    I had a bunch of requests for this one. This savory Italian Easter pie is typically served on Easter morning. The grain pie, Pastiera Napoletana, which is a dessert will be coming to my website in case you're wondering, but I won't be able to make a video for that one in time. Definitely next year. The full print recipe is always linked in the description. As always, thanks so much for watching and liking my videos!

      Another great one Jim. I just recommended your channel to a cab driver who is 1/2 Italian & wanted to learn how to cook more Italian foods. I told him how to make 'soffritto' while we were driving to our destination- LOL.
      I have a favor to ask of you, can you find out if any of the grocers, in Jersey, will ship Pecorino Romano to the West Coast? I can't find it anywhere.

    • @SipandFeast

      @Dee Dee Thanks for recommending the channel. There are a bunch of cheese sellers on Amazon that sell Pecorino. So that is a good option.

    This was a nice surprise :O) We had this on occasion at grandma's for Easter. It was OK, I doubt they made it, probably store bought. I was probably too full from the star attraction, my aunts homemade Manicotti she made with crepes. She made awesome crepes too, tender m-m-m. Soft ricotta filling, nice clean tomato sauce. One was enough, two was plenty, three or four was my belt loosening limit. But I always had room for her ricotta cheese cake, zwieback crumb crust, topped with cherry pie filling. Anyway, back to the Easter Pie. My wife has a friend in New Jersey that sometimes comes to visit. She works in a grocery store and brought an Easter Pie that they sell in the store. Tasted awesome, sort of looked like your filling but not tall or pretty like yours. Thanks for sharing this forgotten treat, lard would make it great, and I looked for basket cheese last night but the case was bare. You and the family have a great Easter!

    Pizza Rustica is my favorite dish for Easter. I'm an RN and worked for an Italian doctor for years and years. His sweet wife made this for the Easter holiday and I was lucky enough to always be invited. Unfortunately I am Irish so we don't make this. Jim can I be an honorary Italian for the holidays and you make this for me? 😜 We always make either lamb or a spiral ham and a potato dish of course.

      Ham or lamb both sound great!

    Your son is probably loving all this food. He looks about the age that I was were was eating my parents out of house and home. They couldn't keep up with my growth and appetite. I remember they made about 6 pounds of spaghetti one night for dinner and I ate 75% of of it. They were shocked and... I was still hungry.

      Thanks for breaking it down! I agree. A much larger food processor would be better. This might become my backup, especially if I am going to start making more videos like this.

    Nice, my family uses sausage, pepperoni & ham for meat. I usually eat so much easter pie that I get sick of it and don't want any for a whole year. My grandmother also made a Spaghetti pie & the grain pie. the spaghetti pie was a real peasant dish, it was like a spaghetti frattata, simple and awesome. BTW you can buy easter pie at uncle guisseppi for about $50 a pound. Until they run out.

    • @SipandFeast
      @SipandFeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol. $50 a pound is probably right. That place makes more money with the precooked food than the whole rest of the store. And I get the not wanting to eat it for a year. I probably ate almost over a pie's worth myself in the last few days.

    This is an Italian favorite for me and my family. Truly a delicacy for us! Our family used to refer to this as Catzall (sp?). Anyway, something we always looked forward to at Easter!! Will truly be looking at all the recipes here! I'm reminded of the scene between the Godfather and Johnny Fontaine whereas the Godfather asks Johnny "do you spend time with your family?" The line should have been "do you cook for your family? Because any man that doesn't cook for his family can never be a real man!

    • @dee_dee_place
      @dee_dee_place 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Father & my Nephew are the best cooks in the family. My Mom never let my Dad in the kitchen because he made a mess. I thought she was crazy because any Man who wants to cook for me has 'free reign' in my kitchen. I don't care if I have to clean the ceiling & the floor (see the scene from "Baby Boom" with Diane Keaton- spaghetti hanging from the ceiling- LOL).

    Interesting an Italian Quiche'. I make a Quiche' almost every week, it's a great way to use up left overs, Nutmeg is a must when baking eggs. This looks AWESOME. I'll add this to my "Must Make List."

    This came out excellent--and it was a beautiful presentation. I did have to cook it about 80 minutes. Next time, I'll use either percorino romano or provolone but not both. Another home run recipe. Thanks!
