“The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.” (Job 27:19-20)
What a Wonderful sermon!! Especially that Dr Ferguson finally explains how GOD THE FATHER LOVES HIS SON. I believe that GOD the FATHER LOVES HIS SON throughout these horrific tortures performed on HIM, THE SINLESS GOD-MAN, by the sinful wickedness of men. JESUS hung on the cross three hours in utter darkness and then HE cried out "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani!" "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me!," I imagine that during these terrible three hours of darkness of being forsaken by HIS FATHER, GOD the FATHER was in TREMENDOUS GRIEF when HE had to completly forsake & separate HIMSELF from HIS ONLY SON. JESUS became a CURSE for us and BORE the iniquities of us, HIS Redeemed. GOD is no longer taking "pleasure in the aroma coming from Israel’s sacrifices. That word for “pleasure” (חָפָצְתִּי) in Isaiah 1:11 is the same Hebrew word Isaiah uses in the first line of Isaiah 53:10, “But the LORD was pleased to crush Him” (חָפֵץ). In other words, GOD is not taking pleasure in the aroma coming from the sacrifice of animals (Isaiah 1). GOD does take pleasure however, in the "aroma coming from the sacrifice of the RIGHTEOUS, SINLESS MESSIAH." It is not 'in the horrific torturous death' itself that GOD takes pleasure, as GOD HATES SIN and abhorres the deeds of the wicked , but GOD takes pleasure in what that horrific death OF HIS BELOVED SON produces. GOD takes pleasure and satisfaction in the fact that the NEED FOR ATONMENT (in exchange for our sinful lives) is being met. An atonement that took place because of the death of the THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. The point is, that GOD took 'not pleasure' in the Messiah 'being rejected, tortured and horrificly dying (which would make HIM a vengeful God)' but rather GOD took pleasure in the PERFECT SACRIFICE finally being provided. Metaphorically, it is as if Isaiah was saying: “THE LORD was pleased to receive HIM(THE LORD JESUS CHRIST) as SACRIFICE .” The New Testament reveals JESUS CHRIST as the FINAL SACRIFICE FOR SIN, the ULTIMATE PROPITIATION: “CHRIST LOVED US AND GAVE HIMSELF UP FOR US AS A FRAGRANT OFFERING AND SACRIFICE TO GOD.” (Ephesians 5:2). JESUS, THE SON OF GOD, was the ONLY ONE who could provide the ETERNALLY PLEASING SACRIFICE FOR GOD. HE ALONE is the ONE of WHOM the FATHER says, “YOU ARE MY SON, WHOM I LOVE; WITH YOU I AM WELL PLEASED."(Mark 1:11). "Psalm 85: You, Lord, showed favor to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation. I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants- but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps."
Does the Son hate sin as much as the Father? Who is the Son punishing? What does the Holy Spirit do in all of this? PSA results in a division of the Trinity and necessitates Christ temporarily losing His Divinity. No early church Father holds to it. The correct approach to atonement is recapitulation/ransom of humanity as taught by the early church Fathers. Read On the Incarnation by Saint Athanasius for a true, Biblical understanding of the atonement.
This is s a wonderful message to hear today, Good Friday. (Sorry if name icon comes up 2x. Some sort of computer glitch we don't know how to fix.) Grateful to have heard this talk.
In the bible God the Father says "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Psalm 2 also speaks of the son. There are other places which speak of the Holy Spirit.
It hurts to hear the sacrifice of Jesus used as a substitutionary atonement, when he died for all that they can repent from sin and have eternal life, not take away the wage of sin.
Another error here is that imputation of righteousness is IMPARTED to us, imputation is the fact of inherent righteousness. Imputation is an accusation not a gift.
Jesus dealt with death not sin, those who profess their faith and death to sin, are atoned for their past. Atonement is not salvation, it is baptism. I have a Ytube video series called 'Myths in so-called Christianity' bringing the NT truth missed by Christianity.
YOUR LIFE IS MEANINGLESS WITHOUT JESUS... AND AFTER THIS LIFE WITHOUT PRAISING AND WORSHIPPING JESUS... HE MUST TORMENT YOU FOREVER AND EVER IN HELL FIRE... BECAUSE WE LIVE ON HIS TERMS, NOT YOUR OWN MEANINGLESS TERMS... SEEING HE CREATED MANKIND IN GENESIS 2 TO WORSHIP HIM !!

This is just a really great message that helps us to see and understand the cross from the Father's and the Son's perspective--(and finally ours)

Hope! Hebrews 11:11, faith is the things hoped for. The things that are not seen.
Incredible.
Can someone send this to Brian McLaren? To all who have taught a shallow gospel that does not give glory to God, but leads people astray.

That last quotation is from CTStudd, right? Wonderful sermon. Splendid.
