fun fact; it is Highly Implied that the Raptors recruit from the Imperial Guard Regiments they fight alongside. in a Caiaphas Cain short story titled "Recon" Cain meats a squad of Raptors after his transport gets shot down, and in a firefight two of the raptors start cussing at the Orks in Valhallin, and Pretorian respectively. Cain also notes that the Sargent sounds Vostroyan even through his helmet vox caster. in other stories and lore it is pointed out that the Raptors do not really talk like normal Space Marines, having a verry military way of speaking, but lacking the formal high gothic style of other Chapters, also the squads tend to act more like normal people when they speak to each other; joking with there squad mates, and just in general sounding more like Guardsmen not traditional Space Marines.

I'd be surprised if they did. There were very few full grown adults who have been made into Space Marines and all of them were during the Great Crusade and at the behest of their Primarchs. Perhaps they were recruited from IG worlds, or they possibly pick up tactics and behaviors from working closely alongside IG? I could see that considering they commonly do command them, perhaps even growing a bond with Squads they are attached to.
If I remember right they would attach a squad or a single Marine to platoons of IG to act as an experienced NCO or Officer to guide and increase the efficiency of those guardsmen. Raptors are pretty rad the more I learn about them and are exactly what I would think an actual Super Soldier Special Forces unit would do irl.
@@Leprechaunlock White Shields aren't a rare practice so that could play a part in the Raptors recruitment pool, but I do agree there is a high chance they pick some stuff from Imperial Guard while learning any useful tactics the regiments might have for the Chapter to incorporate into their own doctrines.

Love the Raptors. They are tied for my favorite chapter. It's hilarious that even Guilliman loves them and wanted them in each of his Crusade fleets for the Indomitus Crusade.
When White Dwarf Issue 494 came out and had new lore for the Raptors, it became the first ever White Dwarf I got

First, I do not know if stating that the Raptors have tactical minds like the Imperial Guard is that much of a compliment as it is a plot point how many generals are really bad at their jobs. There is actually a fun detail about Ursula Creed in that one of the reasons a lot of Cadian generals dislike her is that she actually plans how to defeat the enemy with minimal losses on her own side.
Second, hilariously while Raptors are not fully Codex compliant, they are actually approaching how Guilliman originally intended the Codex be applied.
Admittedly I meant it more in the Creed comparison, and so I could use it to make the point they take command of guard regiments. That part I could have been more specific verbally lol. Also yeah I've mentioned I love the Hammers of Dorn for being the agressive version of codex compliant. But I also love a chapter that found their way to Guillimans intention lol.
I literally just made a Raptor Deathwatch marine for a buddy's 40k rpg. After diving into the lore in the book, I found myself going "how the fuck have I never made marine from this chapter?!" They're just the best, imo.
nice video really good job, i have been building my raptor army on the side for years now and i am noticing more and more attention for this amazing and unique chapter! (even from GW, i have 3 transfer sheets with raptors on it now) and they made a how to paint raptors video on youtube a little while ago
That painting video is where I found out GW has been promoting the Raptors. Also it was one of the better paint tutorials on them imo.

I was a combat medic for light infantry for 8 years and oh boy can I tell you, Profesional Light Infantry can mess your day up in sooooo many ways.

Funnily enough, these are the marines you kick the shit out of during the first part of the PS2 game Fire Warrior. And yet, when it comes time to negotiate peace and then fight alongside them to stop a Chaos incursion, they get replaced with Ultramarines.

Someone tell Bobby G that he’s got a group of nephews that use his book as a guideline, use tactical strategies, are very efficient & are reasonable. On the other hand tell him all Gorillaman all that & there sons of his brother Corax he might not believe you & ask for a DNA test, he’ll probably think that they are some his kids.

@@glueboy that could be what gets Corax to return from the warp. He’s hanging out side of Lorgar’s tower taunting him & gets a summons for a DNA test & possible custody battle. The funny thing is the Raptors wouldn’t care, they’ll continue to do their job in the most efficient way possible
I have seen Raptors taking heat for not being "Astartes enough", I call bull they are his angels just as much as the Black Templars.

It has been stated by ranking guard that Admech Collegia and Spacemarines are outside the chain of command and technically above it if they choose to be. The source I remember is a guard colonel in Helsreach.
