Simply beautiful, Barry. I know I shouldn't be surprised at your abilities, but I still am.

Sorry Thomas, I just noticed a question you posted on another video about sourcing stones. Where in the world are you?

Barry, you’ve already helped me out with that. I am in Hawaii. Mahalo!

Very nice. I wish I was blessed with a source of local slate.

Where are you? I know there is slate on the US East coast...

@@poorfrankraw West Coast in Washington state. We have slate but it's poor quality. I've found limestone but every quarry uses blasting for extraction. I do have tons of good quality sandstone from a local quarry. I've just started trying to carve so it will do for the time being. I just have to cut it and get it flat first.

@@DaEternalNoob I've carved a bit of lettering on sandstone, but I don't really like it, even the finer grained stuff, and most is just too coarse for the fine detail needed for lettering. Fine for sculptural stuff, though it does weather and erode. A tip from a US letter carver I know is to talk to companies who do home renovations and upgrades, they often have offcuts of marble and other interesting stones (avoid granite obvs) which are worth trying for lettering.

Frank, very nice job. I'm afraid my carving skills will be limited to a laser machine! May I ask, where you source the slate blocks? Thank you.
