I've decided to start a new coin roll hunting series to see how many bank boxes it takes to fill an entire Dansco Album for Nickels dated 1938-1999. There are 138 slots to fill and although I already have an entire nickel coin collection, I did not keep track of the number of boxes it took to complete the set, which I completed through coin roll hunting. This is part 1 of the new series and I do plan on updating it from each nickel box I hunt from this point forward until the coin collection is completed! It may be a little tougher due to the coin shortage from the Federal Reserve, but we will give it a go! FYI - The Dansco Album does not have spots for some coins but we'll be hunting these boxes of nickels for Silver Nickels, Buffalo Nickels, Proof coins, Old Jefferson Nickels (namely semi-key and key date nickels), Liberty V Nickels and 2009's for their low mintage. Man that was a light box, I just got my best box to date last week with many old Jeffersons, 9 buffalo's, 7 war nickels, and 2 proofs. Hoping to get another box next week.
Thanks Rob for sharing this video. I am going to inform my nieces and nephew to watch this, so they can get a better understanding of what I went through when I created their penny books. I hope they understand that 12 minutes isn't really how long it takes in time to fill a book, but to learn what work is involved to start filling a book, and keep updating not-so-great coins for the stunner coins.
Great video idea Rob! Terrific spin on our great hobby. We are 80 boxes in and still looking for one of the 38’s, 39’s, and 50’s. Refuse to buy them, we are going to find those bad boys!
Nice hunt. You should use the last spot as a reverse challenge coin. Try to fill it with the oldest coin that you find during the hunt that also has full steps.
I agree. I would love to see this done with other coins, especially Kennedy halves. That would introduce the challenge of getting a few silver coins along with the clad coins, but is still easily obtainable.
A State quarter hunt would also be fun to watch. While it’s not a valuable set, it would be an inspiration for young collectors to see how much of a book they could fill with a box of quarters.
@@mjanovec My local shops carry the Kennedy halves books without dates - I guess intended for NIFCs. It sure would be worthwhile to see an NIFC collection started as well.
@@mjanovec I did both State and National Parks books for my nieces, nephew, and 1st grandson. It took me about 8 boxes to get them nearly 98% filled. With the exception of my grandson, the others are on the lookout to fill the open gaps in their books - and they love it.
I went to a vender market last weekend and bought 2 key date dimes for $2 a piece. I got a fine 1926 S, and a very fine 1931 D. Thank you for all you've taught me so far!

Just finished a great nickel box with 2 silver nickels and 2 proofs and a bunch of oldies and 2009s. The crazy thing is that the 2 silver nickels were in the same roll. And the proof nickels are the first proofs I've ever found.

Please do this with the other denominations too, if it is possible to get the boxes you need (I know times are a bit tough right now for coin roll hunting). I watch a couple of channels only for their book filler videos, so I'm stoked to see you do this and I really hope to see you do every denominations from the penny to the dollar coin or at least the half dollar!! I too am interested in this series because I'm doing the same thing. Except I'm just going through family pocket change. Which anyone can imagine, is the long way around filling any book lol. Too bad kids nowadays cant ride their bicycles and hand deliver newspapers, then collect from their customers for payment. That's how I started saving and collecting my currency. I’ve seen a lot of collectors with the Dansco albums instead of Whitman...is the a difference? And is one better over the other or is it just preference?

Rob, in the empty hole at the end you should put a reverse of a nickel so people can see the reverse
That canadian #2 looked very like a proof. It's ok if you don't want to double check though.

Most of mine are Whitman but I was donated this album so figured on using it!
