I was driving on the highway yesterday and saw a silver C55 coming up from behind me. The car is owned by a guy in my town but I rarely see it. But, man it’s a VERY aggressive looking car in your rear view. With the low, longer front bumper and Bi-Xenon lights it really does look totally unique from the front than your average C230K. It also had the hood ornament versus the in grille star which I think looks better. Anyways, they’re absolutely beautiful cars and are super unique. Made the loaner CLA I’m driving right now feel like a Civic.
I've owned a 2005 C55 since 2014. Zero issues. Truly a gas & go performance AMG that handles far better than the E55 I was considering buying! It's a pleasure to drive!

I get quite a few questions about the C55 AMG. In this video, I try to answer them. I enjoyed owning the C55, with 362hp/376tq it was a pretty quick car. Ultimately, I much prefer the E55 AMG that I have now with 470hp/520tq, it's properly fast.

People need to stop letting others know how good they are! I absolutely love mine, same over little issues, but never been in an accident, no major repairs and always Benz dealer serviced, I just hit 152k miles the other day. Looked aggressively for one for over a year, and have wanted one since I worked at the dealership and saw them new. If anything ever happens with mine, it will get the m113k swap from e55, almost just bolt and go, just have to virginize the ECU. Good video man! My next amg will be a w205 c63s or a amg gt if they drop in price ever

I bought mine as a summer daily, they get good gas mileage as well. Clean title, just had the paint corrected, ceramic coated and hood respray. Comfortable, reliable, efficient and fun. I don't think I will ever sell mine lol

I Have a black one too - black interior with silver finish. Preferred it over the silver ones, as they are very common, and don't accent the curves, when nice and clean, and shiny {doesn't stay that way for long in black though?!} Weekend Princess - love crusin in the sun and hearing that V8 purr - deleted the secondary's and fitted a smaller resonator {don't want any drone}
I have a 100,000km New Zealand new (euro spec: digital climate controls and parking sensors) C55 Touring (Wagon) in silver with black and silver interior. Such an awesome car and incredibly rare in estate form! Besides loving gas and rear tyres ; ) it's super reliable. One thing I would recommend is to get a quaife LSD installed as it transforms the way it puts power down. Would highly recommend to anyone!
@@beyondthelol There is a heap of imports for sale but very rare to find NZ new examples - only a handful came to NZ when new. They are such a steal at around $10k NZD (less than $7k USD)!
That black one is nice but I'd go the silver NZ new one through Turners personally as it's the nicer euro spec. I think it's better buying at $15k too (you'd probably get it for $13k). It's identical spec to mine and as I understand one of only a handful (4 I believe) of NZ new wagons that ever came to NZ. Silver is a much better paint option to maintain too (I must admit black does look better though), see @legitStreetCars video - Alex does a great review on maintenance in awesome detail. I own a 06' CLS55 AMG and heck is it a fun car to drive, and even better was that it had 45,000 miles on it when I bought it for $19.5K , plus, it's been very reliable (maybe because I keep an eye on everything)
Great video. I just got my C55 in March, and haven't looked back. Has it's fair share of issues (being at 100k miles), but it's everything I can fix in my garage. Like you said, it's fairly simple compared to its kompressor bug brothers. I'm considering removing the secondary cats (resonator is already removed), and I already have new downpipes that I'm waiting to install.

Great video! How did you get your valve covers to look so clean? I just did my gaskets and spent ages scrubbing with brake cleaner and a brush but the results didn't look anything like what you showed.

I found an 05 c55 black on black with 84k miles asking $12k. Does it seem like the right price? Watching this video makes me want to go get it. As you said, no air suspension and Kompressor to worry about is a big plus.

Almost bought one today. Paint trashed, incorrect spark plugs, bad plug wires, bad sunroof, and headliner falling. Too much goind on. Loved driving it before it started missing in the rain.
I'm torn between the C55 and E 55. Great video! I would love to see a comparison. The only thing I keep coming back to is for the same price why not get the bigger car? I'd be interested to know handling difference between the two and daily driving differences as far as interior space and MPGs
Chad Foust the c55 will be noticeably better handling.. straight like performance goes to the e55 but not by a lot.. C55’s are also sought after because they don’t have the numerous issues that the supercharged 5.5 has in the E55.. and the tedious & expensive air suspension on the e55. Both are awesome cars though
I too got the low oil warning on my first drive home from a dealer in St Louis. It happens constantly. Eurocharged cincy said its fairly normal in the 55. Secondary cat and resonator delete changed the entire car. I want to a muffler delete but the wifey is not down with that!

when I recently bought my w211 e63, the mileage was meant to be 49.9k miles, I test drove it at 50.2 and then by the time I bought it, it had 50.8k miles on, I wasnt all that pleased! the dealer had it for around 6 months. the first owner had it for 10 years then the next owner got rid of it within 6 months and it was held by the dealer thereafter who clearly drove it a fair bit
Love my car, the only issue i have is that the msg display on the gauge cluster does not fully shut down, causing my battery to drain. Had my Starter and alt checked, they are fine. But other than that...i love my car(black on black)😬😬😬🏎💨
It was sold as a damaged car at auction but as far as I know, it has not been rebuilt. I think it's just being parted out somewhere. The accident was that the other driver crossed the centre line from the other side (being pushed by a 3rd car) but luckily the speeds were not that high so everyone was ok.

@@mikej5541 You are right ..I have deleted it ,,,louder at start up ,,louder when accelerating and a little louder when cruising at highway speeds ,,but at low speeds and at idle I actually think it is quieter than before.
been looking at a CLK 55 cabriolet for the wife.. same motor as this. You just put up with the oil burning? My C63 m156 needs to get topped off between oil changes as well, eurocharged says it's normal for that engine too.
the dragon clk class is not that great quality. I had a 2001 clk430, my 2002 E320 4matic had much better quality. The interior was much more sturdy, the seat bottom cushions are garbage in the clk
The only way to do a newer Mercedes is an AMG. My 2006 C280 interior materials were laughable. Cheap chrome plating on all buttons rubbed off. Steering wheel kept peeling. Vanity mirror door wouldn't close all the way, so the light stayed on everytime I used the sunvisor. Cheap plasic surrounding the gear shifter became loose. The drivers side door pull fell off (common issue according to MB forums). So disappointed in that car, but at least a lesson was learned. There's a Mercedes for just anybody, and then there are the ones that truly give the MB experience. Seperates those "in the know" from those that just feel good about themselves owning a badge.

Isn’t that how it always goes? You get a diamond in the rough, fix it, love it, and then it gets destroyed. I had the exact same things happen to a 2007 CLK550 I had. Absolute treat I got for a steal, I sorted all its issues out for 6 months, and then *4 DAYS* after getting the metal license plates, a 17 year old in a giant truck runs a red and takes the front end off. Took the cash from that shit mess and got an S55 which I’ve recently converted from ABC to a coil suspension. Other than the ABC, the S55 has been an absolute treat.
Adam Gil nice car, but rust problems in those years. Plus supercharger maintenance also. Fast car, can bump up the boost and really scream down the road.

Yes the engine oil needed to refuel. I don’t know maybe continental car need to do those ?? But what I know is Toyota and Japanese car are just more reliable. Too much money needed for maintenance those lol
These cars are super cheap on the used market , because they are super expensive to repair.My older brother owned a 1992 Infiniti Q45 , in 1996. 56K , hey why not , for $9K at the time ,seemed like a bargain. Fast beautiful , great handling , for a 3900LB vehicle , but once problems occur , you might wanna reconsider.

C55 is about the same size as a Honda Civic. 362 hp seems like a lot for such a small car but the C55 can handle it.

AMGmeister C43 is still quicker than both. There was also a GLC43 AMG SUV that did 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds.
Maybe 0-60 but after that, a w211 E55 would be a lot quicker. C43 has benefit off the line from its all-wheel drive. @@jondoe1310

I fitted a smaller resonator and removed the secondary cats - gives it just the right amount of volume, without any drone
Resonator alone won't be much of a change..do res and secondary cats for something noticeable

I just put up with the oil burning on the C55. I've seen worse on other cars.

2023. C55 is still inexpensive for what you are getting. However, prices are starting to rise after bottoming out a few years ago.

Yea this C55 looks ugly, no supercharger. The E55 over this is a no-brainer
E55 is much longer and is 800lbs more. The fancy suspension, blower and heat problems scared me away from the E55.
Cincy_Supercar arnott suspension products are better and a lot cheaper than OEM

Isn’t that how it always goes? You get a diamond in the rough, fix it, love it, and then it gets destroyed. I had the exact same things happen to a 2007 CLK550 I had.
Absolute treat I got for a steal, I sorted all its issues out for 6 months, and then *4 DAYS* after getting the metal license plates, a 17 year old in a giant truck runs a red and takes the front end off.
Took the cash from that shit mess and got an S55 which I’ve recently converted from ABC to a coil suspension. Other than the ABC, the S55 has been an absolute treat.

Adam Gil nice car, but rust problems in those years. Plus supercharger maintenance also. Fast car, can bump up the boost and really scream down the road.
You can mod the piss out of them...if you want to go really fast..and not spend as much as I ddid to get my c55 moving get a c32 or better yet e55

Yes the engine oil needed to refuel. I don’t know maybe continental car need to do those ?? But what I know is Toyota and Japanese car are just more reliable. Too much money needed for maintenance those lol

These cars are super cheap on the used market , because they are super expensive to repair.My older brother owned a 1992 Infiniti Q45 , in 1996. 56K , hey why not , for $9K at the time ,seemed like a bargain. Fast beautiful , great handling , for a 3900LB vehicle , but once problems occur , you might wanna reconsider.

jj martin C55 has conventional brakes, not SBC.
@@AMGmeister well that's good to know. Test drove a CLS 55 AMG and a E55 last week and loved the style and performance but not willing to Shell out the Big bucks when the Air Matic suspension and SBC go kaput. Maybe have to settle for the c class AMG.

@@AMGmeister I grew Up in NY but now live un Spain. Apart from higher selling prices here, I doubt there is any warranty on the brakes.
