  • A man confronts his disabled daughter's caregivers.
THE BEST OF INTENTIONS is used with permission from Emil Jonsson. Learn more at emiltjonsson.com.
Kjell is father to a mentally disabled daughter, who lives at an assisted care facility. He begins to suspect that her attendant Jocke is sexually abusing her. Jocke immediately notices Kjell's hostility and suspicion, which makes their interactions tense and disquieting. Things come to a head in a furious confrontation, leading to chilling consequences that will haunt the characters and viewers.
Director Emil Jonsson has created a chilling horror short, built not on blood, guts and gore but instead the darker impulses of humankind. The tension he generates from the conflict between two men is entirely psychological, crafted from precise camerawork and well-calibrated performances.
Famed Swedish actor Per Ragnar gives a masterful performance as the father, whose dignity and elegance masks a cold, almost condescending anger and menace, while Jonsson matches him beat for beat as the attendant.
Well-paced in its storytelling, the film is akin to classic old-fashioned thrillers by masters like Hitchcock, marrying classically inspired technique with the concerns and anxieties of modern life. By the time THE BEST OF INTENTIONS concludes, viewers won't be able to shake their sense of disquiet -- or easily calm their shaken nerves after the film's nail-biting end.

Honestly, Omeleto should be it's own TV channel. It deserves way more popularity.

The father wasn’t wrong though. Even if he just kissed her, that’s still abuse. She is disabled and he’s in a direct position of authority over her. And we only have his word that he didn’t take it farther and he’s already demonstrated that he is at best very untrustworthy.

He kissed her. She’s disabled and can’t properly consent. That’s taking advantage. That said, he should have waited until he gave her her medicine first

Old Central/Northern European men are spooky, they have such a silent anger about them, especially when they are angry, and the mostly soft but stern tone of voice they always keep makes it even spookier

Not knowing how to draw and just learning to write her name doesn't necessarily means she has a mental problem, it could be that she just lack the motor skill. Which would explain how she knew to write his name too. I think the ending was ambiguous enough about this.

The man has a daughter Elsa, with special needs. She lives in a special needs home with other girls/young women like her. There they receive round the day care from nurses/helpers. Like an old persons home. Usually because they require medicine and special care that working parents dont have time/money to provide. The nurse Jocke, fell for Elsa and apparently kissed her, but denies anything else... But we dont know how severe her disability is, so the relationship is ostensibly inappropriate. The father see's the relationship as sexual abuse and poisons him. Sadly the dad poisons him (the only worker there who knows where the medicine is) before Elsa gets her necessary nightly injection of medicine. So she may be in pain or even dying, idk.

Often times pride in their art is precisely why they don't.

No need to dub films in my eyes. Keeps the authenticity and subtitles don’t bother me one bit.
Take Das Boot for example, the English dub is done by the original actors (they were bilingual) but it’s not that good in my opinion. The German language version is the far superior version.
