  • It's time to freshen up the New Holland 514 manure spreader! In this video, I remove the wood deck, repair a badly rusted axle and other frame parts, and give the spreader a new coat of paint.

Great video. Done the same thing on a mid to late 50's Minnesota manure spreader. I believe they were originally built or manufactured at the State Penitentiary at Stillwater Minnesota. Not sure if they still have a short line of machinery or not. I remember seeing wagons, running gears, manure spreaders, sickle bar Mowers, side rakes etc.

And this ladies and gentleman is why I love watching Pete's channel so much! So many folks are quick to scrap stuff and dash out to over spend and buy new or over spend on really bad used and abused stuff. Not Pete! This man grabs some tools, puts on his boots err uh sneakers in this video, and gets to it! This old spreader will be slinging the bull for a good while to come still and not be a new Prius or F150 or this years refrigerator model.
My grandson is only 2 working on 3 and 99% certain he does not know what he is watching (he smiles HUGE and giggles when Pete calls the cows and gets the going) but I make 100% certain when he is at my house we watch Just a few Acres Farm videos. Why? Maybe one day he will understand and learn some good old fashioned values and skills that Pete and his family share with us. I can only hope!
Take care all, be safe out there and have a fantastic day! And thanks Pete and Ms. Hill for sharing your day with us!

Hey Pete…I absolutely love all of your videos but the kind like this, with you rebuilding equipment and the videos with Hillary, and the kids working with your animals are amongst my favorites. I’ve been watching your videos since you started making them and I can tell you are great in editing. I also love looking at the beautiful countryside when you fly the drone. I live in South central Florida where everything is flat so I love seeing the hills and especially the snow like what was in this video. You are one of my favorite sites so much that I can’t wait to watch them after I get off work. I love hearing you say…”Come on Cows”. Keep up the great job you’re doing making these videos!

I could watch you working on stuff for hours. Helps me relive the days of my youth out in the garage with my Dad as his helper while he worked on our cars, motorcycles or snow mobiles. My Father had the same demeanor and always talked to the machines, nuts and bolts in similar fashion Pete. Oh yeah and my Dad’s name was also Pete. Anyways, thank you.

I totally agree, deborah. Pete need not worry about his videos one bit. I find myself watching them and I get a good feeling...even though I was not that talented repairing things, somehow the way, the demeanour Pete and Hillarie share on their videos calms me. Thank you both for truly informative and entertaining stuff. I love the Canadian slur you subtly do when you give the temperature in Celsius...so funny! At least I think, being a Canadian, that is what you are doing...I suppose it applies to all those other countries in Europe, etc.

I tend to be impatient when things don't go well at all, and now I find myself asking myself, "what would Pete say here?", or, "how would Pete deal with this irritation?". Thanks for taking the time to video so much of what you do. There is no way I'd be able to video myself taking care of a household chore - there would be so many bleepers LOL.

I hope not!. then consoled myself and said "Be patient! he's just taking a break, or involved in something else taking up his time. and I was right and relieved when this one came along. Loved every minute of it. and this time I won't be so impatient waiting for "part 2". WE got probably the same snow storm that you did. most of what you get we get later in the day here in Western MA. we wound up with 2.5 inches on the ground the next morning. and Of course I had Dr. appt. to drive to. ! we all have our woes. thanks again Pete for being there and glad you got the approveal from inspector Hillary. Reminds me a bit of the 54 F 150 me & my dad fixed up for him. Pulled it out of a farmers field, he was using it to feed ear corn out of, sunk in a mud hole up to the running boards.
We fought rust for close to two years. Cab & bed off. Frame up rebuild.
The drive train was still in good shape.
The running boards he fixed the holes using bras rod and a smal torch. Took forever but replacements weren’t readily available back in 1968.
    Thanks for sharing.

It was SO GOOD to see you posting again, Pete!!! Was worried and hoping you were o.k.!!! My late farmer father would be SO PROUD of you in how you "Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or, Do without" in how you're restoring that manure spreader!!! I watch every video, my friend, from beginning to end!!! Blessings to you and yours!!! > ;o)

I have been a fabricator for 40 years. Like you just a pair of safety glasses and go to town. 5 months ago I put 8 stitches in my chin were a 2 inch abrasive wheel blew up any lower it would have hit my throat. Do your family a favor and start wearing a face shield. I have one now

Pete, I remember back in 1962, my junior year in college my dad bought a rusted out Renault Dauphin. We spent the summer re-welding it back together. The car weighed 200 lbs more than new. Nice job you are doing👍

That must have been some job. I can imagine... repairing rusted cars helps one develop a sense of what can stay and what needs to be replaced. I helped a friend rebuild a similarly rusted MGB once... quite the task!

My Dad would have loved to help refurbish your manure spreader. He loved projects like that.
He got his 70 year pin from the sheetmetal union. So he was great at working with sheet type metal.
His passion was welding. He LOVED welding. Any excuse to drag out his welders and he was there.
    Take care Pete
