Just ordered mine on Thursday! Would love to see more videos of yours with this kit. It gets me stoked because no one uses that finish! Can’t wait to get mine!
Michael Russo Awesome news buddy!!! I’ll definitely post a video this week. I played 5 gigs in a row from Wednesday through the weekend . So a needed break for a day or two lol . Congratulations on the kit and post away buddy .
Hi Christian!! I'm considering this drum set as an upgrade/alternative from my Gretsch Catalina Maple 7 piece (22 kick) and Yamaha Stage Custom 5 piece (20 kick). I'm heavily considering the 10 12 14 16 22 Session Studio Select (the other options I'm considering are a Yamaha Tour Custom or Gretsch Renown RN2), and I'm drawn to the birch/mahogany shells and the configurations/finishes currently available, as opposed to the other kits which are maple. My questions for you are: 1. As an owner of this kit, why would you recommend this kit over a different similarly priced kit such as the ones I mentioned above, and 2. Why do you go with the 20 instead the 22, and should I go for the 20 instead of the 22? (I'm leaning more towards the 22 because this will likely be a "rock" kit but I know I can get a good sound for a 20" birch kick drum for any style because of my Yamaha).
Hi Jake! The above mentioned kits are all great ( I'm not really a Yamaha guy ) but the Gretsch kits are always very punchy. But if you're looking for that warmth and rock sound this is the kit 100% Pearl gives its drummers so much value in their product that you truly cant go wrong. Why the Pearl Session studio? For one value they really have that market and every other company tries and follows and copies. The mahogany and birch are a great combination and the warmth of the mahogany and the attack of the birch compliment each other perfectly. Why a 20? I chose a 20 on this kit bc at first I purchased it for small gigs weddings or small concert series. But in the end with right head ( Remo clear CS dot ) and while using a Audix D6 microphone I found this to be a great sounding kick. I get many compliments on the volume and control. All my kicks are either 20x14 OR 22x14 my go to sizes. Yes a 22 will give you that little extra but the 20 on the kit is perfect for any application of music. As far as you what you should purchase? If you're worried about volume just know Phil Collins used a open 20 on his Gretsch kits live it worked for him..lol My recommendation is the 20 hands down you will be surprised and the attack and the volume. If you really want a good listen check out my drum cover by the POLICE "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" the audio will give you a great example of how that kit sounds. I hope this helps and please keep me posted on your purchase. Thank you so much!
@@christiancea6 I like the Halo Glitter as well....saw Kenny Dixon from Kane Brown using that kit at Summerfest in Milwaukee....looked AMAZING under the lights!!
Joe Nasiatka Pearl makes some of the best finishes. To be honest other manufacturers can’t keep up with their work. Plus all their finishes are all the same through all their drum lines.
Hi Christian, love your playing! I have a few questions about the Session Studio Select. I've heard some complaints about a lack of mid/low range tones when these are fresh out of the box. Did you get a nice full tone after replacing the heads? Also, I'm wondering how these drums do with clear batter heads (like an Evans G2). I have had issues with kits in this price range when using clear batter heads. Thanks!
Sheldon Kreger First off let me say thank you very much for your kind words. I will tell you the first thing I did was change out the batter and reso heads bc it makes a huge difference. When I first got the kit I used ambassador costed top and bottom and love it. Recently switched to CS dot and clear ambassador’s on the bottom. I think putting on a G2 you will be pleasantly surprised. These drums sing and I have played almost 100 shows with them since February and I get nothing but compliments. I do my best to always tune to the room plus I tune the drums together bc they resonate with each other. So I have zero complaints!!!! Happy drumming :)
PowersOnDrums Gotcha!! Sucks Pearl does this. Sometimes it’s all who you know. If you deal with a drum center it’s possible that they can do a solid and get that color. I have asked in the past and they (Pearl) delivered.
Do the wrap ends at the very top and bottom of the shell? I have a nicotine white marine pearl pearl session studio select kit and i noticed that the wrap ends like a cm or so, before the very top and bottom of the shell?
That nicotine white is an AWESOME finish btw....My particular kit is a lacquer finish and the lacquer does give space before the bearing edge as do all wraps shells do as well. Hope that helps? Best of luck on that kit.
You're correct, the Session Studio Select series uses 6-ply 5.4mm birch/African Mahogany shell... excellent video! Thanks for playing Pearl Drums!

Drums look great! I have the Gloss Barnwood Brown finish.....
Joe Nasiatka Thank you!! The barnwood finish is beautiful. That lacquer is awesome

How would you compare the Session select to the MCT?
The sessions have warm tone to
Them from the mahogany. MCTs are the bread and butter and are amazing as well. You can’t go wrong with either one.

@@christiancea6 Thank you for the detailed response. I will let you know if I go for it!
Sheldon Kreger Sounds good!! 👍🏼👍🏼
I tried ordering a kit in this color a month ago and was told this color was no longer available. So, I terminated my new kit syndrome.
PowersOnDrums Don’t know why Pearl does this myself. SMH
The only way you could get that color is if you order a Masterworks. I don't know your budget but Gretsch has some awesome colors off their USA line.
@@christiancea6 No way can I spend that kind of money on a drum kit. I used to play semi-pro... but now I' m a trucker. It's just a hobby anymore.
