I've been watching Football since 1982 and I must admit that this set of Super Eagles are arguably the best. It was a generational team.
I cannot forget what I heard about the comments of the great Pele of Brazil. He was asked about the teams he predicted would likely win that AFCON 1994. I learnt that he said that "only Nigeria can beat Nigeria". He said that Nigeria had the best team.
Honestly that team was "loaded to the teeth"! Okocha was not even a regular in that squad despite being a then young talented player. Nigeria had the best striker in Africa then in the person of the "Gangling Rashidi Yekini" of blessed memory.🙂

I remember watching this match in 94 I was in primary school then,I actually remember that Yekini Lob over the keeper and subsequent goal thereafter, they used that goal for adverts for USA 94 Game, then his game against Zaire where their goalkeeper collected red card on Yekini and Yekini finally scoring the resultant penalty, pls Bring us Afron 2002 Highlights, then our qualifying games to USA 94,France 98, and 2002 world cup qualifiers involving Liberia with George Weah, then our games against Sierra Leone, Ghana,Sudan in 2002 world cup qualifiers, then Mali 2002 afcon matches, thanks u are doing a great job here

Nigeria then had many goal minded midfielders - Amokachi, Siasia, Adepoju, and even the wingers Findidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke. All scoring goals.

Was in secondary school when I watched this game. What a great strike from Yeking... Top quality strikes. Hard to believe Rashid missed those opportunities he'd aside the goals scored. Solid team. Siasia needed to play more for the team rather than seeking personal glory

I had just graduated and was waiting for the NYSC call up. I really enjoyed watching this game in '94. I love your commentary, please show more of these to the world. It would also be nice if you do more highlights on ALL the players of that era and thier career clubs then, for the younger generation to better appreciate. Nice content!

Osimhem seems to have copied yekini so well..... This 94 team was class in every department

Yekini was a very instinctual striker!

Osimhen is better. Emenike could’ve been better

I totally agree, my brother! Sadly, we didn't have a culture of maintaining them after their careers. It hurts me to know how Yekini and other greats passed on; some of them with ailments that could have been easily cured if there was proper health care.

@@ola...o1009 Osimhen has the potential to be greater and may have some better attributes, but Yekini won the AFCON and performed for Nigeria at the World Cup. I hope Osimhen will do the same in the near future.
