My opinion is that the Fever will not protect her in the expansion draft and/or use her as trade bait. She's a good player but she needs the right fit and the Fever isn't it. Her game isn't run and gun.
Nalyssa Smith is a really good person, a genuine sweetheart, and a player who is still young and has a lot of room for growth, but the fact is that her partner makes things far more complicated and stressful than necessary for Nalyssa.

@@TyGrue-p2n I don't despise any particular athlete, but the reality is that DiJonai Carrington has an obsession with NaLyssa Smith, to the point that Smith has lost her concentration and is invisible on the basketball floor when the Indiana Fever face the Connecticut Sun. In addition, DiJonai Carrington is very close to Lexie Hull since they were teammates at Stanford, and she has tight links to certain Indiana coaching staff members. In conclusion, DiJonai may feel jealousy since she is not around those who are closest to her. LOL
She spent very little time in the game and even so , her girlfriend scored a foul ,and got three shots during those few moments hmmm..
I don't think she would try to throw a game. Some of my fav plays of the year were her finishes. She is a good player, I think she has struggled a bit with Fever's style of play & felt demoralized by coach & her confidence is shot
Smith is a coach killer. Has great ability and shows flashes of promise followed by inconsistent spotty play. I think Indiana would like to keep her in a reduced role but she is clearly unhappy. Smith would probably better off on a half court oriented team. The fever are going to clean house and I expect half that roster will turn over.
They been together that has nothing to do with how Fever lost! She is a grown woman and the nitpicking and horrid remarks she hears and reads constantly! Those losses came from those that played!

NaLyssa Smith was tired of the mess and drama surrounding Caitlin Clark. She was also sick and tired of the online stuff with Caitlin's racist fans. She didn't sabotage the Fever at all. She came into this season thinking she would be included more in the offense, and would get more touches on the ball, and play her game but that was not the case in many games. She was not the #2 or even 3rd option when it came to the offense being run through her.
If she had been happy with her playing time, she would have put up with the mess, as you call it.
She knows and feels their energy!

Smith regressed due to inconsistency and style of play change. The coach should be the one deciding the scheme used. Also, yes, she did have her best shooting %. She went from 47.7% to 48%, a miniscule amount as most people round up. She also went down in free throw percentage from 67% to 56%. Smith had the same number of rebounds as last year while averaging less minutes. So much for not getting rebounds. Boston scored 18 pts less than last year and 20 more rebounds and almost 40 more assists. Seems like an improvement for her.

Nalyssa Smith just doesn't work well in a Caitlin Clark run offense. Smith requires the ball going 1v1 to score. Not this run and gun..pick and roll offense.
Smith is a lazy ball player. She consistently gets out hustled. That’s why Coach Sides brings in Temi Fagbenle. Smiths free throws are atrocious. She throws the ball at the basket with no touch.

Nalyssa Smith regressed because Mitchel and CC were taking most of the Shot Attempts. Even Boston numbers are slightly down in Total PTS and her Shooting percentages are down compared to her Rookie year. Players that are going for new Contracts, aka the new CBA and Media deal Money, certainly want their Scoring Averages to go up since that's the Glitter. But guess what, NaLyssa Smith is having her BEST year in Field Goal Percentage. But she has gone down from 15 pts per game to around 10 pts. That's because Mitchell and CC are Jacking up all the shots and hence getting all the SHINE. They told her to leave more Rebounds for CC so CC could pad her STATS. LOL.
Have you paid attention this season. Smith is a good player but run and gun doesn't fit her style. She's better in a slow down grind kind of offense and her defense isn't necessarily the greatest (as with much of the Fever). The Fever are dangerous when they play a high paced game and that take for her leaving the rebound for CC, that's asinine. Any time teammates who both can grab a board come close to it, you often see bigs in the league leave it for the point guard, ESPECIALLY when it comes to moving in transition.

Clark leads the league in assists and most of these players barely average 2 assists so why not tell them to stop “statpadding” and allow their teammates more shots?
Yeah. Because whatever they did before this season worked right? That is why they are on the lottery team this year and were able to get Caitlin and managed to get to the playoffs this year when they changed their identity on offense. They're pro and should know how to adjust for the betterment of the team. She gotta go. Also that's a blatant conflict of interest.

I am a CC fan and a Fever fan. But guess what, I am also a big Nalyssa fan. I mean who wouldn't be! Ms. Smith is the epitome of the sweet gentle giant. I am scared that the two sweetest players on the Fever will not be back. Those two are Nalyssa Smith and Erica Wheeler. If I lose them both on MY team it will break my heart. I will accept what ever players wind up on the fever and I will be a fan of them, but I will follow Nalyssa and Erica to what teams they wind up on if it is not the Fever. This is the way that "Caitlin's fans" will become Wnba fans. I've seen a lot of vitriol about us "new" fans. but DAAAAAmn give us some time to learn about and fall in love with the "other" players that you old fans already know about.
