    FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
    I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

    When strapping a GoPro to a P-51 there is almost a century difference in technologies. That's awesome.

    • @travisparkinson3075
      @travisparkinson3075 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      ITs actually 60 years difference. Not quite comfortable with calling that "almost a century difference in technologies". But you can do that if you must.

      are american years also measured in some retarded unit or do you suck at math?
      First P51 mustang built: 1942
      First GoPro built: 2004
      difference: 2004-1942 = 62. thats what you call a century?
      Do you americans know what century means?
      Century means 100 years, comes from the latin word "centum"
      38 years off is an "almost" to you? it's actually far closer to half a century (50 years) than to a full century.

    • @wholelottamiata6976
      @wholelottamiata6976 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Travis Parkinson something to consider is the current model GoPro is not the same technology as the 2002 GoPro. The hero 7 has advanced camera stabilization technology, better audio, better resolution, better battery, slow motion, better memory, etc. in 2002 the current GoPro wasn’t able to be built. Really if you want to say the 2002 GoPro is the same technology as a hero 7 than that would be like saying the wright flyer is the same technology as a p51. Yea they’re both planes but new designs and materials have been used to improve upon previous models of airplanes. Either way it’s cool to see modern technology on an early 1900’s aircraft

    I grew up at the Reno Air Races. Every year from age 12 to 23, in the 80's and 90's. I got to be right in the thick of it in the pits, because my step dad had a plane and hanger at Stead. It was an amazing time in my life, and it will always be in my blood. I haven't been in over a decade, but miss it and my favorite plane and pilot, Lefty Gardner in Race 13, that beautiful P-38 "White" lightning.

    Thank you so much! I started going to the races in 84 but I left Reno in 2000. I miss it so much! I love hearing them fly over in the background. That's why they sell CD's of just the sound at the booths. There's really nothing like it and I'm thrilled to see the interest from the pilots. I hope the cash prizes makes it worth coming because I know people from all over the world love watching them race.

    Awesome coverage FlightChops! Arrived here via the comment on sound recording link you posted on Trent's latest vlog - Sep 2021... Been addicted to backcountry shenanigans a while too long I guess.
    Great to catch up with where and what old NZ AF buddies have been up to via TH-cam - even if it was two years ago! Way to go JEM Aviation at Omaka, NZ - run by the ever talented Jay 'McTank'n'Tyre' E. McIntyre 4:02 - boy's done well :)

    Great video! I miss the Reno Air Races. I flew the CH-47 Chinook demo several times back in the early 2000s and used to work with Pete Law on several of the ADI systems for these race planes. Got to take a ride with Ike Enns in The Miracle Maker once. Unbelievable.

    Such a fun event, even the crowd in the boxes. Gas powered margarita machines, kiddy pool dive contests. That race weekend is nothing short of a great time

    I love how much sportsmanship there is here. I guess you can't really afford to try dirty manoeuvres and it can easily result in a fatality

    These guys have years and years of experience, These birds were built for 19 and 20 year-olds with about 15 hours of trainer experience under their belts to go out and dog fight for their lives. Amazing how many lived to come home.

      +BrownH2ORat No, AAF pilot cadets typically finished primary and advanced flight training with around 200-300 hours before transition training to fighters or multi-engine.
