Despite the low quality, I am thrilled to see an actual TV appearance of Val in her hitmaking prime. I've never come across any footage of her solo stuff in my 20 years of collecting. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.! This was taped from the 1986 Rhythm&Blues Awards that aired back then. I have many other performances that I taped from that broadcast. Yes I would love to see her work re-issued so the younger audience can hear good music again. Thanks for commenting:)
Awws thank you I had it for so long and I always loved Val Young and there are hardly no performances of her from the 80's. I thought this would be a real treat.
WOW.... this is an absolute rarity. She is a stunner. I have all both her albums and all her maxis....an absolute collectorable item for any music fan....if you don't know Val then you know nothing..LOL.. thanks for the video...its FANTABULOUS. her albums, songs and words have real meaning. She needs to produced another classic album and show the new generations what music is all about!!!
One of MANY great mysteries of American pop music - how this PERFECT pop/r&b gem didn't perform BETTER than it did, and why Ms. Young didn't go on to have the career her TALENT obviously deserved. Chalk it up to poor MARKETING (I mean, not even a VIDEO, back in '86? WTF?!), and ultimately, bad LUCK. :(
I loved this song and it is so haunting and lingers with you after it's over. Thanks for the video and i recall the beautiful Val Young on "Showtime At the Apollo" when it aired late at night on Fox five, Saturdays. You have great video similar to that show.
You could go to a video transfer service if this was taped on vhs. They can transfer any video cassettes to dvd format or digital so you can convert it to any of these MPEG-4 Part 14, QuickTime File Format Wmv Flash Video Advanced Systems Format Or MPEG-4 Sounds complicated but let the experts handle it. They would be able to to show you or if not do it for you and maybe upload it to TH-cam.com
Seems she got caught up in Rick's politics with Motown ... Her first album was really good. That's a solid black dance album. It really should have done better.
This has to be what happened. I just watched the Rick James documentary and it explained how he pissed off the wrong people and started to get railroaded. Her Seduction album was solid!
I really loved this song, and "Seduction"! Bought them both in my early 20's on vinyl in their "12" extended club versions", still at 45 I love this song, especially. I agree that this song and Val's voice has a haunting quality to them, and that she should have been more successful! Did they do an "Unsung" episode on her yet? I would love to see, hear and know more about Val, the way that "Unsung' does it! It's a great show, IMO!!
WOW look how great she looks and sounds! Does anyone know what show this was from? Her Seduction LP really needs to be remastered and reissued in expanded form with remixes, instrumentals, radio edits, etc. LONG OVERDUE!

I had a television performance clip of Val from Philadelphia TV dance show "Dancin' On the Air" but it has gotten lost in all these years.
OH God...I remember Dancin' On the Air...if you're from the Delaware Valley, how could you not?!!

Thank you so much. Val reminds me of Mikki Howard...they can look alike sometimes.
Oh, BTW, I forgot to say thank you for posting this great piece of music history! There seems to be very little music and/or more about Val on YT?
