    Hi! It's come to my attention that there is actually distributor for the Rosemary and Co brushes in the US (and they're super friendly!): www.windriverarts.com/ :)

    • @QQasaurus
      @QQasaurus ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep! This is who I buy my brushes from. They're a bit old school as you can't order online and you have to order the phone (including payment). But I've bought multiple R&C brushes from them and its always been great.

      @@QQasaurus Just pulled the trigger on these myself, this morning! I've had the tab open for a while now. I've been using W&N Series 7 since I started painting but I love the longer tips on these when I watch Sorastro paint so I'm really looking forward to trying them out. I got a size 1 and 2.

    • @Luigiwarrior

      I began my miniature painting journey in 2020 (Jan), Sorastaro's painting was my first source of anyone painting. I have taken the lessons described, put them to use and now do commission work for some people. I paint purely for pleasure even if I'm making money for doing it. Thanks Sorastaro, you have been a wonderful teacher for this hobby. One day we will meet at AdeptIcon or at a Golden Demon event.

    There are about a million videos of "10 things you need to know" or "10 things i wish i knew" when started painting.
    And then there is this video... no click bait title just useful information for people how to start or start again or even struggle with painting.

    As far as the ending bit about taking pictures of your minis goes, I've learned that flash photography (using my phone) is great for telling you your mini doesn't look as good as you initially thought.
    Though while it can be a bit disappointing, I've learned to use the imperfections I get to see with flash to go back and clean up the model.

    Most of us Hobby painters are just this. We are not living from. Even we wish we would be good as the popular ones.
    But here we have to stop thinking about this. This vid you should stick very on top of your YT gallery cause its important for everyone not just starters to remain the fun behind and to though about why we painting. Surely most wanna have a finished Army or something and this is also fine. From my point of view. Its an hobby to slow down from workaday.

    This channel is a huge inspiration for many, but in any case for me. Thank you very much so far for sharing your work. Even if you look at the older videos and realize that Sorastro's has also made qualitative developments (I shy away from writing "improvements", because even the works of the first hour are simply awesome), this is incredibly motivating when you realize that you yourself might paint in a similar quality range as the artist here a few years ago. Because it gives you perspective that it's worth looking further. Thank you for an incredible amount of tips, of entertainment, and of motivation. I look forward to each new video that comes out here and always enjoy looking back at the older works as well. And I also want to mention that I really appreciate the background music.

    Great advice! One of my biggest struggles is trying to perfect EVERY. SINGLE. MINIATURE. It takes a lot of my time and I don't get nearly as much painting finished as I should considering how much time I paint. But I can't seem to break myself of the habit.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha, thanks! Sounds like you have the curse of the perfectionist! It can be a tough thing to break.. Maybe just try doing a speed paint of a bunch of goblins or zombies or something for a game you want to get to the table.. 🙂

    • @dekai7992
      @dekai7992 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One thing you can do to deal with that is identify the most important part/area of a mini (usually the skin or armour, and the bare face, and sometimes a signature weapon). Paint these to your desired high standard. Use a more basic approach for everything else (i.e. Contrast/Speedpaint + Highlights), like straps, boots, etc. That way, you focus your time and effort on those parts that gave the most impact on the viewer and less on parts people know are there, but don't focus on. I highly recommend Ninjon's most recent video on the topic.

    Thank you for all your videos, you've helped me as a beginner with accepting that its okay to mess up, and that its often times easy to fix . The comment about looking at the plain plastic mini before and after is great and shows that any paint is a significant improvement. It's comments like that have helped my confidence as a painter and make it easier to pick up the brush rather than being scared to "mess up".

    Awesome video. Love what you touched in the closing thoughts segment. I too, suffer from putting myself down in almost everything, and being relatively new to this, my first project was Cthulhu Death May Die, and I thought I did barely okay, but when people saw my work they were not only ecstatic but praised it. Now when I look at the unpainted figures on the back of the box(component list) I'm happy that I took the plunge.

    Huge fan sorastro. I watch all your videos regardless of genre. You are the " high standard" to me. You do such a great job, philosophically as well as demonstrably....and jeez...guns mate.

      @Sorastro's Painting philosophy of "take it to a certain level". We all beat ourselves up. But it doesn't matter. Really, it's what you like yourself that matters. Your "recipe " for star wars armour is great. You've really inspired me not to be frightened of mixing colour. But also, it really helps to be able to go back and check. Sometimes I have to pause. These videos are a security blanket so i can revert to a standard paintjob. I hope others feel the same. And you do the music! Please don't burn out. You're appreciated, but do it cos you like it rather than obligated.

      Thank you Leslie! Oh, I do it because I love it (and it happens to pay the bills!). I've become quite good at balancing my work/life too, and always put quality over quantity when it comes to whatever I'm creating.. 😁

      Thank you! I think it helps that I make no effort to pander to the YT algorithms (I'm in many ways quite a poor "TH-camr"!). I produce exactly the kind of videos that I love to produce, and at a pace that is comfortable for me. (And I still make time for gaming, family, exercise etc!) 😁

    Almost everything I have learned about painting minis is from your videos! I started with imperial assault, which those videos are good for beginners. I feel like I got good at painting minis with the Journeys in Middle Earth videos, and now I just paint without following any tutorials, but I still watch all your videos because they really are the best filming quality that I have seen for painting, and they are just quite relaxing and fun!

    Great little tip adding the flow improver to the water mate. I've been using scale75 for about two years now both ranges scale colour and fantasy and find they've made me in to a better painter I think they force you to improve your skill hence like you say the definite learning curve to these paints I love em.great vid dude.

    I started watching you when you painted Captain America. The shield is OMG shiny. That being said, everything I have watched since then I also really like. I haven't painted in over 25 years, I shake real bad and eyes are just not what they used to be. I guess I will just live thru all the painters I watch online. Too bad You Tube wasn't around in the 80's and 90's.
