The JL, JX, and JA are the samurai specific model options. early samurais were either JA (base) or JX (sporty) the later samurais were JL or JX.
There is also the 1987 Special Edition which is a JX with other custom stuff. That's what mine is.
Keep this one away from a Puerto Rican trying to rotary swap it 😂
Yes siiirrr or with a Toyota twin cam engine hahaha
hahaha, you made rofl way too late at night !
Adorable little thing, feels like a brother to a Miata
Same headlights lmfao
The off-road Miata
This Suzuki was really neat, but the smell of the interior after baking in the sun was unholy 😭

Suzuki sued for $60 million in damages and unspecified punitive damages for what Suzuki claimed was willfully fraudulent testing. Made the car seem dangerous yet to make american not choose them over other manufactures.
The Maruti Suzukis in India still smell the same 🤢
I Love those. Saw a dude float one across a river not touching the bottom at all, his wife was climbing out the side hallway and he was just riding it out. These things are beasts if you treat em right
These are worth a small fortune now. I had a few of them in the early’90’s. They rode absolutely terrible, but improved immensely with the addition of a lift, 33” tires and Rancho RS 5000 shocks. It was awesome off-road, but not quite as good as any of my Jeep wranglers. They’re a lot smaller than a Wrangler, so they can go places where the Jeep can’t .
One of the few times i read a truck ride better after a lift and larger tires
@@RafaelLopeztattoos trust me, in stock form, these are one of the harshest riding vehicles I’ve ever owned/driven.
I owned an SJ410 in the UK and it was a great little car, so reliable and it did everything I asked of it. Easy to fix (not that it needed that much) and cheap to run, it really was a fun little car.
It’s a cool car
My friend is obsessed with those, his dad calls them metal death traps, but I think that just adds to his excitement lol.
I live in Michigan and my grandpa bought one of these in the late 80s/early 90s and actually drove it to work and back through town for a while. It ended up getting parked under a tree and sat there for around 30 years. Back in December 2020, my dad and I pulled it out and revived it. We now use it to drive around in the woods in the summer. It’s probably the sketchiest thing I’ve ever driven on the road but it’s really fun to just play around with
the reason the states didnt get the jimny or samurai is because of the whole fiasco about samurais tipping over easily. it tipped over as easily as any other SUV of that time, but the media was biased. as a result, it tarnished the samurai/jimny name and suzuki as a whole resulting in suzuki pulling out of the american market
I own a stock samurai and i disagree I love it but that thing is sketchy the springs are way too stiff
You ever been offroading in the mid 2000s? Samurais used to be everywhere, they've all been rolled lol
Was just about to say that. They were featured in many movies in the 80’s and early 90’s.
In India it is a legend. It's a military vehicle here which was mass produced for army only till 2019. They are really dirt cheap. Because they run on petrol you can take it high altitudes easily. They are quite reliable because of their small engine. That's a gem right there you got sir ! 😂❤
In Ontario that thing is about $11k CND. OR $299 usd
Here in Arizona, they go for about 7 grand and on up in this kind of shape.
@@garrykennedy5484 Yep. I’m from AZ as well, and I can confirm that. In most cases they sell for more money than a YJ Wrangler (Square headlight version, or “Wrongler”). They are awesome off road vehicles, but they don’t quite rise to the level of “better” than a Wrangler.
Also Az, they are very capable lil cars! Kid down the street has one, lift, 31s, and a little motor work. Went wheeling with him once, took my 85 Subaru brat, don’t know if you’re familiar, but we went the back way to Saguaro lake, neither one had any problems.
@@rvtech101 You mean to the party beach way back in the narrow part of it?
@@garrykennedy5484 yea, “ the cove”.
Samurai was my first car in 1986.
I loved it and I'm telling you it really was bullet proof. Was BS about them flipping easy. Great little jeep
Likely stolen. Most people who keep their cars like this don't junk them unless something expensive breaks the car or they crash.
there is nothing expensive in a jimny/samurai😂 its one of the cheapest of the cheap off roaders you can own - and you can also share parts with some other suzuki cars
i had to spend alot on mine
@@apolloxlix679
My dad had one, wish I had one again went to the moon and back 10 times x
I love my samurais, trackers, sidekicks, and toyota 22r’s😎🤘
It's quite sad watching my grandpa sold this Suzuki (different model) to exchange money during the money crisis.
I briefly owned one of these back in the Late 1980's..I put a three inch lift & big tires ..I kept it for a year & sold it
for a profitable amount
Basicly a Jap ( CJ 5 ) jeep .
I had one and it was great in the snow .
You dont have it so Jeep can keep selling you the Wrangler, even if its quality is lower every year, they did the same for toyota and Honda, trying to made them leave the US so the domestic market was not overthrone, at least thats what a friend told me.
Is just funny that the wrangler was not ban for rolling over, since both are pretty much the same car
Like the chicken tax
My very first car was a 97 Suzuki sidekick that I bought for a 100$ off a hoarder who lived down the street. Put a 1.5k to get it running lasted me 2 years.
I loved every adventure with that car. Took it down ATV trails on the mountain I lived, no issues in snow.
I want it again. Or some old Suzuki for my project car samurai. A convertible sidekick. Something
I've got one. They're so simple you could have that wiring fixed in a day. And parts are very available.
Nice car
We didn't get a ton of trims of Japanese cars because of smear campaigns about safety, and to protect the US manufacturers. A full lineup of Toyota vehicles would kill the market out here.
And that journalist company that ran the experiment completely skewed the test method to make the car fail. Truly a sad thing to behold, especially because that company basically got a slap on the wrist for libel.
Dude have you owned a samurai it really is a death trap on the road.
A few reasons we didn't get more of them. People hopping in them and driving too fast around corners gave it a bad reputation. Also the engine swaps are popular because it is a pain to make a 1.3L Carbed 4x4 pass a smog check. Cool truck, I know a guy who had a couple.
Love my 87 JX. JL is just the trim package. Those hard tops are like 1700 bucks brand new.
We got them in Canada. Awesome rigs!
Parts are not hard to find. Companies are manufacturing everything for them you can imagine still. You can buy everything from custom interior door panels, choose from multiple style grills, LED side markers, to full suspension kits. Most people upgrade the motors though. I just rebuilt and swapped a 1.6 16v into mine (that's a Suzuki Sidekick / Geo Tracker engine).
Yup we got them here In Barbados a cheaper way of going off-road instead of buying an expensive 4x4
Here in India, they were rebadged as Gypsy, you can find parts for these pretty easily here as they are very popular with off road enthusiasts.
I’ve only ever seen one of these a teacher at the school I go to has one I worked on it in auto class it was lots of fun a very interesting design
Thats a clean one they never brake never ever 😂❤
Here in India it's Called Suzuki Gypsy and its till now popular in here.
Guy in my neighborhood has like 5 of these, really cool car
I had a 1987. A little tank!
I still have 1995 sidekick, and it is awesome!
I live in Australia and the Jimnys, Sierras and LJs are dam popular for its light weight, offroad capability and car's rego are great. Sucks that America had loss to have these great cars over a stupid scandal. I own a 2001 Jimny and it's my first car, runs like a dream
Not too sure about this exact model, but I had the Chevy tracker (Suzuki sidekick/vitara) and man it was a little beast.
I’ve got an f250 SD 4x4, and while it would outpull the tracker thag tracker would smoke the shit out of people.
All the 4wd new suv out there and I’d just hum off the lights on severe snow days.
Like there was a hole in the floor and I was suckjng snow inside the cab dojng 80km/h and this thing just moved.
Took it a few times into brush for firewood and hauled downed trees closer to the property.
Towed with it. Had the light bar took it camping, got compliments from a few people calling it cool.
Some jackass scrapped it on me rather than getting me to come take it when the property was sold. Pretty pissed wasn’t worth a ton but a cool little machine.
4cyl easy on gas but nice 4wd little ripper.
Costa Rica is full of them!
Here in India, this car was named Gypsy, came with the 1.3L G13BB engine, pretty capable offroader with that short wheelbase and High GC
These were so popular back in the day I really wish they would have kept making them. And you're correct about the Jimny they would really make a good dent in the aftermarket over here if they have them
My buddy has one on a set of 1tons with 42s, stock 1.6 on propane, and dual t-cases ..pretty kick ass little truck
yup, i'de be a buyer on that one
I’ve wanted one of these for a long time
Available in the states between 88 and 95 known as the Suzuki Samurai. I have an 88 😁 they also sold the Suzuki sidekick I get my parts from Zuks of hazard and Zukz off road. They could tell you what the jL means
Some models are SJ410 (small jeep 4wd 1.0)
Here in Europe they are common, cool little Cars
Probably had the “clicky starter” issue, very common and a easy fix
My mom had one of these. It was a 1983 Suzuki Samurai my mom said it has been in an accident before with my sisters sitting in the back. My mom said the side mirrors were so strong that it didn't break when the car rolled. My mom got an injured leg.. and she sold her wedding ring just to fix her injured leg. That's how poor our family was before. But I'm the little brother commenting. And I didn't live a life poor. They were average now when I was born. But it's crazy that our family had a car crash before...
I think the death of the samurai being sold in the US eventually caused the side by side atv craze we have today.
They’re fun little 4x4s but the engines were way underpowered. Similar to the Toyota pickup 20r and 22r. But with a divorced transfer case it’s not hard to swap in a 2wd 4 or 6 cylinder & transmission from a mid 90s suv or little truck.
There are plenty of Samurais in the USA, if it was a Jimny then it would be a really rare vehicle to find in the USA. The hartop is aftermarket and they're about $1200 brand new, outside that there is nothing spectacular about it. If the ignition wasn't trashed it would be worth 5-6k, new steering column and ignition parts +time that's going to be at least 1k nocked off the price.
The best car for off road in Colombia :D
I love that color ngl
Ig JL is just a trim level. A lot of people talk about trims "J" "JL" "Special" "JX" and "JA" That is in no particular order, however, people say that JX is the highest trim. I guess some trims offer carpet, a clock, a tachometer, and other details we find trivial today. Some claim that they have ones that have "JXL" and "JA". All I could find in my short spare time
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Gimme gimme gimme! Would be an awesome project
I would buy that in a freaking heartbeat. I drive a Suzuki Equator, no one ever knows wtf it is because they are so rare. Lol
Aren’t Equators basically a rebadged D40 Frontier?
@ajisai3558 Indeed, it is! Made less than 6000 of them from 09 to 2012. I just think they are pretty cool.
You can put a 305 in it mad crazy
Why does it have a kia plate at the back😂😂
Always wanted one these
Love the Jimny 😩
My neighbor actually has one that is a soft top
Back East saw a few in the 90s and early 2000s, but haven seen one for quite awhile.
that's beautiful
Dream project car!
Buy it!!!!❤
In Australia it's actually cord a Suzuki Sierra
I see these Evey where in Florida especially here in south FL
Had one still miss it.
Hella common where I'm from; but does remind me of the ascent to Gorakh Hills, as the route only allows vehickes like these.
I see samurais all over the place here in Tennessee
The way that sits, it's worth about 7 grand! That thing is clean! I miss both my tin top and convertible ones. Amazing off road. Very reliable, great on gas. Some even had A/C.
this little suzuki just looks cute lol
Wow it's right side up. One of the most rollable cars ever.
Bs
it rolled over the same amount as any other SUV of that time
Want som Cool-Aid?
I bet you think the world is flat because you read that one time too.
Look it up...Suzuki took the ones responsible for the rumor to court. They failed to roll it many times. It wasn't until they took Sharp turns at unreasonable speeds that they got it to tip. The video footage of the test results is online. They settled out of court and the ones responsible apologized, but the damage to the reputation was done 😢 after 95 they pulled out of America
@@apolloxlix679bro you obviously haven’t actually driven a stock samurai. They were way more tippy. The springs are too stiff because they are too short.
These are actually police squad cars in India...in 80s spec of course. Wish that they still made them!
So sick
We own one it’s a five speed manual transmission holes on the bottom are for to drain all the water out
Bring it to the UP. You'd easily get double the auction price, possibly more since it's low rust. It's the perfect sxs. Very capable and easy to work on.
They are everywhere where I live
Cool
I own one. I have to keep a steering wheel lock on it as thieves are always trying to steal it. Nice little runner. But I never stop having to do door lock repairs.
You should buy this
Perfect 4x4, plow rig!!! I would buy it, Minnesota nice , no more than a grand
as a south African I am honored to be able drive Suzuki swift,vitara/samurai,Brezza,belino,jimny, s presso, and last but not least how could I forget celario
Suzuki Samurai 0-60 MPH in I'll tell ya when I get to 60 next week some time. I drove a rental one in Hawaii years ago. That thing had horrible acceleration.
Those were common in the states in the late 80’s and early 90s.
Its cool😊
Grab it, good vehicle 🚜.
India and Malaysia still have the parts available.
Oh it's so good
Yeah Jimny!
in Indonesia, we got the Katana, not the Samurai. but similar
Had an Izuzi Amigo, should have kept it.
I've heard they can't sell the Jimny here due to its size. Something about classifications and road safetyness
In Australia these are called Suzuki Sierras
I think this is the one where you have a bumper sticker installed upside down that says if you can read this could you flip me back over?!
There's lots of parts availability for these. There's even a shop in Florida that does LS swap or even the GM 4.3l V6 engine, along with lifts or even drops.
Just don swap with bs
The number plate on back said "kia"💀
If the price was right, I'd jump on it. Those hard tops bring good money.
I rooted my mates mum in the back of one of those in the early 00's.
It was awkward and uncomfortable.
The LE stands for Low Emission
