Gobbi was a great actor, great stage presence with great vocal technique, but I never cared for his high notes. His high notes sound like what a hollow piece of wood would make if you tapped it; it doesn't ring out. For the record, I never heard him live, therefore it could be a recording issue or it might be just me. Hearing him live might have been a different experience. Rest in peace, maestro.
