In my late teens the father of a friend of mine was going through a midlife crisis and so made himself a forge and got an anvil etc and started trying to turn a leaf spring from a big truck into a sword having never even done wood working in school. It didn't go to well from memory. I remember at a party at their place one day, hearing his wife laugh say to other wives that she wishes that he would just go and get a Porsche or a have an affair or something like a normal guy.

Those railroad rails make perfect hobbyists anvils. They're made of hardened steel, so they take a lot of hammering well. I've installed 5 foot rails vertically as car barriers in front of small businesses. Just set it 2 feet down in the soil with concrete holding it, leaving 3 feet above ground to stop cars from bumping into the building. Believe me, they might loosen the concrete some if they hit one, but they'll never bend that rail! It's ten times better than the old drill stem that I used in the past, but it's also ten times heavier too!

I'm sure this was made for TV, but we don't need a play back every 10 minutes.

Average family..400 loads of wash per year! Not us, we wash about 3 loads every 7 days....that's only 125 loads per year. Average people are very wasteful.
