What do you think I actually do as a QA at CIG? I'm really curious! I know I said it has been a week since my last video, but I just didn't finish this until now. It has been 2, lol. Also, when people say we "waste resources on CitCon instead of development", you do realize that we can only show the videos of features AFTER these features have been developed and worked on in the first place. It doesn't mean that CitCon took development time away, but that's just my opinion. 🤓
Here's a tip as an IT professional I learned from a very old man working in car industry as both QA technician and an assembly supervisor (It follows the principle of KISS). Complexity that arises from complexity at the basic level will not hold up because faults of complexity will be difficult; however complexity that is founded on simplicity is foundationally strong. EDIT: Do learn from Elon Musk's practice of First Principles.
You test specific features requested by devs. But you lack the time to go into detail on testing, which is why Evo, and the general public is the most useful QA. Still, compared to other games and their development. CIG seem the worst at fixing bugs. Maybe that's due to the larger variety of factors compared to other games.
@@Kelydrex I imagine different development teams having very specific things they need testers to test. So I imagine you constantly playing broken builds, trying to break them along the lines that the Devs want you to break them 😅
Glad you got to speak your mind and it shows you have a big heart for this game. I’m excited about some of the parts that you spoke about and as a long time backer since 2013, I believe in the Vision of the Mount Everest of development and the chosen few that ascended to that summit.
Since you asked for a bug list for your background footage, I'll see what I can gather: From the start there is the inaccurate self status hologram of your ship in MFDs and in the HUD, there's the persistent "0 - GUNS (ALL)" text on your HUD, and there is unresponsive AI when you begin your engagement. At 1:03 you can see NPC ship warping around. There's delays interacting with the Freelancer, like the doors and sitting in the pilot seat, not so much bugs but certainly a QOL frustration, combined with the physics clank when looting is components probably indicates it being lag or poor server performance, but you'd know better than me. At 4:25 your team mate shows that coolers don't snap to cargo grids nicely and appear to hover over each other. They then seem to struggle snapping guns and missiles to the grid and get stuck on an object at 4:59. At 5:45 the cargo in the elevator doesn't move with the elevator as it drops. At 6:00 you can see the utility items on your team mate's belt haven't aligned properly. At 7:25 you show off some shadow movements. I'm guessing it's from SSAO or shadows reacting to a LOD change as you get closer to the ladder. At 7:55 there's flickering textures (z-fighting?) in the cockpit. At 8:08 you show two bugs on the mobiglas, one being that all your accepted contracts don't show when you first open that tab (you have two priority missions, but only one is currently showing) and also I'm not quite sure, but it seems you definitely found the cargo ship and retrieved the cargo, but either way the contract objectives should update to be either clearer on what you've done or what you need to do. It's sometimes hard to predict whether a mission is in a broken state or if the game isn't giving you the correct information when doing it. Around 9:45 you have the sofa which isn't fully interactive, this could be a design consideration, but you as a player tried sitting in one part of the chair and found you couldn't. When you sat down the game showed off its sometimes harsh third person camera movements as it tried not to clip through the ship or your body. You could then see more flickering lights behind the kitchen bench. At 11:10 there's some geometry passing through the ship exterior (looks like black shapes) on either side of the cockpit roof. 12:35 the classic "gateway granted" while landed, then ATC not actually opening the doors. I'm looking forward to seeing what I missed from a trained eye, though playing and watching footage are very different experiences. I tried not to make assumptions about what was happening and just took on what I could see on the tiny phone screen. Do you have to go through lots of footage yourself in your job? Or do you need to recreate situations in game?
That's a pretty good list of issues you've found and I'm amazed that you took the time to do this! That just shows that you'd be far more capable of doing this job than the majority of people. Let's see when I have the time to get back to this in another video. It depends, there is so much involved that it's hard to explain it all, especially when I'm unable to go into detail as I can't show most of it. In general, footage is a good way of displaying an issue together with good documentation and debug info depending on what it is about. Let's see if I can get my words together better next time!
@@Kelydrex and I guess most of these things can't just be fixed on the fly without going through all the different plans of what all the teams will be doing, and has to be properly tasked in their appropriate workflow pipelines
@@CosmicD Ah yeah, it's also a matter of priority and severity, sometimes even difficulty. Sometimes an issue is so bizzare that you'll need more time to investigate why it's a problem at all. there's soo much to consider...
@ y s, like I could point out a number of things on the cockpit side, but I knew some of these things wouldn’t be worked on after they would focus on overhauling the mod’s and now you see all these IC’s in this patch cycle. Quantum travel routing is sometimes a bit finicky but we know that the new quantum traveling system is going to liberate movement quite a bit, and I even see them waiting to implement new scan and radar or map stuff until they can implement qt overhaul. I have the feeling these features are tied together.
Never discouraged! Negativity doesn’t bother me, especially when it’s constructive. I’m clear about my boundaries and know I’m not obligated to do anything here. I can choose not to upload a video, it wouldn’t really make a difference! 😄
What is your favorite ship in SC? What do you most enjoy about playing SC? Mining, exploration. I know mine is Exploration. Also, most people complaining or talking trash about what you do for CIG is jealous. Many of us would love to be in your position being part of that community internally. Fun Fact: The reason I love this game is because as a child back in the 80's I always wanted to be an astronaut (Was captivated by space and the Uknown even till this day, obviously :) ) as I grew up from 5- to 9 I found out I was scared of heights; dream was crushed lol.
Ooh that's interesting lol. Yeah I'm also more on the exploration side and enjoy mining. The game is so chill so I wanna do chill things. I don't have an absolute favorite ship, but the ones I usually buy in the game are the following in no particular order: Blade, C8R Pisces, Defender, MSR, Inferno, Scorpius. The Carrack is one of the ships we use a lot in general though, it's just not on my personal account. Polaris soon ™
I am an old man. Back in the day, we had to develop things by hand. It took much longer to achieve goals. People used to understand and exercise patience. Today, we live in a world of instant gratification. People want their stuff right now and seem to believe that amazing things just pop into existence overnight or that things should work perfectly the first time around. The entitlement can be excruciating. I see SC as an investment in what can be and I enjoy playing it as it develops. Keep up the good work with your videos. I truly enjoy them and how realistic and level headed you are.
Yes. If you contracted a construction company to build your house and THEY gave you 2 years to complete. After some delays,, let's say it was 12 years in total, would you call yourself 'instant gratification seeker'?
@@inter_estelar yeah... Easy thinking easy life? It is more like this. You order a house and your contract is making a house which takes two years to build. After one year you change your mind and you want a bigger house with more extras. Now your house needs twelfe years to build. Now you complain why it is not finnished after 2 years.
I back Star Citizen back in like 2014-2015 and slowly started to put more money into it by upgrading ships until I could buy the UEE Exploration 2950 Pack (Which is no longer sold.), and I am not disappointed in putting that much money into this game, sure I go long stents without playing but I still own every ship and item given to me by RSI, it's a great game that I've upgraded PCs for many times and I can't wait for the full game to release. As soon as I upgrade the ram on my computer and get a powered USB hub for multiple accessories I'm going to be streaming the game. People done understand development times and while I am disappointed we don't have multiple systems by now, I know that can't fully be realized until server meshing is done and I understand the complexity of that so I'm willing to wait to see the results.
A lot of people would be even more upset considering the time they've started backing, especially if even more money is spent. I'm impressed that there are so many who stay positive and simply accept the state of the game and keep supporting it. I don't see any shame in spending a lot on something that a person enjoys, and it doesn't mean that you have to dedicate every single minute to it either. Thanks for your opinion! 😄
@Kelydrex I go through stents of not playing the game until a big update release or I decide I want to play again for a little bit, but the number of upset people about stuff being pushed back is understandable, but at the same time more polish isn't a bad thing just need to meet deadlines instead of pushing them back so often.
QA I think stands for Quality Analyst. So my best guess is that you are assigned to look at specific details or aspects of the game before it gets released to evocati. You’re the one who gives a green light after a first pass through whatever is released to the game. For example: jump point Pyro - Stanton. Dev writes the code, QA checks / play test if it “works” in an enclosed environment. QA gives green light to get jump points tested by evocati to find flaws when stress tested. Then ptu stresses it more and report more bugs, then live version bug reports polishes… 😊 hope i got it right, at least the general direction 😅
@@TheBuckRider Analyst could be the right description too at certain companies, but most of the time it's Quality Assurance. Indeed you can be assigned to check specific things in detail. Since there are also a lot of different roles within QA, some may be testing a much earlier version of something while others may actually be on Evocati along with backers and more. There are indeed many aspects and areas as well as versions that need attention. It's also not just about making sure it "works", but you can also give feedback and suggest design changes. A lot of issues that Evocati encounters has been discovered before (and the Known Issues list by far doesn't cover everything), but yeah, stress testing on Evocati or PTU gives more realistic statistics that can be looked at, as well as issues that only arise in this more realistic environment. Oof, I wanted to keep it short but it's surprising how much more there is to it other than just "playing the game". I feel like I could go on forever 😄
I'm pretty sure 80% of your day as QA is writing a detailed report of the bugs, qol, graphics, suggestions for improvement, and last but not least what you saw fixed from the previous version you had. This includes hardware and software testing. Leaving you 20% to play through the spesific areas assighned to you for the day.
@@silus73 That's not too bad of a description! The percentages are not necessarily 80/20 as they can greatly vary from day to day and it can depend on your focus or task you're going for. Testing can definitely go beyond just the game, where other tools or software etc needs to be checked as well. Statistics can be analyzed and things can be investigated further.. it really does have a lot of different aspects to it, but your list would be a big part of it for sure! 😄
While I am an avid disliker of PvP, Star citizen roped me in because I like its idea, its world, and how it approaches "Space Simulation" as a whole over other games. While there will be unavoidable PvP for me in the future, I will end up dealing with it, because I'm not so petty as to stop playing a game I enjoy because some person (or group of people) are spawn camping me for 8 hours straight. I also have some ideas I want to try the next time the Space Station defenses bug out and don't actually defend the stations like they have in the latest PTUs before the recent LIVE patch for 3.24.3. All in all, I thank you for the time and effort you put into this great game, negative feedback or not. A QA Tester like yourself is needed, and I've enjoyed the game you've helped made possible.
Thanks for your kind words! Yeah I rather want to avoid PvP in SC, because I'd rather be playing an entirely different game for that instead. If I play a PvP game, I get very competitive, but I no longer want to go through that kind of stress. The last competitive game I played as a semi-tryhard was Overwatch where I've reached the highest competitive rank. SC for me is something very chill and I'd love to keep it chill with all the relaxing things you can do. I also agree that this is so unique, it's difficult to even compare to any other game. I'm trying my best to contribute as best as I can, but there's only so much impact I can have. I do hope things will be better regarding stability, bugs and more 😄
You are right, it is hard to determine the what the next thing to develop should be, because everybody what’s something else. But what I and others don’t understand and don’t feel right about is, that CIG is choosing these things above the basics first. Things that everybody wants and needs are seemingly pushed back to develop nieche things. A org and friend tool, any game reason to play multicrew, working npcs and good missions (even if that just mean you don’t have to fly through the whole of Stanton just for a 3min mission), good flight mechanics, a good working inventory system and so on. They are working on some of those things but after 10 years this is more to be excepted than something special. I love this game and CIG but I hate their lack of good priorities and communication. To this day the never officially said that Theaters of war development was stopped for example. I enjoy that you share your view, even tho it’s hard to compare when you „have no expectations „ because then you will never find something good or bad. 😊
With any large complex project you should always prioritize the most risky things first (plus whatever is absolutely necessary to test the most risky things) + other dependency considerations. The reason org and friend tools have not been prioritized is because they are not risky or necessary to test risky systems like server meshing or planet tech etc NPCs and missions have been worked on a lot (at least the most risky parts of those systems), that doesn't translate to having good NPCs and missions, because the final parts of that process are not risky at all (compared to other things still needing work), or need other systems to be done. With flight mechanics and inventory, again, you work on the most risky parts of those systems first, then come back to finish the not so risky parts later. What you think are bad priorities are from the perspective of a player wanting to get the most fun from the game as soon as possible, rather than from the perspective of people trying to build the most fun game in the end. Ultimately, you want the same thing, but the 'obvious' path to get there looks different.
Oh yeah, there have been a few people who raised this concern about priority that people don't agree with, because most people would rather have more stability and fixes rather than new things. The only thing I'm gonna add is that there are different roles within the company, meaning that each person is working on something different. For example: a) There's a vehicle designer, b) there's a UI programmer, c) there's a community manager. If something is horribly wrong with a mission, then none of those people will fix it, because it's not their area of expertise. That doesn't mean that those people listed will stop working on a vehicle, UI or stop managing the community. They will still continue on their work and that may come out sooner than the fix for the mission. Does that make sense? But I absolutely get what you mean by that, and many others mentioned that they want better comms as well. Regarding my personal expectations: I don't think having no expectations means that I don't care and won't be able to see good/bad things. According to my leads/managers, I am doing above average and contribute a lot more than most due to my strengths and experience when it comes to SC. I just don't focus on watching the clock and waiting for something to happen, but instead do my best to contribute my part to the company. I work overtime when I feel it's right to do, because I'm dedicated to help get things done sooner. But that's just my little part out of the 1000 other employees, and of course there's only so much I can do by myself. 😄
By the way, thanks for the content. I really enjoy it! It's very interesting to see your take as you have been on both sides. Also, your atittude towards haters is on point. There are many ignorant people out there who form opinions based on clickbait. But remember that for each one of those there are several who get it.
Indeed, thank you for your kind words! The overwhelmingly positive attitude and passion of the SC community is actually one of the main reasons I got so interested in it (and also the fact that it has a more mature audience). As someone who never had such passion for anything, it's one of the things that make me happy through other people's excitement. Of course, my own interest grew over time as well, but everything put together is such an awesome experience.
As Macmillan said, "you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time." I've been backing since 2013 and have loved every minute of it, it has been enthralling watching the development, it's an incredible undertaking, massive, and I've just loved being part of it all.
I get that! I might only be a small part of the bigger picture, but I’m proud to contribute in any way I can. Sure, progress is slow, this is a massive undertaking, and of course, not everything will meet everyone’s expectations, but I’m still glad to be able to say that I'm doing my part. 😄
I think it is good for you that you don't have any expectations and that you can't get upset because of that but please be honest here that it is not just players with different expectations... CiG itself set most of the expectations and failed to deliver for now. Nothing is working like it should be on PU with the server performance and events feel like copy paste of missions that are there for years now. It has been so many years and it is just not fair to call people impatient after that time. Game development is not easy but i was 23 for example when i backed SC and i will be 40 or older when it launches. That's nothing normal in game development. I don't want to blame anyone or being just negative but i hope that some of you guys can see the good and the bad facts. If many people work hard everyday it should be visible and i hope that we will see more of that in the following years. anyways have a great day guys
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's great or justified as it is! I've been aware of this project much sooner than when I actually started backing it, and that'd basically be the whole duration of my relationship of 11+ years, and one third of my whole life. I'm not calling people impatient, it's just more about my personal understanding as to why it doesn't "just go faster". I also don't think that the company believes they're flawless. I hope that the following months/years will be better for everyone. 😄
Other way around, the people who play the game actually know what the problems in the game are, and CAN criticise. The people who dream about the "potential" of the game are often running on old, outdated information and sometimes fabrications dreamt up by fans who hope that one day the game will fit their expectations, not what it currently is.
Both perspectives are valid! Some may lack the full experience to see the bigger picture, while those more involved with Star Citizen, whether through following development or playing extensively, can provide valuable critiques. Everyone comes with unique expectations and viewpoints, and since nothing is perfect, constructive criticism is inevitable.. even from those who are highly positive about the project! 😄
Hey! I just found your channel and Twitch! Great seeing more women in SC! There are a higher proportion among streamers (and among devs too I suppose), but I think women playing SC is less than 2%, and almost all because their partner plays. It is a pity, because if there were more of us it would be twice as many players.
To be fair, my partner was also the one who initially got me into it, but my own interest grew ever since I started watching the videos about development. It generally takes a long time for me to start liking something, so it definitely was a journey! Thanks for watching and your comment!
@@Kelydrex I think it is very common for our partners to pull us in 😀 I think it is mainly a question of priorities and vision for CIG. If they want more women to play, they can get them. The game has everything, so it can easily be less "bro"-exclusive, at least in some parts of the 'verse.
Thank you for this. I am a long-time backer as well. I have my opinions on the game, but overall, I'm more frustrated at the communication aspect than the game itself. Lots of things promised and lots of things fell to the waist side. Some things purchased like the BMM or all the features from the 2023 citizen con that are still not in the game after promised for this year last year. The misleading communication tricks people into buying something, thinking one thing, but ultimately getting something else. The marketing is way better than the delivery if that makes sense. I love the game, and I love this video. Thank you for sharing.
I hear ya. Concerns about communication and marketing are raised often, and unfortunately, those aren’t areas I’m involved in. Things like limited paints, restricted ship availability, or announced features missing their "deadlines" can definitely be frustrating, and you’re not alone in feeling that way. Being so passionate about the game makes it even more disappointing in the end. 😥
I like the honest and perspective you bring. Let’s clarify many of the customers perspectives including mine. We pay, fund, and support the PU. We get delays often, false promises, marketing bs, money diverted from the PU into the single player Squadron 42 game (should have its own fucking funding), and we pay for whatever the new thing CIG trademarked this year… if the PU kept its funding and kept development many of us would be less angry. CIG has improved development and communication but it’s been a Bumpy road and the engine is old and dated which is probably hard to work with. Customers don’t care about anything outside of the product we get; good or bad. Keep it up but I’ll share my consumer opinion as well.
Oh absolutely, you're all free to share your views and thank you for the feedback! There are definitely a lot of people who share your opinion about the delays and marketing. It's one of the biggest topics that I've observed in my comments so far. Things are far from perfect, and there is always a lot of room for improvement. Let's hope things get better overall and match the expectations of backers who have contributed their money and patience. We all want this to be awesome and clearly it is a lot more difficult than anticipated. 👍
@ yep, it’s always bugged me from the start. Anyways, I do agreed but I’ll always call CIG out on this decision even if it was assumably Chris R. who decided how to fund his solo game project.
Aww... you are not at all awkward. You made your way into your dreamjob after quite some pathfinding. That's awesome. Thanks for your candor and your enthusiasm. Earns you an Insta-Follow! Greetings from Germany :) ... P.S. I want swimming, diving and underwater cave and facility entrances, and ships with moon pools and submersible snub crafts. I know, it's still a few years away, but I backed in 2012, and the daily game development reality show that's going on transparently here on YT is keeping me entertained :)
Thank you! Oh swimming is something I haven't thought about in a while ever since we've gotten our rivers and such, interesting. That shows how diverse people's wishes are and that's so cool to hear! Especially from a long term backer like yourself!
@@gorganhorn6872 We can absolutely stream Star Citizen! Every employee has signed an NDA of course, meaning that we don't want to leak information or talk about internal stuff, but we can stream for sure. I have been an SC streamer before I started working and I continued streaming it at the beginning. I just lack the time to play/stream more now and need to separate work and free time a bit more. I don't need to make SC relates content over here on YT but I do it anyway because I enjoy it. There's only so much I can talk about as I don't want to compromise my position at work. Some of my old broadcasts should still be on my channel 😆
For me all the games I've seen Star Citzen was the game that made more with less. Imagine how many companies spent 400 millions dollars and they delivery a average experience. I think Star Citzen it's just too ambition. I believe this game just gonna release in 2035 the Star Citzen 1.0. Because how many things they wanna put in the game, it's too much mechanics and variety. Imagine make a game PvE and PvP in one serve at same time trying to solve the problem of grifers. I hope the devs just remember people will try to live in Star Citzen. Other thing I hope they don't try to balance the over power that org will gonna have over small group or lone players. Because this should happen naturally. For me this game will gonna be the greatest space role-playing game ever exist. Imagine huge battle over a spot with orgs against each other.
@@THEMASTEROFTHEKEY I see, thanks for your feedback! I remember a few years back, we had a big battle with our Org and had races or player-made scenarios and that was great fun! We had a lot less features back then, but we were able to do so much anyway. We do hope it isn't gonna take so many more years to get to 1.0, however it doesn't mean that development stops once we reach that point. Yeah, it makes sense that a big Org has more people and will overpower smaller ones, but that also just makes sense that this would be the case.
My question is regarding the Save Stanton mission- I just server hoped and Phase 3 i still not working and hasn't been working for days- it's very frustrating as why did people bother testing it in PTU if it is still broken when it goes LIVE to the PU ?
@@honey-fe6pj I'm sad that it isn't in a better state on live 😭 I agree, that's frustrating. Certain things are being tested way before PTU even (Evocati, internally), because the goal is obviously to find issues and fix them. Different environments can show different issues and live has a lot more people on it than the other versions. A lot of it comes down to server performance and not necessarily the event itself being broken. If it wasn't tested in previous builds, then we'd most likely have an even worse event with more issues. Hopefully, with further improvements to performance and stability, all of this is gonna be less of a pain sooner than later 😔
Grüße aus DE. : ) I'd say "hope you got better weather than we do have (in NRW), but considering you're in the UK, we're probably having the same wet, windy, winter without snow. : / But congratz on your job! Working in the gaming industry AND for CIG? I'm jealous! : ) On topic: People calling SC a scam can neither comprehend the backstory nor the process. They see their franchise fast food trash games like CoD or BF, or Fifa getting a release every year and compare it to a game like SC. The amount of ignorance to do this, made me realize it's pretty useless to discuss with these haters. It's like talking to flat earthers.
I know right? Some critiques are valid opinions though, so I'm perfectly fine with those. There are definitely some extreme ones out there 😄I'm very happy to be part of CIG and contribute my little bit to the development! Nothing's perfect of course, but we strive to improve nonetheless. I'm also from NRW btw 😄
Great video. Maybe you can share info on ship development like that Galaxy not being a base builder then base builder again. Is it going to be a base builder or not? Because it was showed at citcom it was a base builder
That’s one area I’m not able to discuss. Details about the roadmap, upcoming features, or releases are only shared through official announcements. When it’s time for the community to know about these, the information will be made available through the proper channels.
Yeah, however I'm not specialized in vehicles and focus on other things more. I normally don't go into detail when it comes to what my main focus at work is. Fun fact though, I literally only own an Aurora on my personal account and only buy other ships with ingame currency.
I guess the bigger problem is the state of the game at the live servers... the server-fps and all this bugs and desyncs.... Most players want that they make first a stable basis before they make even more stuff on top, wich makes it even more unstable....
Yeah, understandable. I also wish we had better server fps because things are actually sooo good if we can have that consistently! Based on what I know and what we have talked about in one of the recent ISCs, performance improvements are always worked on, but it's also true that it degrades because of all the new things that are being added at the same time. Hoping for the good stuff sooner than later!
Hmm, not sure what you mean by that 😅 But yeah, this job might not be the most complex out there, but it’s definitely not for everyone. Just like being a veterinary nurse, where some people can’t handle needles, blood or surgery, this role has its own challenges that make it unsuitable for certain people.
Even if I happen to know, that'd be one of the things I can't discuss. Whatever the community is allowed to know when it comes to stuff like this, is when it is announced via one of the official channels. Sorry!
i have a question about the type of servers they are using for the back bone of the mesh systems? and would the new nivida new type of ai servers aid in meshing?
I'm not sure if I can really get into this so much (NDA), so hopefully there will be more details and explanations regarding servers in one of our official ISC or SCL videos/broadcasts at some point. 😄
Dude I've asked CIG if I can get that skin or will it be available in the future for the MSR, nope. I hate skins being locked and the game not even officially released.
It sucks that some things are limited, I know. Unfortunate that you weren't able to get this one. That's why they are "special" things though, so.. eh. 😢
i couldnt agree more but the first 9 minutes talking about movies and puppies.... i got the point in minute 2. i would like to heave heard more about CIG and less about crazy people with odd expectations.... i know CIG like s to blame use people for white noise and we like to blame them for poor business practice... but there is nothing that can be done about progress or lack there of..... sometimes i have projects that look simple but take longer and vise versa. we just need CIG to blame the people less and make smart business decisions.... not to be confused with projects but rather practice!!! CIG makes a lot of business decisions that if was a US based company they would get fined for violating state or federal laws or regulations but because they are multinational company based in UK they have more lax laws and regulations... that can get away with things like block free speech or hire 30 low wage, low IQ devs to try and make up for paying 1 person millions that built chat GPT to make NPCs not T pose on furniture. love you CIG but you have to be open to fair criticism!!!
@@paratrooperz1 Oh yeah, good that I was able to bring my point across right away, but not everyone understands things the same way as you do, right? What else would you like to hear about from my side? I'm also rather limited to what I can share as I'm part of the team, so there's only so much I can talk about. I'm sorry if it came across as CIG blaming their backers - I've always tried to make clear that people's opinions are absolutely valid and fair. People aren't being ignored, but that's exactly the problem here. With such a diverse audience where everyone expects or wants something different, there's no way you are able to please them all. Yes of course there's a lot of room for improvement at the company and I've never claimed that they are flawless and do everything correctly. Receiving criticism is needed, because it will of course influence the development as this game is meant to be for the players, not just for ourselves.
@@Kindaslow83 I don't think it's crazy! Of course, a small 2D platformer game with 5 hours of gameplay doesn't cost as much as something as big as SC. It makes sense to me, but apparently not to most other people 😄

People really don't understand, Rockstar released GTA 5 Nearly 12 years ago, GTA 6 cost Upwards of $2billion, and Rockstar has Nearly 6,000 employees. GTA 5 has probably generated some where near 10 billion for rockstar as well. CIG has 1100 employees (after Turbulent acquisition), and a budget that really risen to $700m, and revenue that averages about $80m a year. For me, where Star Citizen is right now today, shows that the vision is real, the whole scam game arguments are null and void, it has no equal in this space literally, I compared it to GTA because it's the closest by being only a fraction of what star citizen and will be by just merely 1.0. GTA 6 will give a vast CITY to explore, and more than likely 20ish player LOBBIES. A dozen or so weapons, a few dozen vehicles, and a few game modes. If that cost $2billion+ and 6000 employees 12 years to make, what it if that gave us several cities GTA 5 size? across continents, lets us travel to them, what if the RP elements were actually in game where you could be a police officer, a mechanic, stripper, club owner, etc., how about a player driven economy? a stock market that functioned, and had 1000+ player servers? and with a community that expects 60$ price tag, no subscription no model, and little to no bugs? Server Meshing, made me a believer, it was the thing that was highly ambitious to just conceptualize let alone understanding how highly complex it is/was to even get to where it is today, gaming companies are still skeptical it's even possible... even with it being showcased, because of what it allows... It allows star citizen to exist, it allows the dream to become reality. I think people just really don't have the brain power to understand server meshing, and a basically level, and what it does for this game and means to this game... Unprecedented Scale and Scope -Dynamic Resource Allocation, An Entirely Persistent Universe, NEVER DONE BEFORE! If they can release just a fraction of 1% of what it is capable of next month or several months, with today's team and today's technology. Being able to achieve server meshing with 500-1000 people per cluster would be insane by next month....
Looks like you really get it! It's a great example of how much is involved, though you're right that not everyone can fully grasp the complexity of it all. Of course, nothing is perfect, and some critiques are completely valid. For me, the development process itself is what hooked me more than actually playing the game. I watched every ISC and SCL episode, learned so much, and was genuinely impressed. Being part of this process now, contributing in my own small way, is something I never expected to experience. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave this feedback!
I'll sum up my frustrations with CIG: Too many ship sales, not enough actual, complete gameplay or reason to play. But to go into more detail: I wish CIG would focus on selling gameplay instead of just ships. Imagine if they developed a massive mission chain that required teamwork, then sold ships designed to fit those missions. Instead, they keep bragging about their tools making mission creation easier, but we see almost none of that potential realized. I backed in 2020, and after $1,300, I’ve run the full cycle from excitement to disillusionment. CIG feels bogged down by mismanagement and greed, spending dev time on flashy ships instead of meaningful content. I understand $700 million isn't much in gamedev space, but after 12 years, the lack of compelling gameplay is infuriating. Star Citizen isn’t a game, it’s a flashy tech demo. Spend a few months learning the ropes, and you’ll hit the same wall everyone does: it’s a trap to lure you into buying more digital ships. CIG’s priority isn’t gameplay, it’s getting you to drop cash, hoping you’ll become another 'whale' with a fleet you can’t fully use. If you’re still enchanted, give it time-you’ll see through it too.
Yeah, I absolutely understand your viewpoint of all this. Your expectations differ from some others, and goals don't seem to match your expectations compared to what the company does. You're not the only one saying that there is lack of gameplay, but that is also something that depends on the individual what they even consider gameplay in the first place. If this is how you feel, that's fair! I hope things will match your views a bit better in the future so that it'll make up for what you anticipated.
Unfortunately people don't really care about scope or technology constraints. They believe that since most big games take on average 7 years of development, they expect ALL games to take around that long regardless. They couldn't care less about all the explanations as they're all just "excuses" in their minds. I'd love to see more positive videos than just explaining yourself to the critics.
That’s a fair point! Since I’m limited in what I can share about internal processes, I’ve mostly focused on explaining my role in previous videos, as it’s a topic not many are familiar with. You’re right that many people just want a playable game without concerning themselves with the challenges behind the scenes - it’s understandable. What kind of content would you rather be interested in seeing here?
i'd get in as qa but i find the climate for social interactions to be somewhat repulsive actually outright discrimnative now maybe it always was but didn't notice it till after brexit the issue was SMART people and SOCIAL people don't get on and they know they have to hire Smart people but keep them working the majority of the project while the social people freeload Compairing mobile games (low tec low effort and established tech market) so innovation and pioneering companies like CIG yeh you can't compair a industry to an apple cart
Hmm, I'm not sure I know what you mean by that. Do you mean social interactions within the company with other QA and devs? I'm personally the kind of person who likes to keep to themselves, so I rather avoid social interactions too. However, when it comes to work, I can collaborate and work with my colleagues perfectly fine. Unlike some other jobs, we at least share a common interest (games, development) so those people seem to get along from what I've observed. If there are any problems, then this needs to be discussed and can be adjusted. The comparison with mobile games was only regarding the revenue made from it. Yeah, those mobile games don't have high tech or many devs working on it, but they still earn a ton more money than a big company such as CIG that needs the revenue to cover all employees and more. It isn't comparable when it comes to the game itself, of course 😄
Q&A means Questions And Answers. QA stands for Quality Assurance. What you mentioned can be a part of what a QA does, but it isn't everything. There's a lot more to it! Issues that have been reported by Evocati or have an Issue Council ticket are only issues from players who have access to that specific build we've put on EPTU/PTU/Live so far. What about features or systems etc that players never had the chance to try (Nyx, Castra etc)? What about new ships that get announced and are ready to go before people got to try it (like the F8C Lightning if I remember correctly, going straight to Live)? There are many many more aspects that need attention from a QA before backers even get to touch any of it. 😄
I don't usually play with others, sorry! Especially ever since I started working, I spend less time playing as well, so it's really difficult to catch me online. I spend a lot of time working on it, so I try not to burn out by playing too much during my free time.
You're not awkward at all. You're fine. As for what I think you are talking about: I worked for multinationals. Automakers, Defense contractors, telecommunications - as a programmer/developer, analyst, PM or R&D Director. Projects at this level require very big budgets and many, many teams. They fail mostly due to BAD project management. My friends in the gaming industry share many stories that confirm this. Bad project management, bad upper management decisions are far worse than any change imposed by regulators or sudden market changes. That's the issue with most AAA projects. And this ends up translating to bugs, faulty feature implementation, incomplete feature implementation. I recall working for a company that, due to VC demands (quarterly returns, opportunity for growth in different markets, etc, etc) used to shift the bulk of man-hours to the next big thing, leaving a slightly bigger than residual team finishing the project/product. This is hardly an isolated case. There can be tech issues, yes, or QA issues, yes, or even personnel issues (working environment, salary policies, etc) but the most impactful blows come from bad decision making and project management.
@@mikem.s.1183 There definitely are a lot of things that have room for improvement! I never said things are flawless or perfect over here. At least we agree that it takes a lot of people and work to get things done, but I understand that people don't agree with how things are managed, or don't like certain results. Thanks for your input! I hope things do improve and we get to a better state overall than now! 😄
@@revengexmoon2087 Awh nice of you to call me nice at least 🤣 CIG isn't using me to sweet talk anything. Whatever they want to say or do is on the official channels and has nothing to do with mine. Opinions are valid and fair, and I never claimed that things are flawless and perfect over here. It's just me expressing a certain understanding as I can see this situation from both sides (backer and employee). Sorry you feel so disappointed.
AH another young kool-aid drinker, someone gotta keep funding server meshing tech while providing you with broken deadlines unfulfilled features and constant rework of current features to keep you buying those ships, all while getting ready to sell squadron 42 to microsoft and laugh at you while he runs with tech server mesh patent... Gonna sub see how long it takes you to become disillusioned. You can lacquer a turd but it's still a turd. just a shiny one.
You're entitled to your opinion, and that's fine. If your perspective is already that negative, nothing that'll happen in the development will change it. But honestly, if you feel this strongly, why spend your time here? Whether or not you eventually say "I told you so", it won’t change how I feel about contributing to this project or sharing my experiences right now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@Kelydrex no your wrong delivery of anything resembling a finished product. But Roberts has a history of mismanagement, while you hide behind pretty words, you are helping rob other people less knowledgeable about roberts, so you keep justifying to yourself how you are really doing a good thing, but really just helping steal peoples hard earned money. you are right IAM entitled to my facts about this company, and you are free chase this dragon. actually have no want to say "I told ya so" i will feel sad for you, when you do spit out that kool-aid and wake up, not all of us are bitter, just sad to see a dream turn into a dumpster fire

I think you are given a set of instructions, guidelines and/or parameters of specific things to do and report the results or findings.
EDIT:
Do learn from Elon Musk's practice of First Principles.
Break stuff?
I hope it'll be sooner than later and may the stability and performance get better so that we get to enjoy the true experience!

Since you asked for a bug list for your background footage, I'll see what I can gather:
From the start there is the inaccurate self status hologram of your ship in MFDs and in the HUD, there's the persistent "0 - GUNS (ALL)" text on your HUD, and there is unresponsive AI when you begin your engagement.
Thanks for your hard work and sharing your experience. Cant wait to play, someday.

What is your favorite ship in SC?
What do you most enjoy about playing SC? Mining, exploration.
I know mine is Exploration. Also, most people complaining or talking trash about what you do for CIG is jealous. Many of us would love to be in your position being part of that community internally.
Fun Fact:
The reason I love this game is because as a child back in the 80's I always wanted to be an astronaut (Was captivated by space and the Uknown even till this day, obviously :) ) as I grew up from 5- to 9 I found out I was scared of heights; dream was crushed lol.
That's the spirit my man
Yes. If you contracted a construction company to build your house and THEY gave you 2 years to complete. After some delays,, let's say it was 12 years in total, would you call yourself 'instant gratification seeker'?
uhhh its been in development for 12 years and still isnt even as in depth as an average sandbox game
@@OrphanCrippler1 oh, an expert is speaking. LOL
The reason org and friend tools have not been prioritized is because they are not risky or necessary to test risky systems like server meshing or planet tech etc
NPCs and missions have been worked on a lot (at least the most risky parts of those systems), that doesn't translate to having good NPCs and missions, because the final parts of that process are not risky at all (compared to other things still needing work), or need other systems to be done.
good on you :) ... very refreshing to see this side ... keep on going
@@palisairuta613 Thanks for watching 😄

Hi, great videos! Most people that criticize the game dont actually play it. Once you start playing it you get the idea of what this game will be.
What is CIG's policy on their employees streaming Star Citizen .
Yeah we need more pizza explications and more pizza in the game! You rocks !
lol, maybe it's too much at some point! Thanks for watching
Love your attitude and videos. Keep up the good work.
@@Kelydrex Fingers crossed
Bugs in the MSR? The "ENGINEERING" LoD LED door sign decal disappears when the opening animation plays.
Lack of crew entrance count as bug? :|
That'd be more "design feedback" than a bug! 😄
Grüße aus DE. : ) I'd say "hope you got better weather than we do have (in NRW), but considering you're in the UK, we're probably having the same wet, windy, winter without snow. : /
But congratz on your job!
Have you been testing the Aurora in your QA duties?
My job is killing my mental health.. wonder if I could do what you did ,very courageous.. good job..
Is there any chance that the MSR will ever get its Second Exit? Now seeing that the new Intrepid is sporting a really nice side door?
Even if I happen to know, that'd be one of the things I can't discuss. Whatever the community is allowed to know when it comes to stuff like this, is when it is announced via one of the official channels. Sorry!
@Kelydrex ok thank you.
i have a question about the type of servers they are using for the back bone of the mesh systems? and would the new nivida new type of ai servers aid in meshing?
I'm not sure if I can really get into this so much (NDA), so hopefully there will be more details and explanations regarding servers in one of our official ISC or SCL videos/broadcasts at some point. 😄
Dude I've asked CIG if I can get that skin or will it be available in the future for the MSR, nope. I hate skins being locked and the game not even officially released.
It sucks that some things are limited, I know. Unfortunate that you weren't able to get this one. That's why they are "special" things though, so.. eh. 😢
Man.. I'm still really sad that I couldn't get the nightrunner paint..
There are definitely a few who are sad about missing out on limited things. It sucks 😥
Good talk and Good vid
Stay Awesome :3
i couldnt agree more but the first 9 minutes talking about movies and puppies.... i got the point in minute 2. i would like to heave heard more about CIG and less about crazy people with odd expectations.... i know CIG like s to blame use people for white noise and we like to blame them for poor business practice... but there is nothing that can be done about progress or lack there of..... sometimes i have projects that look simple but take longer and vise versa. we just need CIG to blame the people less and make smart business decisions.... not to be confused with projects but rather practice!!!
Receiving criticism is needed, because it will of course influence the development as this game is meant to be for the players, not just for ourselves.
concord that was a very small game size vice compared to SC did cost 400 mill. so 700 mill for this is not crazy imo
@@Kindaslow83 I don't think it's crazy! Of course, a small 2D platformer game with 5 hours of gameplay doesn't cost as much as something as big as SC. It makes sense to me, but apparently not to most other people 😄
Jira tickets. Your day involves lots of Jira tickets.
How’d I do? 😉
Haha, hmm, kinda?! 😂
How realistic is the basebuilding and space stations coming in 2025 is it?
Lmao
Who said it was coming in 2025?
That’s one of the things I’m not able to discuss. Details about the roadmap, upcoming features, or releases are only shared through official announcements, so when it's time for you to know about these, then you'll find this info on their official channels. 😄
Pizza reminder. Mmmm. Love pizza 🍕
I'll sum up my frustrations with CIG: Too many ship sales, not enough actual, complete gameplay or reason to play.
But to go into more detail:
I wish CIG would focus on selling gameplay instead of just ships.

The MSR? 😅
i'd get in as qa but i find the climate for social interactions to be somewhat repulsive actually outright discrimnative now
maybe it always was but didn't notice it till after brexit the issue was SMART people and SOCIAL people don't get on
and they know they have to hire Smart people but keep them working the majority of the project while the social people freeload
Compairing mobile games (low tec low effort and established tech market)
so innovation and pioneering companies like CIG
yeh you can't compair a industry to an apple cart
It isn't comparable when it comes to the game itself, of course 😄
isn't Q&A meaning quality and assurance:: so you have items in a ticket que to try to replicate a bug or an issue that was reported?
your fine doing well good video
How to play with you?
I don't usually play with others, sorry! Especially ever since I started working, I spend less time playing as well, so it's really difficult to catch me online. I spend a lot of time working on it, so I try not to burn out by playing too much during my free time.
The whole game is falling apart and no one seems to care
Hmm, sucks that it appears like this to others.
You're not awkward at all. You're fine.
As for what I think you are talking about:
I worked for multinationals.
