    Totally agree with Tristan...best Capitol Peak video period. The footage is unbelievable. Thank you for capturing this and putting it together. I must ask about your camera, resolution, fps, etc. Fantastic job. I'm subscribed and may have to see your prior work to see if you've done the Bells Traverse or the Crestone Traverse. I just did Bells and it was amazing, though my camera work leaves alot to be desired. If you haven't done that, please do ... the internet will thank you for not just your mountaineer skill, but you camera work and editing skill. Awesome job!!

      My cameras are super basic, iPhone and GoPro with DGI drones when feasible. Definitely shooting it higher frame rates for many shots in order to slow down has helped me a ton! There is a video on the maroon bells traverse from last year, not quite the same quality as I’m putting out this year but still cool. I did climb the Cresto needle but we did the technical route on the Ellingwood ledges/arete. Also on the channel. If you have a suggested route you’d like to do together I would show you how I work, a lot of it is postproduction, editing as well.

      @@KarlDeckerPresents Thanks for the info on your cameras. Watched your Crestone and Bells videos. Awesome. You've got great content...I'm subscribed. Unfortunately for me, I only get out to Colorado once a year (Labor Day weekend). Next year (2022) we're gonna do the Crestone Traverse.

    This is immediately the best Capitol Peak video on YT.
    Two weeks ago, I did the Capitol Creek backpacking loop, and conquering Capitol Peak was enigmatic. My friend and I referred to it as Moby Dick and a climber that we saw as Ahab. Through this video, you really illuminated it for me.

    Oh, heck yeah!!! Have been waiting for this video, and it did not disappoint. Fantastic adventure and beautifully filmed. Thanks also for talking about the near fall with that crazy boulder break-away -- it really brought home the dangers of that beautiful place. And props to Spencer for keeping up with you on that K2 craziness! Great job.

      I really appreciate your compliment, I've spent over 2 years working on the camera and editing skills and it has been a very rewarding journey. Really, the big starting point is being comfortable in those places at all, then the camera can come out. . . When I get scared the camera goes away pronto. I would encourage you to check out some videos that also have drone footage, really adds to the 3rd dimension in a BIG way! Cheers Brother! Pettingel Peak was a super cool fun one I'd recomend!

      It is a must to do for sure but, be careful! I was thinking about climbing little bear on the class 4 North face and then doing the traverse next year if you’re interested. After getting hit by a rock in the hourglass I’ll bet it’s safer than that.

    How viable would it be to descend back on ridge-line? Do you think you took the most optimal route down? What is the optimal route down?

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Taylor thanks for the good words! I'll be very straight - trying to give a person routing advice, where I can't assess abilities or variables, is not smart for either of us, tho the questions are very good ones.

    • @taylorlinkfield4556
      @taylorlinkfield4556 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KarlDeckerPresents I understand. I free solo up to 5.2 in Altra lone peaks in the flatironettes around boulder CO. I suppose I could rephrase the question: How viable is it for YOU to descend the ridge? Asking because the other route seemed loose and crowded.
      I would honestly love to get out there with you. I'm quite fast ;)

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was quite loose on the lower north ridge so I’d personally want to avoid it. I find it lots easier to test holds while ascending. I don’t think there is a great way down but there were not too many places where you might get bombed by others above on the standard route, the ridge was most direct and super cool!

  • @acdc7551
    @acdc7551 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Could I climb that mountain? Yes, I probably could. However, the most important question is whether I would want to climb that mountain? No, I probably would not want to climb that mountain. I’m not afraid of heights in most situations, and I have a fair amount of survival knowledge in the mountains. However, I like to climb mountains for fun, and not to scare the ever living $hi- out of me!
