Hiking After Work in Las Cruces, New Mexico [Dripping Springs Natural Area] - 4K

  • Dripping Springs Natural Area is located in the western foothills of the Organ Mountains. With around five miles of relatively easy trails, picturesque views of the mountains, and a strong potential for wildlife sightings (I saw quite a few desert mule deer on my visit), it's the perfect place for hiking after work.
The landscape is primarily desert scrub and woodlands containing juniper and oak. The area is home to a variety of birds, including red-tailed hawks and golden eagles. In addition to the previously mentioned deer, visitors may catch a glimpse of coyotes or javelina.
Beyond natural beauty, the site holds historical significance, as well. Several preserved structures, with explanatory signage, give visitors a feel for what things may have been like in New Mexico in the 1800s.
As always, our hiking and backpacking videos are filmed in 4K Ultra HD. TH-cam will automatically tailor the video quality to your device, but we suggest viewing on your 4K-compatible television, or device, for best viewing results.
Please consider visiting our blog (outontrail.blogspot.com/) for more information on this trip, backpacking meal reviews, and photos!

We LOVED LOVED LOVED NM - it is such a unique and beautiful area! Some of those old buildings/houses/cottages were awesome - oh the history that must be there! The mule deer are so cool - we saw some in AZ and couldn't get over how relaxed they were like those that you saw! Thanks for taking us along MIke - makes us miss NM!

I really enjoy this part of the country, as well! If all goes according to plan, I'll be back there in a couple of weeks 😁 As for this particular spot, I did think the history of the settlements and land disputes was pretty interesting. And it was cool to be able to see some of the remaining structures. I was blown away by how chill the deer were... they don't act like that in the Midwest 😂 I also saw a javelina on this trail, which was a new sighting for me. Always a pleasure to have you along! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words!

Great video. I spent 8 days in the area above there hiking and camping in July of 1994 when I was a senior at NMSU. We had no trouble finding water with the local windmill ponds and ranches. I remember at sunset when bats would dive and drink from the wells and ponds. At night up there the view of the city is incredible. You could even see the glow of El Paso at night to the south. Thanks for the video and the memory!

I was there 32 years ago and am surprised to see the old structures look better now than then. We used to swim in that rock walled pond. The water was cold and it was really refreshing on a hot day after a long hike. It was a private ranch back then and the park service was in the process of taking it over. The ranch owners never charged a fee but people left trash and graffiti on the buildings.

What captivates me in this is how different it looks to Sweden, where I live. And how awesome it would be to join in for that hike! Thanks for the sharing :)

A pleasure to be able to share it with you! One of the things I enjoy about TH-cam is being able to check out parts of the world that I haven't visited and are very different from where I live. I look forward to checking out some of the sights in Sweden, over on your channel 👍

Thanks for checking it out! They have pretty strongly-worded signage discouraging visitors from entering the buildings, so I passed on going inside. The deer encounter was pretty awesome! I kept waiting for them to run away as I got closer, and they just... stood there looking back at me 😂
