  • Las Cruces is a fascinating city. It is New Mexico's second largest city and has a lot that makes it a unique city today. I lived in Las Cruces for about a year after high school so the city has a special place in my heart. In this series I briefly cover a city's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make it unique. Thanks for watching: Las Cruces Overview | An informative introduction to Las Cruces, New Mexico.

      Yes exactly Albuquerque or Phoenix or El Paso or Denver is more preferable but Las Cruces is still the future of big cities

    People are very healthy here. Messsilla has grown. I see the most beautiful skies. I love the blue skies. Every day. Those Organ mountains, they play sounds. I love it. Echoes. .. and it's relaxing.

    I have a lot of history in Las Cruces. My mom's family is from Mesilla (Acosta/Martinez) and they used to own a large part of Mesilla and what is now Four Points until one of my great grandfathers gambled most of it away when he started borrowing on land. My Auntie Lori dated one of the Stahmann boys of the Stahmann pecan orchards too. My mom and her siblings all grew up in four points in an adobe house my grandfather built. My Auntie Sonja's husband was contractor who built many of the houses east of Tortugas/the A mountain. Most of my family still lives down there and we still take part in the pilgrimage from Tortugas pueblo to up Tortugas mountain every December.

    I just love New Mexico's second largest city. It has palm trees everywhere. Upstate NM don't have any palms because it's too cold. That's what's amazing about New Mexico there is Rocky mountains to the north and palm trees to the South.

    There is a rest area just west of the city on I-10 as you start to drop down into the Mesilla valley. If you ever get a chance to see the perfect sunset fade behind you and the lights of the city coming up from that vantage point, you will not be disappointed. You can see a perfect view of the glowing Organ Mountains in the background draped by orange, violet, red and blue skies with the lights of the entire city below. It's amazing. When I attended engineering college in Cruces, I used to go out there just to see it then turn around and go back home to continue to study.

    Thanks for the video. Las Cruces was the nearest town when I was assigned to WSMR, Apr '62 to Apr '63. I spent a lot of time there hanging out at the Shamrock drive inn restaurant which was approximately East of Main and North of Lohman as I recall. We used to drag race on the unfinished portion of I-25 from Lohman Ave going north. There was another drive inn near Mesquite that we also frequented. Also frequented Sunland Race park near El Paso but in NM. I always had a vision of retiring in Las Cruces but that didn't work out.
    Thanks again for the memory refresh.

    I came here for NMSU for college. Omg I’m so glad to finally be leaving! Jesus, in the 2.5 years I’ve been here, had my key from stolen at a gym in broad daylight, my girlfriends gym bag stolen, uncles house robbed, fought crackheads being suspicious on our property late at night 3 times, at a ditch by our house, a crackhead overdosed and his friends took his drugs off his body and left him there dead all night, 2 times a drunk plowed through a concrete wall on our property, and CRACKHEADS EVERYWHERE! Screamed at me in my car countless times for no reason, and the icing on the cake (what made me decide to leave) was that a schizophrenic fentanyl addict killed a police officer in broad daylight with a kitchen knife! Permanently disturbed me, I’ll never be able to forget that tragedy. Prices here are ridiculous, and some jobs break federal law and actually pay below minimum wage. And the only way to be comfortable here is if you live in Sonoma ranch, the top 20% wealthiest population here. This place is turning into Albuquerque. I’m so relieved to finally be leaving this doomed city

    This video is extremely vague. He talks more about everything outside the city and very little about the city itself. Las Cruces has a lot to offer but almost none of it was presented. For example, if a home is not "designer magazine quality" it will not sell. That is because of low cost Hispanic labor costs. New Yorker's and Californians come in here, buy twice the house they had, and put 1/2 their profit money in the bank. They live for nothing by comparison. I went from 2500 sq. ft of total floor space in Florida to 6600 sq. ft. for less overall money. And their overall taxes and insurance are a tiny fraction of where they came from. This is done all the time. My total taxation/ RE burden went down by over 70 percent over Florida. No yard costs, no POA costs, cheap house insurance, cheap RE taxes, cheap community fees, very cheap golf club fees, and you name it. There simply is no comparison and yet my lifestyle went way up. I would put my home up against those of the top 10 percent in the entire U.S. any time. Who else has a 60 mile wide elevated view of the entire Rio Grande Valley from their back porch and in a gated community besides. I live like a king on a beer budget. My R.E. taxes alone are 1/3rd and my insurance costs are 1/4th. It goes on and on the same way. In other parts of the country everybody's hands are out. Not here.

    you think appearances matter and so skyline is important. c'mon kid (sorry to use the word kid but not sure i've heard a more cringe worthy viewpoint). a city can have a great "appearance" without a big skyline. in fact, i would say it makes a city appear nicer when it does not have a big skyline. substance should always outweigh appearances anyway.

    • @michaeldeierhoi4096
      @michaeldeierhoi4096 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me moving from Albuquerque to Las Cruces I have found it to be just the right size. It has most everything a large city offers, but it's much smaller. And Alamogordo is too small.

    • @ZacharyJohnson-kw9tg
      @ZacharyJohnson-kw9tg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are going off of size, in my opinion Tucson is almost the same size as Albuquerque so might be to big, and Alamogordo is just to small unless your into smaller cities
      BUT Cruces is a bigger than Alamogordo but smaller than Tucson so it might just be the perfect fit for you.
      So you should move to cruces, and I’m not just saying this because I live here and I want the city to keep growing more than it already is😁

    I visited LC last year and loved it! Awesome food, friendly people, and a cool farmers market downtown. Mesilla is a gem too. Under the right circumstances I'd love to retire there, especially if I could convince my son to move there also. Something else not mentioned in the vid is besides the beautiful Organs there are some decently high mountains to the northeast and northwest that are an easy drive and can offer some heat relief or a snow fix depending on the time of year. Oh, and LC has palm trees! Who'dve thought they'd find those in New Mexico?

    Lots to see there. We went to White Sands when I was a kid and I remember the cool air up at the mountain pass between White Sands & Las Cruces. We turned off the a/c and rolled down the windows. It really set my mind to thinking how this mountain air could be so different than the hot desert air below. I didn’t realize this city was the pecan capital! The space port is a bonus for this city. Spaceport has some beautiful architecture. ****So….If you do some more cities in the 100k-200k range, research Akron, Ohio. They actually have a surprisingly nice skyline! Not sure why…maybe a historical relic from their steel mill days of yesteryear.

  • @FreshGrey-pm4vw
    @FreshGrey-pm4vw ปีที่แล้ว

    Anybody moving here should know that this city is full of contradictions. Although beautiful, the lack of services can be difficult. Its hard to find honest mechanics and sometimes the hospital has faulty a/c and cannot operate their operating rooms. You may not be comfortable shopping in different strip malls due to panhandlers. The homeless are cropping up everywhere in encampments and in various neighborhoods so you should always be aware of your surroundings due to attacks and crime. The food here is delicious and its not a loud busy city so depending on where you live it can be a peaceful place. It isnt close to any large city (el paso is not a city I go to) so you will have to drive 3 hours to get to Tucson, 4 hrs to Albuquerque. As a border town, the crime is noteworthy and police do their best but cant address the burglaries as well as we would want. Just today in broad daylight a pretty scary guy looking for money approached me as I was finishing washing my car, I jumped in and got out of there. Looked out of it, maybe on drugs, IDK. The mountains are stunning and so gorgeous. Just be cautious, even in the day time. For the best info sign up on FB- las cruces community watch. People post everything all day - accidents, crimes, events, good deeds, etc.

      I think it is funny how some people who have lived here all their life can’t wait to leave. For example as soon as my parents both retire they are moving to somewhere in Texas. For them it is not that it is a bad town but that they have both lived here all their lives and want to try something new. I will say that Las Cruces does lack in some fun activities for the more younger people. But I do believe that in the future they will be adding laser tag and will be adding bowling back to cruces, so there is that 😁. There is quite a bit of crime here but I feel like there is that every where you go sooo…. All in all it IS a great retirement city and in my opinion a great city all together.

      Tornadoes are generally caused by cold fronts interacting with warm. moist air doming from the Gulf of Mexico. That why most are in the southeast (MS, AL, LA, and plains states (TX,OK, ARK). Far west TX and NM are generally too "dry" for tornado formation.

      I lived in Albuquerque for more than ten years before moving to LC and they have heavy traffic but still nothing like truly big cities like Phoenix or LA. To complain about heavy traffic in Las Cruces seems absurd to me. You couldn't have lived in LC to say that.

      The traffic isn’t that bad in cruces but the only trafficy areas of cruces is where most of the restaurants and stuff are. But that’s how it is in pretty much every other city. But Las Cruces does have a lot of 2 lane roads and highways and sometimes they do have some traffic but nothing to complain much about. We have 2 3 lane highways that get traffic but not that much either.
      I think cruces is a great place to live especially since it is a bigger city but not to big of a city like La or New York

      @@joez3706 No it isn’t. Maybe if you’re from California or New York but to most of the country it’s very pricey. Especially when combined with the average income in New Mexico.

      @pulsatingsausageboy2076 The average home in Las Cruces is in the $200,000 range. Average cost of a house nationally averages well over $300,000 and of course many locations are double and triple that. Many people retire here so they bring $ here they made somewhere else. I recently bought a home here in the Sonoma Ranch neighborhood (very nice area) for $300.
