- In this video, I work on one of my pieces and talk through how letting go of a part or element of a painting - no matter how much we like it - is sometimes necessary to serve the whole. #oilpainting #abstractart #paintingprocess

Watching that application of paint to increase the complexity of colour and the cloudy glow of it was exactly what I needed to see Marianne . . . Thanks you. I was surprised the you worked two layers in with a cloth without the first being dry though and I can see I need to try it.
Hi Wendy! This is in person workshop week for me so less time online... 😉Since the under layer of paint was dry I could work two wet thin layers of paint together on top of each other to build more color depth. Hope you tired the technique!
To watch an abstract piece's build is fascinating. The determinations to subsume a previous part to color was quite illuminating.
Many thanks for your comments! Glad this was illuminating...
it was wonderful to see you continue on with this piece.....i look forward to the next few steps :)
Thank you Linda! Right now it's been put out to pasture for awhile 😉
Wow. I've just found your channel recently. I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your process with us - it's so interesting - and helpful too. It's looking great so far, excited to see more of it!
Thanks so much Amber! It's a windy twisty journey and I will share along the way as this painting continues to develop...
What do you do with the sides?
Hello! I tape the sides and when the painting is finished I take the tape off and leave the wood sides bare and unvarnished. If the painting sells, I ask the collector how they would like the sides - some choose unvarnished, some choose to frame. I rarely paint the sides. Hope this helps!
