I’ve worked as a freelance model for about 9 years now and I’m only able to charge $100/hr, even being based in San Francisco, because most photographers who hire models directly don’t have as large of a budget as you described.
99% of time there is no such budget for models as they mentioned in their video. Most of the time this is the budget for the whole shoot 😂 100/h is a decent pay for this kind of job. Most models are paid less
This is so helpful, I just started a new job and I'll be needing to hire models myself for the first time and I've been so nervous since I've never actually worked with one before. Thank you for the full transparency on numbers, I know that the numbers change a lot depending on a lot of factors, but just having someone say SOMETHING publicly in regards to price is so helpful.
Thank you for providing more info on the more legal and contractual side of things! The photography youtube space is definitely lacking in this area. Would love to know how do you usually have people sign the contracts. Is it digital or a specific software? What counts as an actual signature when using digital?
I just did my first portrait shoot, it was an older woman and conditions were not ideal and it was completely free as we just wanted to test our equipment. I want to do more !
If you’re planning to sell prints of the shoot, and you have team on set, would you just pay the stylists, muas etc their hourly rate? Or would you need to pay extra?

100 is on par with the prices in the northeast. I’ve chatted with models with hundreds of thousands of IG followers that also charge around that.

It was off camera lighting, nice 60x60 softbox, and a sigma 35mm f1.4. It was a rainy day and we made it look like daylight with* just one light.
