You just brought back a memory. 73 years ago I would go to my local movie theater. Santa sat on the stage. We children were invited to tell him what we wanted for Christmas gifts. Then we were given an orange and a small box of candies. It was a memorable time. 😊
I just LOVE this whole video! OJ, marmalade, candied orange peel - that’s a good winter celebration right there! When I was growing up near Lake Erie (far north), we had cousins who lived in Florida. Every winter they sent boxes of oranges and grapefruits from their own trees. What a treat!
That's a great price, on oranges, they are $8.99 for a bag that size. A few years ago: I did a bunch of candied orange peels, then dipped them in dark chocolate, yummmm!! ❤ Great video
I recently found your channel. My grandma was Southern and still the best cook in the world. Times are tough and sometimes I struggle with how to feed my family of 5. You have reminded me that stretching a dollar is possible. There is comfort in your videos.
I also zest some of the oranges (or lemons) and keep in freezer bags for recipes that call for zest. I am blessed to have a lemon tree in my back yard. I also freeze lemon juice in ice cube trays and store in freezer bags and also frozen lemon slices, perfect for iced tea or ??
It’s awesome that you are getting your sons in the kitchen & teaching them “all the things” they need to know to develop a love of cooking. NOW, just get them doing those dishes!!!😂😂😂
Goodness gracious!!! I could watch your videos for hours on end. What great teenagers you guys are. It takes patience to do that candy…and in that amount…. Wow. I have never attempted to make orange marmalade, but now want to try it. I am with Braden I could drink Orange Juice all day long. Thanks so much Brooke and family for being you💜💜💜💜
Thank you for showing this my mom loves orange marmalade at 89 she has everything so I have been stocking up her home I think several jars will be another prep item and something to put a smile on her face
Plus those giant peppermint sticks.😋You know that kind that grandma had to break with a hammer lol. We'd eat peppermint with saltine crackers oooo so good and how sweet they tasted together. All at night and smuggled up under a hand made blanket in front of the fireplace.oh and hot chocolate to sip on...ooh how I miss those things with my grandma and aunt..I do the same things with my grandbabies. They love it.✨😋 I want to make as many memories with them so they can pass it down to their grandbabies someday💜✨🕊️🙏🕯️💜
@mandyshaw4097 My other set of grandparents always got the big peppermint stick, my grandfather would chop it up. They also had chocolate drops and divinity
You are like a candy...Always ready to splendide a good moment and to have fun ! Your team shows the power of the family, and what must be important in life...😊❤.
You are doing your kids a great service with this. Not only are they having the joy of the day together with doing but they will know how to do things. A great joy for mom too!
I've been wanting to learn how to can, but I've been intimidated to do so. Thanks so much for this. This makes it not so scary. I'm definitely going to try this!
That orange marmalade is a great idea for giving out for Christmas gifts.. I do that with the jam's and jellys I make everyone loves them and they even safe the jars for me ❤ ...I love this video and thank y'all..
Another great family video staring Braydon and Momma in the books! Everything looked so delicious! I’m with Braydon, there is nothing like a chilled glass of fresh OJ!! Marmalade looks great, the added lemon sounds good.
Thanks Brooke. I love that you are teaching your children these skills. Candied peel makes me think of Christmas. My grandma would made candied peel as a treat and would often add it to cheap store bought marmalade to make it thick shred.
I have and will never can anything myself, but your video was so interesting! Love that Ryder and Brady assist you in these canning projects. Your explanations of the various steps, techniques, and reasons are excellent! Very well done and entertaining!
Braydon, you and your mom had a big job ahead of you, and you really stepped up! There's nothing like OJ that is not from concentrate. Yum! The dehydrated orange 🍊 slices decorating the jars are so pretty. Brooke, I've seen dehydrated orange slices on a garland and used during the holidays as a decoration. Those are very pretty, too.
First thing: I am not disputing your instructions just sharing from my own personal experience as the daughter of a mom and dad who canned fresh food frequently. They never routinely de-bubbled and most often didn’t remove the rings. They were married over 65 years. None of us died from food poisoning!! That was just the old way. The reason the rings stayed on was to keep from bumping the flat and dislodging it!
You go bestie and Braydon! Those recipes were poppin'... Even with the sugar the candy has to be better than candy with corn syrup, Brooke. Thank you for sharing and be blessed always, my Southerland Squad! xoxo
I canned some mandarin last year. The pith, even though I cleaned them very well, made them a touch bitter. I love them, though. I suppose you could add more sugar, but I didn't want to. 😅
Thank you for sharing this valuable info. I've never heard of canning oj b4. Makes sense though. Oj is so expensive and full of added sugar so I don't buy it anymore. My mom always did the bathwater canning as she was afraid of the pressure cookers. She always left the lid rings on after processing. It makes more sense to remove them .I learned many new things. 😊❤
I was wondering if canning citrus juice was worth the cost, but this proves it. Value added use of "left over" peels. Gift or sell extra marmalade to cover cost of product for our use & supplies.😊
I just started watching you . I love your personality you are so sweet. The boys are all so nice . Love the things you make. So glad I found you. Watching from Massachusetts
I love that you're teaching the boys to can. They're going to have one heck of a time finding a wife that can even begin to be like their mama though lol. Seriously though I really do enjoy this kind of series. Good jab and God bless!
I've never attempted to can preserves but my mother always did back in the day. Homemade jams, bakeapple, blueberry, partridgeberry, salted beef and cod. Its work and you are to be commended taking the time to provide for your family. You are a good role model for your kids ...God bless you....Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
Best way to save time and stove top space is to sanitize your jars and lids in the over at 200 degrees for 20 minutes! This is the only way I do mine and have never had an issue
Such sweet boys, love seeing those guys! Dusty wasn't convincing but maybe he's not a sweets kinda guy:) Ive made candied orange and lemon peel with non sugar sweetener and it turns out great as well. Its an erythritol monk fruit blend, super good! Thanks for sharing!
I read somewhere that you can use the hull of the orange, fill with oil or wax and make candles. It will fill the room with orange smells. Haven’t tried it but I plan to.

Orange marmalade on toast is like a dose of sunshine on a cold winter day.

As a middle child myself…I LOVE Braden. Must say I don’t like picking a favorite child but…
When I was growing up it was Tang. The drink of the astronauts. I know dated myself. 😊😊😊 I love orange marmalade as well.

Oh, I envy you that you have a lemon tree! You don't waste a bit, either. Zest is nice to have on hand for recipes or a garnish. 🍋🍋🍋
If you dip orange candy halfway into chocolate you can have two types of of candy!
It’s awesome that you are getting your sons in the kitchen & teaching them “all the things” they need to know to develop a love of cooking. NOW, just get them doing those dishes!!!😂😂😂
Orange marmalade is my absolute favorite
The way Ryders eyes brighten up with Joy as he tastes them 😊❤
Goodness gracious!!! I could watch your videos for hours on end.

You can make tea from the peel just boil and add sugar to Easter 👍🏻
I love you do separate videos with each of your boys! They all get equal love! That’s how I was raised! 💞 You will have 3 great men Brooke!
Santa every Christmas put a navel orange in each of our stockings! I love your Friday canning episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for showing this my mom loves orange marmalade at 89 she has everything so I have been stocking up her home I think several jars will be another prep item and something to put a smile on her face
Boy that was a lot of Love(work)! It is so awesome you are teaching these things to your sons! They will be great husbands one day!
I love this!!! I would love to see a Zero food waste series
Crazy excited. I binge your videos all the time. I love the zero waste. Would love to see you tackle gluten free. Please. Y’all be blessed ❤
You guys are so cute! Don’t ever stop!
You are a good teacher!
Awesome job 👏. Momma keep teaching them boys ❤
I’ve never seen anyone make candied orange peels before! Looks delishious😊
I also think oranges smell like Christmas. My grandparents had bowls of oranges, tangerines, and whole nuts to crack every December.
Plus those giant peppermint sticks.😋You know that kind that grandma had to break with a hammer lol. We'd eat peppermint with saltine crackers oooo so good and how sweet they tasted together. @@Suleclo oh yes id forgot about those, it's been so long ago. Those were the greatest times to. 💜
What a beautiful video Brooke ❤ I love how you both spend time together in the kitchen 🤗 Beautiful memories 💯❤🤗
A labor of love is an understatement. Anyone who receives a gift from you is blessed. I love watching what you do.

You are doing your kids a great service with this. Not only are they having the joy of the day together with doing but they will know how to do things. A great joy for mom too!
Brooke, love watching you can so many different things. I didn't think of canning orange juice ❤
I've been wanting to learn how to can, but I've been intimidated to do so. Thanks so much for this. This makes it not so scary. I'm definitely going to try this!
I bet your house smells like orange Heaven !!! I've never seen anyone use the peels before. Thanks for sharing!!

I love what you did to the cabinets
I love making candied orange peels. SOO good.
I've never seen ORANGE Marmalade canned before. What a nice how to video. Thanks Breydon and Mama. Work is made lighter with two sets of hands.😊
I LOVE how far these went...NO waste & everything looks SO good 💝. Been years since I've canned but boy, you give me the want to again!
Have you ever made pickled watermelon rind? It is so good

I had the same thing with mandarins. They are a bit bitter to me. My plan is next time I will can them in a light syrup instead of just water.
@ginco5203 Good idea. I'll try that. Thank you. 😉
I meant to say mandarins, I edited it.
This was such a great video and so well explained. I learned exactly how to make juice, marmalade and peels. Thank you so much Brooke. 😊
You are so welcome!
I'm addicted to your channel. ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
You’re right on, a labor of love! I bet your entire house smelled like an orange grove. 😊 That is one more use….. air freshener. ❤️
