  • The Toyota Prius V ticks quite a few boxes. It's a hybrid, so it's fuel efficient. It has seven seats, so it's family-friendly. And it's affordable, and comes with lots of safety equipment as standard.
If those things are what gets your motor running, the Toyota Prius V 2018 model could be for you.

Our 2012 has been amazing with our 3 young kids and occasional friends. Does the annual Melbourne to Gold Coast trip under 5LPH. Holds all our camping gear. Larger on the inside than Klugar. Has conservitively saved us $9000 in fuel over our old VZ wagon (12LPH). The best car we've ever owned. Will happily replace the battery in it and when it's 10yo. Still has HUD, Pitch and bounce suspension, 6mm on brake pads, and was the 2nd cheapest p/t 7 seater when we bought it.

I would echo those thoughts. It is not exciting but as a reliable, practical usable family transport for kids, kid's friends and dogs, it does the job with no fuss. It's quick enough in the real world where cops issue speeding tickets and frugal enough to offset the rising fuel prices ... I rent a sports car when I want to go and have fun. The servicing on this is cheaper than my old V6 Toyota too plus the Prius V doesn't eat the tyres :)

Love this car, using since 2014..reliable..economic.. Sometimes lower fuel consumption lower than what the company offer.. Lots of space.. Third row space is better than most SUVs.

Thanks for the review Matt! A good insight into the Prius V, which I have been curious about now for a while. I get it the whole bland thing that you young fella's don't rate so much, a bit like the old Toyota Avalon - A car for Dame Edna fans, but super reliable. But I gotta tell you, I really do love the Toyota hybrids - Practical, reliable and frugal!! A great piece of Japanese engineering with Toyota reliability. It would be really great if Toyota Australia sold the Hybrid Kluger here in Oz. That would be really amazing I think.
From a servicing point of view, the 2ZR-FXE engine should be very easy engine to service, provided genuine filters and fluids are used with a good quality engine oil (for example, Mobil 1), and looks like even less maintenance under the bonnet to service than the 2ZR-FE engine in my Corolla. The new M20A engine coming soon in the new Corolla should be really cool. I have recently driven my father's 2017 Toyota Corolla Hybrid, and I was really impressed with the handling over my 2011 Corolla Hatchback (albeit, mine has Michelin PS3 tires fitted, ha ha!). Maybe one day I'll purchase a Hybrid Toyota, and yes I am a 40 something dad who has always been a massive Toyota fan, regardless if they are bland or not. Keep up the good work Matt! :-)
    Regards,
    Nick Bordujenko.

Thanks for the great feedback, Nick. I think you can expect Toyota Australia to make hybrid models more widely available across its model range as time goes on. The next Corolla and RAV4 models will both have hybrid versions, and we can foresee a future where Prius V isn't the only way to get a hybrid seven-seater from Toyota...
      Cheers

Rennie Ash Ha Yes first my reaction was "jeez, what size phone do you have?" This reviewer must have a compulsion to use storage areas that ONLY match the shape of items. It must be a specific type of OCD. "I don't have an item this shape!"

I had a Prius C back in 2015, I found the hybrid electric drive up to 60kmph a bit gimmicky. Went to trade in/sell, here in WA the dealerships turned me down, they didn’t want the Prius. Nice review but, 👌

versitile seating arrangements is another plus for this car. everything else is very ordinary.

Perfectly appropriate reaction & response for the car. His enthusiasm level personified the car to a T. It also perfectly reflected Toyotas clear lack of enthusiasm for its expected customers with this 'new' model. This rear half of this car might possibly the most visually bland, compromised & fudged design currently for sale new.

Correct. However, I don't know how the viewer has a V. from what I heard the V was never made into a 7 seater--only the alpha and the plus are. So technically you could still buy a prius alpha or a prius plus from Europe and have it sent to the US, but the V is discontinued as of 2017.@@raafidvlogs
