    This is a very inspiring story, I was diagnosed at age nine and had my ablation on February 1st of 2016 and had an extension on the operation resulting in a few small incisions I spent a couple days after surgery in the hospital after a serious UTI and kidney infection from one of my 5 catheters. It was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through and sharing my story with others has been difficult especially being in middle school, missing school, being in the hospital, and being sure to stay healthy and free of infection while at school were all hard for me my episodes were pretty bad and almost all of them I had to go to the ER for. The highest my heart reached was 378 and I remember that experience and adenosine, and how very scary that was, when I see these videos I like to hear others stories people often tell me (like my annoying siblings) that it isn't a big deal and that "its not like I had cancer" but I personally have never met anyone else with SVT and hearing others stories is slightly comforting because I like to know that I am not the only one because it sure feels like it and sometimes I feel like I think about my SVT too much, my surgery was a long, hard, and pretty shitty process and I still have lots of palpitations and issues and a lot of times I feel like it wasent worth it but, thank you for sharing and being brace and I really enjoyed this video and hearing how you have managed with your own SVT because like every medical condition, everyone's experience is very different, thank you

    They want me to try Metoprolol 25mg time release 1/day before ablation surgery, aftere I asked cardiologist for ablation. I am 64 and have had SVT for about 5 years. I have been using vagal maneuver and deep breathing. What is your negative side effect from this treatment, as I have not taken it yet? My blood pressure is normally 120/80 normal except of course when the surprise episodes occur, you know what those are like.

    This may or may not be related . Maybe you can give an opinion since you have personal experience. Anyway one night I was sitting on the couch watching tv, it was probably around midnight. I was getting tired so I got up went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth so I could go to bed. Well after brushing my teeth I had this strange feeling come over me . As weird as that may sound, but it was a feeling like , you know something wasn't right, I tried to ignore it and I walked into my room and like from out of nowhere I felt my heart beating out of my chest . Except it wasn't like from doing any type of exercise . It was like something set it off and it was racing out of control. Well I tried to remain calm and take a few deep breaths , but that didn't help so I began to panic which made it ten times worse and I felt out of breath like I just ran two miles. I was terrified because it was beating so fast and it seemed like it wasn't going to stop. So I decided to not take any risks and call 911. But before I could get the numbers dialed I noticed It was beginning to slow back down. And I started to feel a lot better , although I felt like all of my energy was drained and I could barely keep my eyes open. So I called the ER instead and they told me to come in asap . So I went to the ER and I explained to them what happened and they immediately did an ekg , drew blood and checked my thyroid and magnesium, blood sugar etc.. everything came back normal. So they did an echocardiogram where they actually watched my heart on screen for the next hour and a half. And the doctor said it looked perfect. No sign of heart disease or heart damage , no clots, no sign of previous heart attack or one in the making. So they asked me If I suffer from anxiety which I answered yes from time to time. I've had anxiety attacks before but not often. And I have usually kept them under control by positive thoughts and deep breathing. Then I was asked if me or anyone in my family had Afib , or tachycardia , or mitral flutter/prolapse, and I said no. I have heard of Afib but not svt. So I went to a cardiologist whom I told what happened and he looked at my echocardiogram results, listened to my heart and wasnt concerned , he said " this heart palpitations you had must have concerned you enough to come here. And it made me aggravated and i thought to myself " why no shit it concerned me more like scared the daylights out of me. He was basically stumped because every test they had given me was great. So he had me wear this heart monitor for 48 hours in the hopes that it might catch something. But highly doubtful because I haven't had it happen again ever since. And that's been atleast 4 months ago. Sorry about all the rambling but I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

      Hi Chris, I can give you my opinion don't stop trying to seek treatment. My daughter went through the same thing when she was about 3 or 4 and they never could pin point what was going on because it happened so randomly. She would be sitting watching TV and her heart would race. She would tell me that it her heart was "beeping really hard and fast". Her heart literally felt like it was about to beat out of her chest. They tryed to say it was anxiety or she was doing it for attention (which really pissed me off). So needless to say we kind of let it go because it quit happening as frequently other than when she exercised and she didn't tell us because she thought it was normal. She is now 14 and recently had a blackout spell which alerted her Primary doctor. She quickly sent for a referral to see a pediatric cardiologist who ordered an echocardiogram, EKG, and sent her home on a 48hr monitor. The next week he decided to send her home on another monitor because they caught 4-5 beats that were very rapid. On the two week monitor she was playing basketball and was feeling fine however the heart monitor company called and was very concerned her heart rate was 288 beats/min. They extended the monitor to one month. This happened again two weeks later after being started on medicine. She was referred to another heart specialist who told us it was SVT. She'll get the ablation procedure to fix her svt in the next several weeks. Don't stop trying to catch it no matter how annoyed the doctor gets find a new one if that's what it takes.

    • @thomasmedia560
      @thomasmedia560 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you , it wouldn't be necessarily crazy to think it was anxiety because not only have I had a few panic attacks , my mom has lived with it for a while And she's in her 50's. The first time it happened, I told my mom about it and she said she had a similar situation when she was in her twenties, her heart would randomly race for no apparent reason. But doctors, cardiologist couldn't figure it out for the life of them, couldn't catch anything. Which she said eventually those spells went away and hasn't had any problems since then. Idk it pisses me off how I had that episode of whatever it was, went to the ER , had an ecg and EKG done and they said everything looked great and acted like it was all in my head . Anxiety or not , it really did happen. My heart felt like it was running a Marathon, and I was a little short of breath , and my arms and hands were tingling like they were asleep, and I had cold flashes, and felt like I was going to throw up. And then when my heart gradually returned to normal I was so drained and couldnt keep my eyes open. I went to the cardiologist who sat and talked to me , looked at my blood work and echo , listened to my heart for about ten minutes , and said he doesn't see any cause for concern. As in nothing that's going to kill me ( in other words) so he sent me home with a monitor and I wore it for 3 or 4 days I don't remember. And what's weird is while I was wearing it, I did feel the sensation of my heart starting to race , but when I got my results in they were completely normal. As much as id hate to have another episode , I sort of wish I would so maybe then I could get to the ER and have them documented so they can get a better idea. And then can tell me if they are anxiety related or not.

    • @thomasmedia560
      @thomasmedia560 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because If this is somehow svt ( because I seriously don't think it is afib) , I will get an ablation done any time. I am not scared, actually I would want it done since there is high success rates and a very very good chance that it will be cured and I'll never have to deal with it again.

    2. Have you noticed if your resting heart rate has changed since the ablation? Ive read that sometimes it gets a bit faster afterwards.
    3. How did you manage to lay on your back after? I worry about that part of it.

      Kelly Kneaper hey hun, sure! 1.) No, I was still asleep/ out of it when they took the catheters out. I'd imagine it's similar to takin an IV out though. 2.) I guess... my resting heart rate is around 70-80 most of the time. I am having random bouts of it going up to the 140s, but as of now my cardiologist says it isn't in SVT and is okay. I'm beginning to suspect POTS. 3.) Laying flat was the HARDEST part. I tried to sleep the first hour, then they continually raised me each hour for 4 hours. I had family there to keep me busy and was all about my soda and wawa pretzel. I crossed my ankles at one point and the nurse threatened me to stay overnight, so I just kept my shit together and stayed flat til they started the discharge papers. 4.) I had some chest pain/ discomfort right afterward, so he checked and everything was ok. he did say it was normal though, as he had just worked on the heart and pissed it off. Hope this helps!! ♡ good luck! -amy.

    It seems when we grow up with SVT, a fast heartbeat now and again is as normal as getting hiccups now and again. I am having my second ablation tomorrow. The first was electronic and this one will be cryo (freezing). Before the 1st ablation my episodes had become so frequent and would go on for hours before my husband would insist I go to the ER. My 1st adenosine treatment, probably 25 years ago, made me feel like I was sinking into a hole that I envisioned as my grave, lol. I once had a doctor tell me I didn't have to go to the ER when this happened. For my next episode I refused to go. Eventually, I was limp but conscious, and my husband & 2 young sons had a tough time getting me into the car. After they converted me at the ER I got yelled at for waiting so long. The next time I saw that doctor (who was filling in during my doctor's maternity leave) he told me not to wait. Ha ha, he must have gotten a lecture, too. Too late to make a long story short, but during the ablation, they stimulate an episode and then zap it. After the swelling goes down they repeat. I must have had a bunch of little short circuits. Eventually, the swelling wasn't going down. My EP told me if I still was having symptoms he would do another ablation. I did still have episodes but they were milder and I was able to stop them. Recently, they have become stronger and I can't always stop them. Two trips to the ER in the last 3 months convinced me to have another ablation. I am also one who doesn't want to go to doctor/hospital. In my experience, having one ablation will keep me out of the ER for years to come. Worth it. I was in my 30's for the 1st one. Now I am in my late 50's. I hope it is just as easy this time in spite of my advanced age. I highly recommend having this procedure done if SVT affects the quality of life at any time. I will update this if I find it's different for OLD people.

      How did you do after the ablation Vicki? I'm 60 and scheduled for ablation in August after an episode of SVT that sent me to the ER.

      Sophia Geralis it's up to you. has to be a personal choice. it wasn't a big deal for me once I woke up and realized it was fine. being off the meds is the best part:) but you have to be Co for table with your cardiologist. I cannot stress that enough :) I went through 3 or 4 until I found one I liked, and was able to do it.
