I'm a little late to this one, but a Happy New Year to you as well! I hope you've been doing well. I really enjoyed this. You have such a nice set up and cool coffee cup! That is quite a haul and so many great covers! That's cool that you work(ed) at a local comic shop. I always thought that would be a cool job. My Wife is the same, very thoughtful and tries and really does good with gift giving. We are like you in the way of not going overboard with all that either. The Iron Man cover art is really cool! You referenced Enemy Mine. It was one of my favorite movies growing up and I must say that I am with you when it comes to the varied things that in a sense make up this hobby (the music, movies, toys, games, etc. and even the types). Anyway, I hope all is well your way. ~Eric

The ones those dealers are going after by over pricing the pre code horror books from Charlton, ACG, etc. are those who haven't been in the hobby long enough to know better than to pay that price. Enjoyed the videos. Love old comics!

All the comics you presented today is great. I went to a comic book show last Sunday, I have one dealer that has a lot of Gold Key/Dell, Charlton, DC and other Independent comics from the Silver and Bronze Age in mid to low grade that are priced very reasonable. I got Kona monarch of monster isle, Tarzan, Korak, and Sgt. Rock, very good day I had there. But you are right most other dealers the prices was unrealistic. But you just have to be patient and continue the search

Yes Boyette is very underrated. Skilled in various mediums and nice draftsmanship. He wasn't as dynamic as many but I really like his work.

The concept of "prototypes" is ridiculous. If you go by that route, Mr. Bones from Infinity Inc. is a Spawn prototype, because his design was also made by Todd McFarlane, his costume is black and he has a flowing red cape. Saying that the "mutant face" in Amazing Adult Fantasy #14 is a Professor X prototype is nonsensical, because the X-Men were created by Kirby, and that story in particular was drawn by Ditko. A lot of this language comes from the early comic price guides, and we have to remember that the first people to create price guides were also the first people to own comic shops. It was advertising pointing at their investment. What's surprising is how many collectors, no matter how old, experienced and knowledgeable, go along with this. Showcase #4 starting the Silver Age is accepted history only because those early guides said so.

Very cool haul video. I know about John Adkins Richardson. I own the same comic. He was an art history professor, perhaps in the Midwest. He did the Maxor of Cirod stories in a big fanzine from the 1970s called Rocket's Blast Comic Collector. The book you have is a collection from that run. I first heard of Richardson when I was a teenager, reading through his book on doing comics titled, The Complete Book of Cartooning. It is still my favorite how to on comics. A few years later in university, my drawing professor (who hated comics) told me about his professor, and it happened to be Richardson. He recalled how his mentor was getting into the comics, which was something my drawing instructor just couldn't understand. Richardson also did a single issue of an independent comic with Richard Corben called Fever Dreams. I think it's mostly Corben work though. Besides Maxor and his book on cartooning, I don't think he did anything else in comics, although he did write an art history book or two.
