    I’m only seeing this now... I moved to Spiddal in 2009, am originally from Paris, France... And, well, I don’t want to say how old I am on here, but in the early 1960s, I wasn’t even born... My PARENTS didn’t even know each other at that point in time, and neither of them could have envisioned I would ever be born, let alone that I would move to Spiddal much later on in time... An incredible video! Míle buíochas as ucht seo a roinnt linn!!!

    Having just come back to Sydney after spending 2 weeks in Spiddal with the family, this was a gift to watch. I went to school with Sean Tammin's son. Funny to see his old man eating the phatai here.

    Never heard of the Notie hostel building - idoes it contribute to the ospideal name? Is Mairtin Thornton the boxer? Interesting that the perfomers are mostly old 'uns, even in the early '60s.

    • @RonanBrowneMusic
      @RonanBrowneMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well spotted Shtove! Notie was a spelling error - it should have read Note not Notie! Thanks for the clarification.

      @RonanBrowneMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And yep, that is Máirtín Thornton, the famous boxer.

    • @RonanBrowneMusic
      @RonanBrowneMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s gas that you think they’re old - most of the players and singers are in their 30s. Even Máirtín Thornton would only be around 50. And Mártan is a boy.
      Perhaps modern eyes see old people because of how they are dressed, plus th’aul black & white. But these are young performers. Notice Kate Sheáin Tom doesn’t sing; Tom Pháidín Tom isn’t even there. This piece of film is not about the old “custodians of the Culture”. It is all about the youth!!!

      @@RonanBrowneMusic Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of the singers (apart from the little fella), but maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on receding hairlines! I'm still confused about the hostel at 1:18 - when was it demolished?
      ps. I guess Mr Conlon wouldn't mind being described as Feisty.

      Begob...
      What’s your name Mr/Mrs Begob? I must be fairly old fashioned myself that I wish to know that!
      Yes, you raise a good question there. I’ll ask Amelia Conlon when it was demolished. She’ll also have some better info about people’s ages.
      Haha, I’d say Festy would be happy with any name if he could walk the streets of Spiddal once more!! Having often heard about him as a child, and knowing my parents had met him often, I was amazed to find he was still alive when I came to Spiddal in the year 2000 and enjoyed a few years with him before he died.

      Jacques Croughs, your English is fine. Irish music is always making those lovely memories. Irish music, Irish people and Irish culture. We are lucky to be ourselves. Those memories are still being made every day in this modern time. They are different memories, by different people, and they appear modern to people who remember the past, but they will become old memories in time, and fresh memories will be made in all the years in between. The secret to success, in my humble opinion, is to appreciate living in the moment, remember the past with a warm heart, and be respectful of the future.
