    Have had this now for just over two months and whilst it started out brilliantly with at various points receiving 250mb speeds, have now been struggling with download speeds of between 1mb and 90mb, fluctuating throughout the day - meaning I’ve had to end work calls prematurely and unplug and re plug in the router several times throughout the day to get the speeds back up. Upload even on a good day will only ever hit a max of 5mb. This is not good. I’ve tried speaking with customer services but they’re even more clueless than I am and repeatedly tell me to go visit a Three store to get more help. It’s certainly not the signal in the area as my phone fares far better and occasionally acts as a tether for my computer. I am deeply unimpressed by this. It is NOT reliable.

    I live in high rise flats, landline broadband, was around 15 mbs but the last month or so it’s just got really bad, I got this to try out, very impressed, far better than the one I had, phoned up and cancelled the line broadband, as contract is due next month. Great decision to get this. Kids are happy too stable internet, which means no nagging to me lol.

    For anyone thinking of getting this for a PS5. I did it and I haven't looked back. My old internet was 14mbps down, 1up at 27mS ping. Now I get 700mbps down, 70up and 33mS ping. Despite the slight drop in ping performance, this is unnoticeable on fast paced car or shooting games and friends have said that my connection is always seamless.
    My home is 2100sqft and I get wifi6 through the lot of it.
    Make sure you get Three to remove any adult filter if TV apps like Sky won't work. If you have further problems, I have a screenshots on my phone from an IT boffin who helped me log into the routers settings. He seemed much more qualified than the reps at Three.

    I have just read your review and found it helpful for me. Unfortunately this 5g broadband from Three is not yet available in my area. I took out a 24 month contract for Three`s 4g broadband in January and am very pleased with it, i think this is the way forward for broadband, no wires or cables and the flexibility to put the router where you want it. Also the signal around the house is very good and all my smart stuff works well. When 5g becomes available i intend to upgrade. Thanks for your honest and comprehensive review. i have subscribed to your channel.

      I forgot to ask earlier. How are you finding the 5g signal strength around your property compared to the 4g signal. Just curious as I know that the 5g has a shorter range. I understand that the size of property and construction type all comes into play regarding how good the signal will be. I have been very surprised how good the 4g signal is around my fairly large brick construction house. I would say I am about a mile and a half from the nearest tower but not in an unobstructed line of sight.

      Good question, unfortunately since we have quite good 5G signal throughout the house we weren't able to test that. If the Three website says that this router will work at your address, you should be good. @@kevl1747 So I've learned a bit more about the 5G routers in general, they will all fail-back to 4G LTE if they can't maintain 5G - that's just a fundamental part of their design.
      In addition, if you can physically see that your iphone is receiving 5G at home - that's all the proof you need.
      You don't need to go through Three's automated system (where you put in a post code and they tell you if you can get it or not) - browse their deals, phone them up and make the order. Not sure why mine isn't connecting, any tips? I plug in, type in the details on the bottom of the hub, but it just doesn't connect. The network light stays red, and the signal lights don't turn on at all. Theoretically I should be in a 5g area.

    • @broadbandsavvy
      @broadbandsavvy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean that you can't connect to the WiFi network, or that once you connect you can't get signal ("no internet connection" or similar)? If the former, it's worth trying a wired connection or other devices. If the latter, try to put it somewhere else in the house. It could also be that the network just happens to be down in your area right now, although that's unlikely. If all else fails it's worth ringing Three, we got through quite quickly when we did this.

    Hii,
    Do you have to pay a separate plan for the SIM? It says £10 for 250MBPS which is a bargain compared to Virgin Media, who provides 100mbps for like £30/month.
    Do you recommend it against Virgin Media? :/ They keep on hitting me with offers and they went down to £25 but I'm not sure if it's worth it when such a thing is available.

    • @broadbandsavvy
      @broadbandsavvy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SIM card is included with the complete package. Whether or not it'll be better than Virgin Media depends on the exact signal where you live, so it's worth trying the 5G Hub in our opinion, because you can always return it within 14 days. Also Virgin's latency will be a bit lower, but this only matters if you're playing competitive, ping-sensitive online games.

    • @DoMoreNew
      @DoMoreNew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@broadbandsavvy Yeah and I mostly play Fortnite and I stay at about 15/20 ping, do you think that'll effect my gameplay very badly? I still get very bad packet loss as I play splitscreen... My property is in a red-spot in their website so I guess I'll get good signals, but it ends up being over an average of £28/month + 12GB SIM, and I could maybe talk to Virgin and manage a deal, but do you think that price's good value?

    • @broadbandsavvy
      @broadbandsavvy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoMoreNew I'm assuming that price is what you're paying with Virgin. It's actually a bit cheaper than we'd expect, Virgin Media is often quite expensive. You'll pay a lot less with the 5G Hub, so it's worth trying in our opinion, especially given Three's customer service is typically better than Virgin Media's. We found that the 5G Hub was pretty good for gaming, but our ping wasn't as low as what you're getting at the moment (typically around 40-50ms).

    • @DoMoreNew

      But then should I get the Volt Fibre Broadband + Phone from Virgin for +£2 a month with a 10gb O2 sim and 3 months' Extras (Disney Plus etc) and 3 Wifi Pods now that it has got Volt in it? I think it's good but I think that things could be cheaper than £30 although it looks like it's a good price

    • @broadbandsavvy
      @broadbandsavvy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DoMoreNew It depends how much you value those bonuses - do you have a specific use for the SIM, would it be enough for your phone's monthly data usage for example? If so, and you value having a 10-20ms or lower ping, it's probably best to stick with Virgin, as long as their customer service has been good for you, as we've heard of a lot of customers having issues with this in the last year or so.

      There are a few different things that could be. The Ethernet port on your device could be faulty, the port on the Hub might be faulty (try the other one if possible), or the cable they sent might be broken. We would recommend experimenting to try and fix the problem (try a different cable if you have one, and try on another computer). Also try to update your Ethernet drivers, and set "Speed & Duplex" value to 1Gbps in your Windows Ethernet settings. If this all fails, try to contact Three - they might be able to help diagnose if the Hub's Ethernet isn't working as it should.
