Considering the move to Three from Virgin, so appreciate you showing the whole process and various speed tests. Thank you. Subscribed for the quality video, too.
I went with Three 5G as no fibre and all copper lines reported bad speeds. For the first year I was getting 300Mb min but averaged around 450Mb with 900 the highest I saw. Now I'm getting 20-50Mpbs. I am looking into it now and there are a few people reporting the exact same thing one year in with speeds etc. I have the older router but nothing has changed my end. They have 100% changed something because when I put in my postcode on the coverage check it no longer allows me to buy a 5G router and only a 4G Mobile router. I will be ringing them in the morning.
I have been using there 5g home for 2 years now, it’s powering 3 gaming pc plus 26 other devices, it’s been spot on, and no major issues, looking forward to getting this new hub
just to update this, this hub is alot better then the Hawaii hub, stronger signal to my ring devices, I no longer need to add a booster, 1 more thing to add the new hub is locked (uk)so if you have ring products, Nintendo switch, sky, or a smart tv you have to call three and they will manually switch something back over, (forgot what they done) but took 1 minute and a reset of the box 👍
Update 32 days since having it, conclusion yes it’s more stable with a total of 17 devices connected no more reseting the device, however I can only achieve 80 to 100 down load and 5 upload, when I had the older hub I was getting 200 to 300 download speed, same location, after 6 days with the three technician his conclusion is that everyone is switching to the three network and more traffic to the 5g tower, coincidence? Maybe, so if you have the old hub and achieving good speed stay with the old hub 😭
I have tried 2 different Zyxel 5G routers - the NR5101 and this 5103E. The 5101 was very bad - diffecult to get a decent 5g signal. Returned it. The speeds of the Zyxtel are far superior to the Huawei. I’d prefer to use the newer Zyxtel modem. Any help / ideas greatly appreciated :-)
Just a guess, but It’s probably a WiFi encryption problem, WPA3 isn’t compatible on a lot of dated devices, even on Google devices I’ve had issues, if you can check to see if it has WPA3-2 mixed mode it might help.

Going to be moving into my first home soon and don’t want to go too dear on internet will be mostly used for gaming any suggestions on what provider to use?
This router isn't a bad choice if you're mostly playing FIFA, Rocket League, and maybe Fortnite, and can get it set up with a wired connection. It's not the best choice for competitive CS or things of that nature. Its ping isn't the lowest but the speeds are great and its price is low. Other than that, BT is good but expensive, Vodafone is cheaper but has a bit worse customer satisfaction, and Hyperoptic is worth looking at if you can get it (mostly available in city centres).
Does it work on 4g too? I was thinking of getting one, I'm in a 4g area but 200 yards up the road is 5g! I was thinking about getting this router rather than the 4g one, as they come on 24 month contracts ,maybe an antenna could help me connect to 5g
While it's understandable to want the latest technology like 5G, installing an antenna to reach a signal 200 yards away might not be the best solution. Here's why: Challenges with reaching 5G 200 yards away: Distance: 200 yards (≈ 180 meters) is a significant distance for a consumer-grade antenna to reliably capture a weak 5G signal. Even high-gain antennas have limitations, and signal strength degrades with distance. Obstacles: Buildings, trees, and other obstacles can further weaken the signal, making it even harder to reach. Legality: Depending on your location, regulations might restrict installing and using antennas that significantly boost signal strength. Alternatives to consider: Check 4G router options: Compare different 4G routers within your budget and desired features. You might find one that offers better performance even without 5G. Shorter-term contracts: Explore options for shorter contracts (e.g., 12 months) with 4G routers. This gives you flexibility to upgrade to 5G later if it becomes available closer to your location. Wait for 5G expansion: The 5G network is constantly expanding. Check with your network provider about their rollout plans in your area. You might not have to wait long for 5G to become available at your location. Before making a decision: Contact your network provider: Discuss your specific situation and ask their advice on the best way to get the best possible internet connection at your location. Understand antenna limitations: Research the technical specifications and limitations of any antenna you consider buying. Ultimately, the best solution depends on your specific needs, budget, and location. Weigh the pros and cons of each option carefully before making a decision.
I don't know why your upload is so slow. I tested my 4G speed with my phone and get nearly 300 down and 25 up with a ping of 22ms.
