Sheila you sounded so defeated at about the 3:17 minute mark "Oh no, you're not going to make it." 😅 This is Indiana Jones, girl! He's _always_ going to make it. Also, I couldn't agree more with Sheila about the lighting, superb. Spielberg's production design in general is always so great. The sets in this film could not of been better, imo. Sheila, I also love the lighting in the bar in Nepal, especially when Indy comes into the bar, but the camera is focused on Marion, and we see Indy's shadow on the wall. Also, when the Gestapo agent, Major Toht, played by Ronald Lacey (actually a British actor), approaches Marion you can see the classic villain lighting with extreme shadows interspaced with light, across his face. A classic, but outstanding way of heightening the emotion! I could go on and on about the lighting, like when we first see Indy's face at the beginning, he whips the guy's hand who pulls the gun and Ford walks into the light with Williams' score emphatically saying dun dun dunnnn! Like saying: 'this is the man!', great intro! At the end, when Marion is tied up with Indy, and Indy tells Marion not to open her eyes, as she's listening, there's a bar of light just across her eyes, the rest of her face in shadow, as he's talking to her. Her blue eyes really stand out there. Obviously there are tons of great examples. I'm so glad you enjoyed this film, Sheila, it's definitely one of my favorites of all time. I wanted to become an archaeologist after seeing it, but I ended up getting a History degree with an Anthropology minor instead, with a specialization in Archaeology, which I absolutely love. Also, love Harrison Ford, definitely one of the best of all time! Looking forward to the next reaction Sheila!
Sorry, but the bullwhip is not a rope. It's braided out of long leather strips (usually a strong leather like kangaroo). When you crack one, the wave traveling down the thong of the whip goes faster and faster until it hits over 700 mph. The crack you hear is literally a sonic boom. You do NOT want this weapon hitting you as it cracks. In the golden age of Hollywood, western stars and characters like Zorro used the whip to swing on objects as well (not recommended in the real world). Truly a great cinematic weapon/tool.
The German Indy fights on the plane is PAT ROACH. HE was in the first 3 Indiana Jones movie's a clockwork Orange, Clash of the titans, Conan the destroyer, Red Sonya, Willow, Robin hood Prince of thieves, never say never again, the return of the musketeers, kull the conqueror. In the next movie TEMPLE OF DOOM he plays the bad guy (mine boss) indy fights in the mine near the end. Pat was in a UK show in the 80s called Auf weidersen per with Timothy spall and Christopher Fairbanks who also starred in some more Hollywood blockbusters.
Re your question at 14:20 : Cairo of the 1980s had grown so much it no longer resembled Cairo of the 1930s, so most of the Egypt scenes were instead filmed in Tunisia (where the writer of "Raiders", George Lucas, had filmed "Star Wars" a couple years before, and so already had contacts there). Indeed, the canyon where Indy nearly destroys the Ark was also a filming location for the 1977 "Star Wars"! So it was filmed in North Africa, but a couple countries over.
Fun one, Shiela! The Indy films are such a romp. I remember seeing this one in the theater when it came out, and the audience screamed and roared and laughed the whole time. It was an experience. Thanks for sharing it. Hope you make it to Indy 3 eventually. That's my fav!

Great reaction. This has always been one of my favorite movies. Travel adventure, love and biblical implications. I would love to see the pyramids also. I know this movie was filmed overseas. 😊👏👏
Fun Facts! The eyes on the idol in the beginning move. The effect didn't look great so it is only visible briefly as Indy approaches it - it watches him. Speaking of things that didn't work, the length of the staff was not a plot point in the original script, it was all about placing the stick in the right hole in the peg board on the floor. They decided this was too confusing so they changed it in post to being about the length of the staff.
That "machete" was actually a much bigger sword called a "scimitar". Indy could likely have beat him with the whip because of its reach advantage but he was too tired.
Well known trivia regarding the scene where Indy shoots the man with sword. There was a long elaborate fight scene scripted but Harrison showed up to set that day with, ahem, intestinal issues and suggested just shooting him to shorten the filming day.
George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, Stephen Spielberg, John Williams and Harrison Ford. How can you go wrong? The greatest adventure film of all time, and one of the greatest in general. However...I do have a suggestion: I'd like you to consider experimenting with another form of lighting. Todays cameras, (and phones) are well equipped to handle low-light situations. Please consider experimenting with some form of "soft lighting". Perhaps one or two well-placed lamps, that would highlight light the areas of your home (or yourself) that you wish to be seen. Maybe a few strategically placed candles. Also, it may be worth having a quick look at some of the other channels; just to get some ideas of how lighting can affect the look of your show.
