When you comment that the camera work is very Western, you have to keep in mind that Sergio Leone virtually revived Western movies with his filming style - no one had did anything similar before. So he sort of set a new standard for the entire genre.
My sister was named Sheila and she loved watching any and all Clint Eastwood movies, possible. While kids, she played Blondie and I was Tuco. I miss her.
One of the most iconic scenes in movie history = Three men staring each other down for almost 5 minutes. It's right up there with the closing of a door at the end of The Godfather. They can't seem to be able to do this stuff anymore.
Cinema today is laying in a deep coma. Hoping it will one day come to life and flourish again. In the mean time, we have almost 150 years of great cinematic art to unfold and rediscover. I'd say we're pretty well off even now
@@michelm306 Unfortunately, I have to agree. The funny thing is though, and I still wonder if it was deliberate or not, but Marvel's 'End Game' really seemed to me to be the actual end game, not only for Marvel but for everything else as well. Movies and TV shows for the most part seem to have went totally off the cliff after that movie IMHO.
This is a sub genre of the Western called the "Spagheti Western". Westerns directed by Italian directors and filmed in Italy, among other places. This movie was filmed mostly in Spain. Twenty dollars in say 1863 (the movie takes place during the American Civil War) equals around $2,000 today according to inflation calculators.
Nice reaction Sheila! If you want to see more Clint Eastwood in westerns, then the other two movies in this trilogy are a good place to start! He also directed and starred in quite a few westerns through the 1970's. His screen presence is always amazing. As you say, he's too cool for school! 😆 Fun fact; It's not officialy stated, but You can think of The Good Bad & Ugly as a prequel to a Fist Full of Dollars (The first film in the trilogy) followed by a Few Dollars More (2nd movie). Near the end of TGBU he picks up a Poncho from the dying soldier just before the cemetry scene, this Poncho he is already wearing in the other two movies and they also take place after the civil war. All three movies are excellent and have iconic music by Enio Morricone. A Fist Full Of Dollars was made on a very low budget, but it's still great.
Clint’s “man with no name” character introduced the concept of the antihero. Up to then the good guys and the bad guys were obvious in westerns. Clint’s portrayal gave the “good guys” more shades of gray. Tuco absolutely almost steals the movie from Clint and Lee Van Cleef was incredible as “The bad”.
It was filmed in Spain. But the movie is set in the American Civil War during the 1862 New Mexico Campaign. FYI: $200,000 in 1862 would be the equivalent of $6.2 million in 2024. For that amount of money, I wouldn't have trusted Tuco or Angel Eyes either. 😂🤣
This was awesome! Glad you liked the movie. This definitely placed Eastwood as one of the ultimate bad asses of the 20th century. I believe this movie was originally an Italian movie as you could see some of the characters lips moving out of sync from the dubbed voices speaking English. After the dollars trilogy, Eastwood would turned down another great Western in the late 60s but the role was given to another iconic actor in Charles Bronson. Eastwood would once again have a classic role as the ultimate bad ass going into the 70s. He'd traded his hat and boots for a 44 magnum and a badge. But thats something for another day...😃
Great reaction as always Sheila! I must say, over time Tuco has become my favorite as well, although Clint may be the coolest man to ever live, and as you stated, he was born to play a Western character.
As has been mentioned in the comments, there are 2 more movies that were part of this Spaghetti Western trilogy. "A Fist Full Of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More". I also 'HIGHLY' recommend watching "One Upon A Time In The West" by this same director, Sergio Leone. It stars Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson. it is regarded as one of Sergio's best westerns.
The great Ennio Morricone composed the music, he worked on a lot Leone's films. A Fist Full of Dynamite is another great western of his that is less known. The gangster film Once Upon a Time in America is another masterpiece, it has a star studded cast. However it has a couple of very controversial scenes and there were different cuts of the film because of it's length. It is deffo worth checking out though.
Great reaction. This is my all time favorite western. Tuco tracking blondie down by his cigar was Off The Chain; he knew how close he was by the heat of the cigar or lack of it. Big Ups and Respect.
If you ever want to check out another western with Eastwood I suggest the movie "High Plains Drifter", it's not the usual type of western when you realize what is really going on and I think it may be Eastwood's first debut movie directing.
Tons of great westerns to choose from, personally I like the older black & white westerns from the 40's & 50's. John Wayne will always be the king of the cowboys.
the Good wasn't saving people that were about to be hung. he is basically swindling the towns with criminals like the ugly. this is my favorite western film i also love other two films of the ''Dollars Trilogy''. the best thing about this film is the music and soundtracks they are so beautiful. ennio morricone did a fantastic job with the soundtracks. i still listen to the ecstasy of gold soundtrack. i would like to recommend a movie for you ''The Intouchables (2011)''. it's a french comedy/drama. you will have a great time watching this. one of the best comedy movies i have ever watched. also it is based on a true story.
Tuco's character was so dishonest and deadly he couldn't be trusted at any price and the "Good" knew this and that's why he had to play that last scene out from a distance so he wouldn't get shot in the back. Out of the 3 characters, Tuco was the best one who actually had a character arc, though it was very small.
My sister refused to see Clint as the really bad guy in all of this. Yes, he was named the Good. But he was anything but the good guy. Clint killed the 3 bounty hunters who had surrounded Tuco in the desert. She thought he was great, no matter what.
If you are into these Clint films check out "for a few dollars more" and a very underrated Clint film is "high plains drifter". New to the channel but I like your reactions so far. Very pretty too to boot.
Lee Van Cleef is the man and the legend. He could make a bad movie good. Legendary old school bad@ss In this case he didn't have to try too hard. It's one of the best westerns ever. This movie belongs to Tuco though. I enjoy your reaction style a lot. Keep up the good work. I'll be back.
Many disagree, obviously. I do think the version with additional scenes added--you can tell because the main actors dubbed in their lines when they were older--is unnecessarily long.
One of the Best Westerns of all time.
Along with Tombstone & Dances With Wolves.
Tuco is such a great character.

The gun store scene , the actor playing Tuko told the director he didn't know anything about guns. The director said " Just pretend ".
“Roll it up! Roll it up! I’ll give you a good idea where you can put it!”

Leone is famous for the closeup shot juxtaposed with a wide angle. The scene in the graveyard is the most famous example.

For a Few Dollars More is thought by some to be even better.
It's indeed a good film, but not near as good as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
@@Vinterfrid Plenty would disagree with you. El Indio to many is a great role and Lee Van Cleef's role is better.
Clint didnt like cigars but deliberately smoked them in scenes to make him wince and look meaner.
