The Mad Stuntman is an alias of Mark Quashie. Mark was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. When he was 9 years old, he moved to New York in the USA, together with his mom. In the year 1994 Mark had a massive worldwide hit, together with producer Erick Morillo under the project name “Reel 2 Real”. Their track “I Like To Move It” made it into the Top 10 of charts all around the world. And even now, more than 25 years after the original release, the track is still being used in commercials, TV shows and movies. Who doesn't know the version that you can see in the movie "Madagascar"?
These days Mark is still touring as The Mad Stuntman, performing the hits from Reel 2 Real, but also his solo tracks. I recently sat down with Mark, to ask him about the story behind “I Like To Move It”, his future plans and more.
    Enjoy and thanks for watching!

muzikxpress I heard it first on MTV, I thought the video was weird but I liked the song.
It was also interesting to see the video again after 10+ years, with then knowing who Erick Morillo was and how he looked like, to spot him in the video dancing to the song.

This was a track I will never forget. I was 8 years old, the year 1994, I was listening to various different CDs and I come across a Dance Massive CD, put it on, pressed play, track One.
All other CDs previous seemed to be the same, but now it was like I found the holy grail of music. The sounds on this CD blew me away, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Never stopped listening to this day.

indeed . but what suprise me is that. el general was never a global succes like real to reel. . while el general makes amazing music. i only found out because of my hispanic background . so many latin music never breaks fully through . shakira yes she did but than a alll her songs had to be in english. que pena.. never the less this song is amazing but i still prefer el gene !!!

Mark "The Mad Stuntman" Quashie is such an incredible performer. I remember seeing a recording of one of the 90's live broadcasted performances and he was so impeccable in the delivery of every word that I'd never guess how intense their schedule was. Most people would keel over from having that many shows, but he killed it.

  • @uncledub
    @uncledub 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

In retrospect this song was part of a quite interesting trend in the house sound of New York. Bobby Konders and a few others started by fusing uptempo reggae dancehall with the harder new york garage sound and it’s then typical distorted organ-led tracks.
The music nerd side of me had to say that while the other side of me is going to always say that I love this song. No matter how overplayed it is.

I don't have a travel budget for my vlogs and because of the whole COVID-19 situation I can't even record new interviews in The Netherlands (where I live). Also once this is over I don't expect events anytime soon, which means we won't get foreign DJs to visit The Netherlands. So for now I can only make plans for future interviews with Dutch producers / artists. I really hope all is changing soon.... (Oh and Skype interviews or so are no option for me, I don't like those, face 2 face interviews are way more personal and get better results). Sorry for the long answer, but I wanted to explain a thing or 2 haha

He did all the music for Real 2 Reel, they had quite a few other hits, Mad Stuntman just did the rapping and toasting.

Funny really - I absolutely hated this song when it came out - but now I’m good with it especially since it’s dedicated to women )) but Mr Stuntman, total respect ✊ really cool dude.

He knew El General?? Wow! Why didn't he collaborate with him, like he did occasionally with Proyecto Uno and Magic Juan? (former rapper of Proyecto Uno)
Also, I thought The Mad Stuntman was only active in the 90s/early 00s. But I found out that he also released some music in the 2010s.
And Eric was one of the people who shouted "MOVE IT!!"? Again, my mind was blown.

That was yesterday. And it “doesn’t look like it”, it has been confirmed that he died yesterday at the age of 49...

I don't know if The Mad Stuntman knows about this, but I just found out that Erick Morillo died shortly after this interview.

@@muzikxpress I thought he was another victim of COVID-19, since this made me think of another house (latin house) legend who died of COVID-19, Danny "Holiday" Vargas. (I don't know if you know about him.)
