Under Capitalism, one has the right to have a niche aspirational audience. I didn't wear much of their clothing but it was definitely aspirational and iconic and I never hate on good looking white people..... I'll be honest, I rarely see white guys represented in ads on national brands and I rarely see white guys working in retail malls in the NYC metro area. I don't see any good looking people represented in the ads of national brands much anymore. I notice a lot of smaller aspirational startups though that still have white men and women (together) in their ads.
Wow! This video triggered so many things for me. I worked at three different ANF stores in Dallas and LA from 2000 to 2002ish. It was definitely a trip working there. It was fun! They let us crank the music up as loud as we wanted to. Famous people were always coming in the store to shop. We would always go out in groups and party afterwards at the local bars. It definitely felt like a cult though. I was a manager there and during group interviews for potential brand reps we had to check off on a clipboard the people that were “attractive” and those were the people that got hired. I remember the CEO at the time came to our store for a visit. We were all seated as he talked about the company. He asked if anyone has a question. I raised my hand and asked him, “Why don’t we use the color black in any of the clothes?” My friend and co-worker gasped and chuckled that I had the audacity to ask him that. The CEO then said that the color black was “too urban” of a look for the brand. I was like, “Oh no he did not just say that.” I was a fan of the campaigns though. The catalogues were such a big thing at the time. I still have all these old ginormous Abercrombie store posters rolled up in one of my closets and all the catalogs. Haha! Remember the two twins that were on the cover of the ANF bags in like 2001? I had a huge poster of them and I ended up meeting them later on in life because they were regular customers at a Blockbuster Video I worked at. So I gave them the poster! They were so stoked to have it. They gave it to their mom.
- I definitely miss some of the finer things the brand used to offer before they totally watered down their image. The marketing materials and bags were so luxurious that they held up against designer brands in comparison. I hope this whole "woke" culture era will calm down someday and remember that branding is just branding and if you don't like it , you can spend your money elsewhere. Maybe A&F will do a revival some day and be a fun brand again like it used to be. Thanks for sharing your memories ♡
I could not agree with you more about HCo. and A&F resembling an H&M more these days than not. Please stick to the classic style and remind everyone there what used to set the standards and the brand apart. I love branding in general, I wish someone who knew what they were doing over there would make things aspirational again. I wish I could share my ideas with them but they're too busy putting giant sized and unattractive people in their marketing (who would never shop there to begin with EVER) to listen to what I have to say.
If you notice that our culture isn't setting open standards for others to follow and is validated the resentment and grievances of those who hate on happy successful people. Just look at our politics. Look at our leaders. I'm not sure where this is heading but I hope people can start discussing "vibe" instead of just physical looks, but our vibe is way more influential on others than just appearance.

I started working there when I was 16 I was actually recruited at my high school after a football game .it sounds so glamorous being a model but basically you just stood in front of the store and folded stacks of clothes and told people they could not buy The clothing that was on the forms because they were sold out on the table that was pretty much it and sometimes pervy people would try to touch you so that was kind of weird and then I got a job that paid more lol
Me Too!!! They just opened a new store in Las Vegas and I went a few days ago and it's just not the same level of excitement as you would feel going into any of their old "Flagship Stores" like 5th Avenue NYC or any of their old mall stores really. Thanks for watching! ❤
I’ve tried applying for my local Hollister 13 times for BR, but they would hire people from my interview group, despite having experience at topshop and topman, one manager said “I didn’t score high enough”. I would ask a BR in store and they would say “just keep applying it takes a while”.
Phillip Jeffrey I remember in 2010 I went to the Paris flagship store opening and it was just incredible so Ivy preppy vibe, the only A&F store in the UK is the London one which is so disappointing wish they opened an A&F in my city and pray they would hire me first time 🤷🏻♀️ The amount of comments I get on my outfits which are majority A&F and Hollister people assume I work for the brand, but I miss the old style, I’m legit finding old style pieces and bringing back the original A&F look. My local Hollister moved out of the iconic Beach house and moved across the bridge to a bigger space. It definitely won’t have the same affect when I walked in the beach house Hollister vibe with the smell of the iconic perfume at 13 years old and instantly falling in love with the store.
@@NoorAlmuzaffar My best advice to land the job there is to 1) Keep Applying - They legally are obligated to re-interview you if you re-apply. 2) Show up to the group interview decked out in your favorite Hollister look of the season. 3) Try and keep you hair, makeup, nail polish, and overall aesthetic to a MINIMUM and try and look as natural as possible. 4) Fake it - I hate to admit this but the manager will not be evaluating you based on your actual responses to their questions during the group interview. They don't care if you lie, so play a character. They care if you seem outgoing, confident, friendly, and outspoken. They will give you poor marks if you are shy, or quiet. Imagine the American stereotype of the "Popular Cheerleader" .... That's they types of girls they are looking for. I hope this isn't offensive as I'm sure you're a lovely young lady - I just know how picky they are and exactly what they will look for. Good Luck - Please let me know how it goes! ❤
Phillip Jeffrey the first time I applied back in 2017 the old Hollister manager before he was asked to leave would apparently hire people based on their looks and when he interviewed me he said “ you are currently dressed in recent Hollister items, you’re super natural and you have the Hollister look”. I didn’t get hired but each time time I would apply I would change how I approached each answer and they would specifically ask “how do you define diversity?”. I’m a naturally chatty person and wear the most natural make up, over time I would just seem more disheartened to apply as I would see other people get hired I asked myself is there any point in applying again if they’re going to not hire me for the 14th time, apparently someone said if you apply more than once your name is on a black list and they will automatically not hire you 🤷🏻♀️ But after COVID when everything is 100% Normal again I’ll try Hollister again at the new store. My instagram is basically all Abercrombie and Hollister outfits 😂
I was an MIT/ assistant manager for a Hollister from 2014-15.. I left because money was low ($14-15ish an hour) and I felt I didn’t have any autonomy as a manager. I recently re applied to the same store as a “what the heck sort of thing”.. had a phone interview and it seems things are a little different and they even pay a little more an hour (21$ an hour to start) I might go back. Not sure. But i did like the older clothing style the company had. They’re trying to get gen z kids at hollister and they changed a lot of the clothes but I’ll always like the jeans, flip flops and big block letter graphic tees! Great video! Ps, saw the white hot documentary and I thought while it was well done, it seemed to have some people who just seemed sour about their experience and wanted to lash out

I love that they want to include more people but “if everyone is a star, no one stands out”... the documentary showed that they were more inclusive about hiring more people of color (and many of them were very conventionally attractive) but then it seemed everyone had to be in that sphere... and many of those people weren’t even shopping at the stores. Also... one thing about the gen z kids, they love the 90s style, but many of them probably would’ve hated the culture of the 90s, it wasn’t that inclusive back then!

Just take The Lifestyle - the foods at Home Office very mainstream today as kind of average. I am really sold on The Old Abercrombie - Very Pricate Only Us, very me. Wish That World would become Reality again - I am not onboard with the new A&F at all, We have lost Our So-l as a Brand as everything very mainstream foods eaten at Home Office just everything is. I miss Abercrombie I used to work at the Santa Rosa location at the mall in 2006 to 2007 I was a model did all positions and then I got managers stock room position it was open and I took the job . I made alot of friends went to a bunch of parties and everybody got along we were like family. Good times

It definitely was a badge of honor to be one of the Abercrombie uniformed staff members and walk through the mall with co-workers knowing that we were all "special" and chosen for being awesome. Today's "woke" culture really sucks in my eyes and people need to relax and live and let live. If you don't like something, don't engage in it is my opinion. I miss the old A&F - it was so unique and such a fun experience as an employee and as a customer!

I just got a part time job at Abercrombie kids at my local store. It took me almost 10 years to apply for a regular stock position in my area. I just took it because I needed the extra income I plan on being there for awhile until they decided to move me . I have been following this brand since 2004 I’m in my late 20s and I love there clothes and the stores style and the company itself. Mike Jeffrey was the face of the company in its prime but I am loving the alternative changes the company has made as well as to its sister companies with theoutstanding work they have done to market teens and adults .
I started in an abercrombie kids store also before I was moved around. The atmosphere was the same as any other, but they have smaller shops in general and didn't get as messy - Have fun and I hope you enjoy it! Try and be friendly with your managers, they will decide who gets the most shifts.
First of all, Jeff is still a cutie. Second, I worked impact at the Grove in LA. I used to clock in and leave the store for an hour or 2 then come back. Nobody ever noticed. The managers were hot but obviously not very bright. Oh the 2010s. Nobody cares about hot people anymore 😢

What years were you there? I was there for several years and I am guessing probably similar time or possible a few years after. I was part-time and then a manager. I had good and bad experiences also. I met my husband there. They had to shuffle us around because we were both managers haha so Kid Store, Adult. And HCo. I now shop Abercrombie again and probably it’s 75% of my wardrobe again.
- Hey Leah! What's going on !?! Do you remember having to say that greeting up front? 🤭 I was there during the Mike Jeffries years of the early to late 2000's. I too was shuffled around from the kid's store, to adult to HCo. as well! I actually preferred kid's store because we were done much earlier than our adult store neighbor, the had a lot more standardizing to do at the end of the night. Overall I had a great experience as well. I truly miss the original, and absolutely cannot stand the rebranded A&F. They feature models and sizes that would never shop there in a million years and I find their woke agenda sad, annoying, and a cop-out to pandering to a crowd that doesn't spend their money there. Okay dumb question so I know that store sizes run small but how small are we talking about. I was looking at the guys size charts for shirts/jackets and jeans/shorts and I was wondering if it’s the same size charts many years ago or did they updated?! If they updated the size charts then I was wondering if you know what’s the old one.
- Hi! From my experience, the sizes have generally gone down 1 full size for tops and outerwear. For example, I used to wear a small in Tee and Polo shirts and a medium in Hoodies and Outerwear. Now I wear a medium in most tops and a large in most outerwear. In the old and new sizing, both sets were very fitted. Jeans, shorts, and any bottom wear has also been the same for me, I used to wear smalls but medium fits the same for me now currently. Jeans maybe an exception because they are measured in inches. I hope this helps! ♡

Totally agreed! Everything was high quality and luxury. Their denim jeans used to be 100% premium cotton and now they cheap poly-blend "stretch" material. The brand has so much potential and so many people who loved it and still do today.
Old Abercrombie is the best I don’t buy anything from them it’s so rubbish ever since new CEO took over. Very out of styling and very bad quality. I hope it will go back to its origins. 99 of my clothes is Abercrombie.
- I agree 100% ! The merch they are slinging now is trash! No more quality fabrics, all of their denim and most other garments they call "stretch" , which is a fancy word for garbage poly-blend. Definitely miss the 100% cotton jeans and detailing. The store experience has died with it all.

I really liked the clothes - especially the cargo shorts and cargo pants. The polos and the long sleeve polo shirts were great. Great classic preppy style. Excellent quality. I didn't like the attitude and arrogance of most of the staff in the A & F stores. Age discrimination was rampant. Apparently the CEO was a weirdo !

Mike Jeffrey was the face of the company in its prime but I am loving the alternative changes the company has made as well as to its sister companies with theoutstanding work they have done to market teens and adults .
I started in an abercrombie kids store also before I was moved around. The atmosphere was the same as any other, but they have smaller shops in general and didn't get as messy - Have fun and I hope you enjoy it! Try and be friendly with your managers, they will decide who gets the most shifts.
First of all, Jeff is still a cutie. Second, I worked impact at the Grove in LA. I used to clock in and leave the store for an hour or 2 then come back. Nobody ever noticed. The managers were hot but obviously not very bright. Oh the 2010s. Nobody cares about hot people anymore 😢
- The Grove location was an amazing Flagship Store! Such a shame they closed it down, but al least you got to experience it. Have you seen the A&F Instagram lately? It's an abomination - to your point!
What years were you there? I was there for several years and I am guessing probably similar time or possible a few years after. I was part-time and then a manager. I had good and bad experiences also. I met my husband there. They had to shuffle us around because we were both managers haha so Kid Store, Adult. And HCo. I now shop Abercrombie again and probably it’s 75% of my wardrobe again.

Do you remember having to say that greeting up front? 🤭 I was there during the Mike Jeffries years of the early to late 2000's. I too was shuffled around from the kid's store, to adult to HCo. as well! I actually preferred kid's store because we were done much earlier than our adult store neighbor, the had a lot more standardizing to do at the end of the night. Overall I had a great experience as well. I truly miss the original, and absolutely cannot stand the rebranded A&F. They feature models and sizes that would never shop there in a million years and I find their woke agenda sad, annoying, and a cop-out to pandering to a crowd that doesn't spend their money there. Oh well - maybe someone with enough cash will buy it out and make it Fierce again 😏

- and to remark on your comment about your wardrobe being about 75% Abercrombie, I must confess that mine too has a solid 80% probability of having a moose logo on it somewhere. I still sift through their currently boring offerings and occasionally find something that reminds me of those days. We were the chosen ones and I wear it as a badge of pride.

Okay dumb question so I know that store sizes run small but how small are we talking about.
I was looking at the guys size charts for shirts/jackets and jeans/shorts and I was wondering if it’s the same size charts many years ago or did they updated?!

- Hi! From my experience, the sizes have generally gone down 1 full size for tops and outerwear. For example, I used to wear a small in Tee and Polo shirts and a medium in Hoodies and Outerwear. Now I wear a medium in most tops and a large in most outerwear. In the old and new sizing, both sets were very fitted. Jeans, shorts, and any bottom wear has also been the same for me, I used to wear smalls but medium fits the same for me now currently. Jeans maybe an exception because they are measured in inches. I know exactly what you mean….. I miss parts of the old Ambercrobie too. I think it is evolving in the wrong direction. ….. I would like to see the target market expand as far as age but not style ….. it would like to see it involve into a brand like Jcrew.
Totally agreed! Everything was high quality and luxury. Their denim jeans used to be 100% premium cotton and now they cheap poly-blend "stretch" material. The brand has so much potential and so many people who loved it and still do today.

Old Abercrombie is the best I don’t buy anything from them it’s so rubbish ever since new CEO took over. Very out of styling and very bad quality. I hope it will go back to its origins. 99 of my clothes is Abercrombie.
- I agree 100% ! The merch they are slinging now is trash! No more quality fabrics, all of their denim and most other garments they call "stretch" , which is a fancy word for garbage poly-blend. Definitely miss the 100% cotton jeans and detailing. The store experience has died with it all.
Like VS models but staff don’t have to be that good looking.
@@beth4698 - TOTALLY! You said it exactly 💯 !!! At one point in time they were both "Limited Brands" and under Mike Jeffries and Les Wexner, their visions were very similar.

I love abercrombie I love that it's not for everyone it is for the cool kids n can I say stuck up very neat n luxury I love that other people feel as though they can't wear it good cuz it's really for people with a certain attitude sorry to say not bad just better than others . The ones that have a problem with it are the ones I'm talking bout

@@bodhisattva2348 - thanks for sharing your thoughts! Looks are not everything and really I am just a big dork inside and out. I mentioned feeling validated at a time in my life when I was very young and insecure, a lot has changed with time.

I really liked the clothes - especially the cargo shorts and cargo pants. The polos and the long sleeve polo shirts were great. Great classic preppy style. Excellent quality. I didn't like the attitude and arrogance of most of the staff in the A & F stores. Age discrimination was rampant. Apparently the CEO was a weirdo !
The " new A & F " unfortunately abandoned the classic preppy look.
Totally agree with everything you said! I miss the high quality and premium fabrics they used that don't exist anymore. I was also pushed out from my job because at 30 I was "Starting to get a little old" in their words.
@@phillyblaze777 - It's too bad that another company - with a much better code of conduct and ethics - hasn't picked up where A & F left off - marketing the same high quality classic preppy casual clothes.
As I mentioned previously. I really liked the classic styles and premium quality of the A & F brand.
@@RobertGSwan I know! I think the closest thing you can find in terms of product today would be like a Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers but definitly more on the formal side
