MBUU, THO, MCFT have always been on the fringe for me. THO is a solid company. Never a losing year during its existence. MBUU will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I moved from Germany to Hawaii (Job Relocation), we found a cheap rental a block from Pearl Harbor. Old WWII navy housing. Anyway, I was able to kayak back and forth to work. A 10 minute paddle vs. a 45-1hour heavy traffic drive each way. Kayaking with turtles and spinner dolphins will always be a life long memory. I have pretty much exhausted most of my cash for the year. Maybe next year or if the recession hits hard, I might jump in. I think THO has a longer runway. Thanks for the detailed information! even though the company seems cyclical it has been growing since 1982 (when it was founded), there is no end in sight for their growth as boat sales have been on the rise since the 2008 financial crisis. their balance sheet is extremely good and pe is very low even though it is at somewhat of the top of a growth cycle. looks like investors in this company can outperform the market for the next few years.
@@Value-Investing have you looked at their return on equity, roic etc. They are all quite good. They are the leader in their segment in the world (as they licence some of their things to competitors). It means that even if boat sales contract malibu will take marketshare.

Boats and swimming pools should be looked at like auto companies - once the item is purchased the buyer is out of the market for quite some time. P/BV would be my suggested metric.
I agree but boats and motorcycles are a double edged sword. When interest rates are low people buy them but when times get tough they sell them at great losses reducing the ability of the manufacturers to make profits
I expect a cyclical business. A nice balance sheet and a crisis would be a good moment for a speculation on better times. At them moment, it does not seem like a buy with a margin of safety.

Cash flow models ran on a fairly conservative basis point to a fair value higher than the current stock price. But I know Lynch said to invest in those companies when earnings go from bad to mediocre so I might be all wrong. Still can't help to think it could be a 'Heads I win, tails I don't lose much'-situation, especially if you're willing to average down. Management proved capable at allocating capital. Future demand for boats is gonna be less flimsy than demand for RVs both in demographics and price point. edit: You know what after looking at boating stocks over the last decades i agree there‘s too much risk to sit on dead money for ten years

The numbers on the lawsuit aren’t correct. If they were that would mean $56 million in legal fees for the case which it certainly is not. And just looking at the value of what they are awarding for a boating accident it is clear it means $140k total.

Keep in mind companies can make money with the aftersales and financing parts. The purchase is only a part of the equation
