    Thanks for sharing the info. Using your info as a starting point I built two 18 gallon systems for peppers and lettuce and a 5 gallon system for cucumbers. Everything is growing great as of week

    Great video, thanks for making/posting it. Only request is that a list of the items be added to the description. That'd help anyone wanting to copy/paste text into a shopping list.

    My favorite thing about You Tube. I'll start with deliberate research to get a question answered - 3 hours later I'm watching weirdhair guy from the 'other' history channel say "it's aliens!" every way EXCEPT "It's aliens!"

    I just finished filming the different lights that I use at home and in my classroom and I will be adding a narration that will explain the pros and cons of each light. Most of the supplies can be found at your local hardware store in the underground sprinkler section. You can also google horticultural source and buy everything from them. They are a wholesaler who sells to the public and they have everything.

    Thank you! I used 3" net pots for lettuce and trust me it is large enough. 5" is better suited for large plants like tomatoes and swiss chard. When fully grown swiss chard will have massive stems and roots. They were so big that they actually bent and broke my 3" net cups. I am really enjoying my new rail system for lettuce as i spaced out the grow spots by 8.5" each and this is allowing enough room for massive heads of lettuce. I will be posting videos of this very soon.

    The rear holes are to feed air hose lines through so that they can hook up to the air stones. The tap is only for draining water so that the roots don't get disturbed, the hole for the tap acts just as a holder. You could also drill two small holes and use wire to suspend the drain hose/tap.

    Thanks for the video. I just moved into a nice big duplex but we're the upstairs unit so we don't have any outside space that's not shared. I'm going to think about using your video to design a few indoor garden spots. I'd love fresh access to some veggies

    I have never grown anything without a netpot before and personally, I would not want to submerge too much of my plant into water. In fact, I prefer having most of my roots sitting out of the water and having a reservoir separated from the plants. The method I show in this video works very well and is one of the easiest setups, but I still prefer having one reservoir feeding several plants so that my roots are not sitting in a lot of water.

    Here in america hydroponic kits cost at least $100 for a small starter. A self made can be around $20 if you know where to shop.

    You can use trays with seeds that sprout quickly. Some seeds can take up to 7-14 days to sprout and they will rot if left in too much water. For the longer sprouting seeds I now use coffee filters that I keep wet.

    You can use just a water pump in a separate reservoir that pumps the water to a separate container and drains the water back to the reservoir. The idea hear would be that the roots would be suspended in a lot of air getting which will allow them to get enough oxygen without an air pump.

    • @Ts0usermax
      @Ts0usermax 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in this system the water pump is a complete waste of time, this system you would simply cut the holes, put the pots in, fill the tub to within 3 inches of the pots and then stick the airline on the stones, put the stones in the water, turn on the air pump and then connect the other end of the air line to the pump and watch the bubbles flow, that's it you are done.
      get a 2nd tub and pop the lid with plants on it when you need to empty and clean, put the airstones in.

    So do is a "dripper" water dispersion system the same - or better - than a sprayer - where the water is actually aerated + sprayed on the roots?
    And do the drippers make this a aeroponic unit - or hydroponic??

    Thank you for the great video! Could you tell how much was overall to build one? I found hydroponic things are quite expensive. I was wondering if these containers are BPA and other toxic chemical free containers. I was also wondering if you have developed a method to grow all your veggies organic in them? I am really interested in building one but only if I could grow veggies organic in them.

      Please could you explain to me why a dutch bucket RDWC system is easier to build then a simpler DWC? For a DWC you need a smaller set of tools too - a saw cup for the net pots, a saw and a drill bit for the air line - hack, it doesn't even take a pump and feed system for a DWC. So RDWCs always more complicated to build as it takes so sort of pump for the re-circulation, more tools, grommets, connectors and etc - the lone plus side of RDWC is the easier operation once it is running.

    Hydroponics is a great system but it have some disadvantage, you will need to shop for some "plant food", nutrition and supplements that can be high-priced. Before setting up any hydroponics system, you should check out the advantage of aquaponics system, which could automate 95% of work.
