- This is a basic introduction to Loja, Ecuador. Life in Loja’s native tour guide and Spanish-English translator, Jonathan Poma, provides a brief video tour of this beautiful Spanish colonial city in Ecuador’s southern Andes mountain range. Loja, nestled between Yacuri and Podocarpus national parks, is the last urban stop before entering Peru. Loja is also moving into the future as one of Ecuador’s premiere eco cities with the Villonaco wind farm array, city-wide waste recycling program, bike lanes, and eco taxi programs. Year-round mild weather and close proximity to world-class trails make this a great location for hikers to explore the region’s diverse micro climates ranging from rainforests to arid steppes to deserts. Loja also has fun for the entire family with Ecuador’s oldest amusement park (Jipiro), botanical gardens, museums, nature preserves, and public parks inside the city limits with camping, fishing, boating, horseback riding, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Because of the excellent cost of living and healthcare available, Loja is a retirement destination for many North Americans. I really appreciate your videos on Loja. I have spent time in Cuenca, thinking I would settle there, but I like the smaller feel of Loja. I'm hoping to get there in January. I will be watching this space.

Thanks for the video. I am thinking about different potential locations for me to move to now that I am retired (UK).
Ecuador and Panama are high on my list.
I like what I have heard about Loja so far. The climate sounds good and I like the fact that it looks clean and relatively safe.
Could you tell me if there are any/many tennis clubs in and around Loja???
Hello!
This is Jonathan from Life in Loja, Ecuador. There’s only one tennis club in the Loja area. It’s called “Colinas Tennis Club”
There’s also a tennis court in Vilcabamba (45 minutes from the city of Loja) where I know expats father and practice tennis.
@@lifeinlojaecuador OK thanks Jonathan for that info. I appreciate it.
I'm a bit surprised there isn't more of a tennis scene in Loja really , with it being a major centre.
It's a shame because I really like to play tennis and I would miss it if I lived there.
It's not that I'm particularly good but I just like to play socially.
Anyway, I appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work!
Tennis is not a popular game in Ecuador. The most popular games are soccer, basketball and ecuavolley. Tennis might be more popular in cities like Guayaquil and Quito.
I am thinking of relocating from Cuenca to Loja..How do I go about it please

Does Loja have a private hospital?
It has about 8-10 private clinics and hospitals.
