Loved this vid. DZ just sounds so cool, had a few great lines, plus it was fun seeing both riders flinging so much crap at each other as they strained their way to the top (one a bit more than the other).
I live along the stage route just below the fire station you see in the video. We just had an unusual snow fall for this time of year up on the mountain which made the stage better than the last time three years ago when the temperatures were in the 90s (32+ c) and a bit smoggy. Today was beautifully clear and cool. Cloudy and foggy up on the mountain, but fairly comfortable.
Mark Cavendish won the first two stages of Amgen Tour Of California! First was perfect timing by Etixx and Cav. Second stage win was the Manx Missile breaking away and beating Sagan on the sprint!
I did this climb back in March 3x for a cycling buddy of mine who had terminal cancer. Unfortunately he died just a couple of weeks later. Here's a link...www.strava.com/activities/262685452/segments/6151564430 My PB on the day from the village to the ski lifts was just under 48 min, I was taking it at a steady pace to get the 3x done. I guess that makes me a "reasonable amature". Almost 5000m of climbing for the day was a fitting tribute, and I only endured a fraction of the pain my buddy was going through. There was still snow and ice around at the top so the descent was treacherous and V cold.
Are you guys going to be doing any reviews of the Scott bikes you have been riding? I have been looking at the Solace and would love to hear your thoughts.
I like how Dan Lloyd the Boss Cervélo Test Team Dan the man did the Cavendish followed by a Sagan at the finishing line. Or maybe he taught those finishing moves to them while he was on the Cervelo Test Team?
i can see that Dan is no longer using his Cervelo bike and now into Scott bikes. Matt was on a trek before and now on a ridley or scott. How often do you guys change bikes? or are these sponsored?
I suspect these are sponsored. All of them were suddenly riding Scott since few episodes back. I think the one bike they seem to genuinely love is the Ridley because Simon and Tom both prefer it. I believe the Trek and Scott are sponsored. Of course it is upto them to clarify. And they really should!
Francis Tan Hi Francis. We do need sponsorship and income in order to survive as a channel - travelling about the world and making daily content is quite expensive and can't be covered by adverts alone. However, we are pretty lucky in that we have the opportunity to work with a very large number of brands when it comes to our bikes and other equipment. That gives us the luxury of picking and choosing what we feel is the best, and never having to ride sub-standard stuff. We have deliberately steered clear of ever doing bike reviews, that's for the tech journalists, so we have never been biassed from that point of view. I still occasionally ride my Cervelo but it's getting a little old now, could be time to consign it to my museum (of 3 bikes in a loft!). Dan
+dan loyd this is nice to know. I totally understand the economics side of things. Was just curious about how you guys pick the bikes. Also, i was just gonna suggest that you guys do a review of these bikes but as you mentioned you guys are steering clear of this which is a bit sad. :)
Dan: I know you guys do not do reviews but we really would love if you could. You guys do such an awesome job, are credible and ethically correct. Plus have you ever read tech magazine reviews. They are more like marketing pieces for the bicycle companies. I think that's a huge market for you to tap. I have stopped reading anything else but always follow GCN. cheers and thanks for the amazing content.
Mike Novo Thanks for pointing that out Mike. Bit late for Dan's career as a pro though. Who knows, maybe he would have broken the top 100 of the Tour de France if he'd got it right? ;-)
These "ride through" segments are some of my most favorite episodes...well done.
Dan, glad to see you in my neck of the woods. Hope you had a pleasant visit. 😊
I go up Mt. Baldy RD all the time, it’s best to do it in the cool weather. 😍😊👍🏽
Loved this vid. DZ just sounds so cool, had a few great lines, plus it was fun seeing both riders flinging so much crap at each other as they strained their way to the top (one a bit more than the other).

Come on GCN! Get this baby on Epic Climbs! It deserves the honor. Move it over!
One of my absolute favorite vids. GCN needs more segments featuring DZ!
Looks like a brutal, fun course, appreciate the ride thru. Probably will never do it myself, but fun to watch still
Thought he was referring to Chris Horner when DZ said "This is when Baldy bites"
Michael Gallagher That deserves comment of the week. Very good.
My fave gcn vid for a while. Thanks.
Zabriskies interviews are hilarious. And I just realized he's wearing a dz nuts kit... where do you even get that?
one for the bucket list thanks for the vid - the Dave and Dan show!
Hehehehe i did 8 repeats on that 4.3 mile Mt. Baldy section a couple weeks ago! So gnarly! 17.6 thousand feet of gain over 75 miles 🎊
DZ is great fun to watch. Could be a great asset to the GCN Team!
make Dave a GCN presenter!
Jan Jasiewicz seems like a perfect replacement for neil.
I grew up in Glendora and used to ride up GMR to Mt. Baldy.
Nothing like a little California showcase. :-)
Looks like Dan tossed his bidon at Neal's manhood at 3:27. A bit too much time in the sun Dan?
minidini10 That was awesome thanks for pointing it out!!!!
Notice at 2.27 where they've stopped to have a chat, in front of the sign that says "no stopping at any time"

I love Zabriskie, funny guy!
Awesome that SCOTT Solace 30 bike is the same one I have!
Loving Dee Zed's R5. And his accent......
Did anyone else notice the bottle throw at Dan at 3:28? Lol
Holy shit I miss that event.
Got some snow on Baldy last night.
Are you guys going to be doing any reviews of the Scott bikes you have been riding? I have been looking at the Solace and would love to hear your thoughts.
3:29 ouch that looks like it hurts :P

DZ haha what a hero.. Smokey the bear ftw! :P
Great video well done to all involved
I have a chance to ride the full stage with Gu before the pros next weekend. any tips?
That was fun :) Great video!
"a worthy second placer"....oh, that's got t-shirt options written all over it.
2:36 funny how they are stopped in front of the no stopping any time sign.
Did I see a GCN kit in Zwift the other day?
What is up with the frame rate at HD resolution? 50fps not complaining....
The song is actually by Detboi and not Debt.
"Meet the new Boss... same as the old Boss"
;^D
Hahaha bottle to the nuts @ 3:28. Take that Ne-al (I think)
"We're very respectable amateurs." David Zabriskie, everyone.
DZ is brilliant - the Boss - pah who's that (DL) long-limbed velo-ceraptor now eh LOL
The Boss!!!
You guys shooting in 4K, or is it just high frame rate?
*Video starts*
Wiggins?!?!?
*Lowers glasses*
wait, no... its just the boss
Why is this ride not on The Boss' STRAVA? How we should believe he really ride to the top and not just ride there by car?:)
Look's like we found a new "boss"
Dan you got lucky there DZ was well taking it easy on your ass.

I like how he says 16% as if thats steep. Dan lloyd, you're English how can you say anything less than 25% is steep?
james grainger I can honestly say it felt brutal! Must be getting weak in my old age. Dan
***** Obviously you live in Holland
***** Just as flat
***** I bet you're a weak climber
***** I don't I'm busy riding my bike up steep hills
Do you guys know if Dave Zabriskie is still vegan?
I've never seen a pro wear full-fingered Mechanix before, especially on the road.
DZ Nuts!
Memories of my sub 26. Sigh.
MORE DZ!!
Dave Z is turning out to be quite the respectable amateur presenter. For more Zed content, click here. To subscribe to GCN... Deez Nuts!
Dan is the boss
what Scott is Dan riding in the vid?
Scott Solace 105
It's a 2015 SCOTT Solace 30.
How does Dan stay so white?
Ernie Perez natural talent.
too bad M Zabriskies i dont found in strava
DL's saddle seems way to high.
Mike Novo Thanks for pointing that out Mike. Bit late for Dan's career as a pro though. Who knows, maybe he would have broken the top 100 of the Tour de France if he'd got it right? ;-)
lol. I figured it was a loaner...
I can hardly bear to watch all this riding in the sunshine when it's so shite here in the UK. And there's a Tory government. :-/
321bytor Take a few days off and go to Spain. Join one of the clubs there.
DZ, to me anyway, seems like a way less irritating, American version of Tommy V.
Replace Neyal with this guy plzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Lol
first
Yoyo CardTricks You're the new boss.
