"One of the most naturally inquisitive people ever" is the perfect description of Tom Scott as I've come to know him through his videos. I know there are probably other aspects to him that aren't as prominent in the videos, but that curiosity about the world can't be faked.
If you're a fan of Tom's and here today, then you're in luck, because we're giving you a sneak peak of Tom's BTS for a day! Feel free to share with friends :)
All this time I thought that Tom Scott just had someone (friend, significant other, whoever) holding the camera, and although the videos were always interesting and of very good quality, I just figured there must be a shoestring budget. Now I can see that there is an entire crew behind this production, including camera operators, sound techs, and likely writers too. It's kind of cool to see behind the scenes like this!
That's usually how it is for Tom. He said in the video that this is really out of the ordinary for him. The crew and things for this one was provided by Field day.
Hello Tom! Hello Field Day! Question: Why is this video unlisted? Are you waiting for a Thursday at 2pm to come along for the optimal exposure? Or did you get a copyright notice and you won't give them the satisfaction? Or have you and Tom entered into a vicious legal battle over the percentage cut of revenues each party of the first part in perpetuity is hereafter entitled to ergo pursuant of the subsection of the statute ad nauseum en infinitum? Or as Occam's razor would have us believe, did you just miss-click and haven't noticed yet? :D
+roninpawn First of all, Hello. Secondly, thank heavens we aren't in a legal battle! Thirdly, we released 3 Field Day videos today, and we wanted to make sure the BTS videos reached our subscribers, so we'll push them live throughout the week! But, we didn't want Tom's audience to have to wait!
They've often had Tom as a guest on Computerphile explaining things like computer viruses or just what Unicode is. His rant on programming time zones is hilarious even if you know nothing about computers. It's at th-cam.com/video/-5wpm-gesOY/w-d-xo.html
+wiipronhi We've only been live for 6 months! Plus, due to the fact that we feature a different creator and a completely different video, but it's so exciting to connect with people and have them discover new TH-camrs!
We know who Tom Scott is, I was hoping this "Behind Field Day" video would give more information about *you*. As far as I can tell, you're people with a budget. What does working with youtubers do for you, except drag their fans to your subscribe button?
I think they do a "behind Field Day" for each creator they feature. I thought they were actually sponsored by TH-cam themselves, but they've also featured a Vine star, so probably not. TRiG.

California City is in California, but Kansas City (at least the bigger and older one) isn't in Kansas. It isn't that obvious Tom. But why the heck is there a Kansas City in Missouri anyway?
I noticed in the office of the mayor "In God we trust". Provocative and many will argue unconstitutional but also empirically untrue in respect of California City. If a failed city is what one gets for "trusting God" what can one expect with no trust and how does one tell the difference?
***** "In God we trust" as part of the motto only dates from 1956 and was inserted (read altered) from pressure from the religious right. By rights the "In God we trust" has no business being there. It is a violation of church/state separation. It's like saying there's nothing wrong with teaching creationism because it is the official policy of several US states. You can not use encumbrance as an argument. What does "trusting in God" have to do with town planning"? If the success of town planning is magnificent then all the bod bodies will proclaim "proof of God". Similarly then California City must be dismal evidence of his impotence. You can't have one without the other.
***** 1. You do not know and can not know it is the truth. It does not matter that most American believe in a god. Irrelevant. 2. It is CLEARLY supposed to appeal to Christian values. It means the CHRISTIAN god. How about changing it to "In Allah we trust" or "In Zeus we trust". The purpose of the "In God we trust" is to normalise the concept of a "Christian" nation. Creationists insist that creationism be taught, partly because of the "In God we trust" argument to make use of this artificially normalised status of a "Christian" nation. In fact creationism and its clone intelligent design have no place in an educational system.

+Nillie Meeting with and working with him really sealed that. He is genuine and interesting and fascinating and fascinated in the world.
***** The greatest actors often actually feel a lot of the emotions they portray.

I don't know any person named "friends". I won't be able to share it.
:D

Actually, he **does** have someone (Matt Gray, his friend) holding the camera, most of the time, super small budget.
This video is an exception.
Finally, the secret behind the shirt is revealed!
I've wondered for so long!
+TheBluMeeny He talked about it later on Park Bench. I know about it there first though.
I want to know the secret behind his hair
Remington Bradley
No one knows
Remington Bradley ugh, don’t we all
I LOVE watching Tom Scott's videos! And I, too, had that ever-tightening feeling when he was sitting near the cliff edge.
What I learned in this video: Tom's shticks: Pirates, Emoji, and THAT shade of Red ;)

Sir- I am humbled at the resources you have poured into this video. Looks sweet. TY
I finally know why +Tom Scott wears the red shirt!
My house is immediately behind Tom at 2:08.
+cjallen2 Cool!
He's so adorable
2:50 At last, the ANSWER to all my questions.
Nice, he seems great!
Correct me if I'm wrong, isnt that an inspire 1? (See controller at 1:36)
Well I had sort of wondered about the origins of the shirt and its colour. Somehow it didn't surprise me, it's Tom after all
You know the story of his hoody?
TRiG (Ireland) He used to have a grey hoody which he burned in a video, sounds a bit weird but you should know the context.
Watch the Park Bench then....
F for the hoodie
1:03 I have been to that cliff!!!!

How does this channel have so little subs? I mean they have a large team behind them and less than 150k....

This is a very late comment, but the channel seemed to have been funded by TH-cam and produced by 1stAveMachine.
In another 100 years it will be 1.1 million people

Why is it empirically untrue? How do you know whether the people of California City trust in God or not?
California City.... hahahaha..... been there! Becareful of the Mohave Greens (rattlesnake)... and the deadly scorpions.
This guy looks so... Hapsburgian.
Interesting association of ideas.
How so?
