You know the bit in blockbusters where there's a timer on a bomb or something and the hero spends half the timer confessing his love to the romantic lead rather than disarming the bomb and it makes you, the viewer, really pissed off? That's exactly how I felt while they were discussing the rules while the timer was on.
Finally, after several years of looking, I found a bar billiards table for sale ... living in Australia didn't help at all. My Friday night darts sessions with a few old codgers like myself has just evolved, no one other than myself had ever heard of bar billiards but now they love the game.
Damn! we don't have this in the US. I'm sure it would be a big hit, especially in NYC. Maybe someone should start a trend as a tryout in some parts of the Bronx where pub culture is still very big.
Back when I was alive in the 1990s at least four of the pubs I used regularly had bar billiards. It's great fun and good pub game, it takes up much less space than pool. If you're not sure what pubs, (or indeed fun), were ask your parents.

All my life I've been aware that this game once existed and I have heard it described lots of times but it is nothing like I imagined and I now feel slightly cheated that this wasn't still popular in the late 80s when I started going to pubs. It looks awesome.
Tom Scott obviously has a certain type of charisma that makes his videos interesting, whereas if most people were presenting exactly the same thing it would be really boring. Lucky for him.

ahh! my grandfather in Hungary used to have a small table version of this we always played when I was younger, glad to see it's an actual thing, as I was never too sure people beyond the town knew about it :)

I used to pot the final 200 by coming off the side and top cushion by the 30 hole. Try practicing it while the bar is still up. Once you've cracked it, it's impressive (and easier than off the side alone).

What an interesting and unusual game... Rounding to the nearest quarter, that's $1.25 at the present exchange rate (1 GBP = $1.23 USD)... Not sure what to think of that price, though it kind of brings to mind those cheapy arcades like back when I was a kid.
LexieAssassin pub games like pool and quiz machines are usually 50p or £1, they're not something you spend all night on its more like you have a game or two with your drink.

Although you didn't get the rules wrong, games between people who can play are very different. Balls don't gather down the table at all. Both balls are potted from break, the break is repeated 3 times, then you have to do a 1 up shot leaving one on the table. Then pot both again and then back to the break shot.
I always get amused seeing the games artificially inflating the scores by having the lowest score of 10 and have all possible increments divisible by 10.
So... if you're supposed to stop the balls from going in the 30-point holes, why didn't they just make the little foldey-downey thing cover those holes up like it did the 10 and 20 point holes?
Really interesting game, wouldn't mind if it had a comeback and went international. But what came to me, while watching: How is it, that we always need 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 points (or in other games 100, 200, 500, 1000, etc.) when it would make no difference to have 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 instead? When you present a game to someone, the reaction will be better for 50, 100, etc. then 1, 2, etc. although the game would be absolutely the same.
This was fun to watch! Fun idea to make a video about, too. In the end game, is it still possible to pot the ball in the 2 holes that are worth 100 points or are they blocked by those stick-things?

If you look carefully the columns are actually labeled on the score board (10, 100, 1000) so they simply followed what was written there.

it's just how they did the points system. Lets change it to 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 20,000, etc. I like more zeros.
