    I was sooooo obsess with Gregg Jefferies in 1989 … I was chasing all of his 88-89 RC cards… this was when baseball cards were the most important thing in my life!! Great memories!

      Your not alone my friend, I remember cutting grass all weekend to get enough money to buy packs of 89 Topps in hopes of getting the topps Jefferies card, A shame about him, There is a bunch of guys that dude get mentioned on here, Todd Zeile? Hos 1990 cards were so expensive, I how bout Danny Tartabull? Kevin Mitchell? I can name a 100 more, Wally Joyner, Walt Weiss, Dwight Smith, Tom Nevers, He did mention most of the biggest card busts bur come on, mosr people haven't ever heard of Mark Prior, and to pick on Oscar Tavares when he died after he made it to tne Major League after 6 long years in minors? Pretty shitty in my opinion, He could have used Ruben Sierra or Will Clark rookie cards, The 87 Fleer Will Clark was worth $40 and people said that he was the next Mickey Mantle, that guy couldn't tue Mantles shoes

    Back in '92, my 14 year old brother bought a factory gold set for $450 from a card shop. When we got home, #793 was not in there! We called the shop and the scumbag dealer said they were random inserts...it was obvious the set had been opened by them and resealed. We wrote a letter to Topps, and they not only sent the #793, but actually sent another ENTIRE factory sealed set!!!!

    I'm in my 40's.There are 3 huge flops.Kevin Mass was huge after his amazing first half of his 1st season..Wally Joyner in 86 was another.Joyner even got voted to start the Allstar game that year..But NOTHING tops Gregg Jefferies.Former 2 time minor league mvp.When his rookie came out its was booked at $5.00 which was huge back in 88 considering most packs were still under a buck..

    I'm glad you mentioned the Brian Taylor card. i remember going to my card dealer to pick up my 91 factory set and he got one of the Topps Gold Sets with that Brian Taylor Autograph included he was asking for $400 for that 1991 Topps Gold Factory Set. I did not think it would ever hold that value, so even though I could have bought the set I did not. Instead I used that money to finish off my 1970 Topps Baseball set, looks like I made a good decision.

    What a great video of this. The Kevin Maas still haunts me as for me I was desperately looking form my new favorite NY player with Mattingly starting to fade and Jeter not being there yet. For some reason Judge gives me that Maas trepidation.

    • @SilverJackify
      @SilverJackify  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video. Just a note about Todd Van Popel, though, in case you forgot. Van Popel was the consensus #1 pick in 1990 but said he would play college ball if the Braves chose him at number 1. He, also, was demanding a major league contract which drove off many other teams. That is why he dropped to #14 to the powerhouse Oakland A's. The Braves, of course, settled for a young hard hitting high school prospect named Chipper Jones and the rest - as they say - is history.

    i haven't paid attention to card collecting since 2000 or so, but over the past few years i have been getting the thrill from buying rack packs and the such off Ebay or amazon just to get the thrill.

    Hey good stuff man... I remember Greg Jeffries when he played AAA for the Buffalo Bisons I went to many of those games. He had a halfway decent career but never lived up to the expectations I guess. It would be cool to see you do this with football cards? Do you remember the Russell Maryland card that everyone wanted. I still have a few of them I would call that a big bust... LOL... Good s*** man

    Good list and fun topic! Certainly some names I remember nostalgicly. As a Cubs fan I will forever curse Dusty Baker for what he did to the arms of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. One card that deserves an honorable mention is the Juan Gonzalez Reverse Negative error RC from Donruss. That card went bonkers for awhile and can be picked up for almost nothing now despite a very good career.

    • @SilverJackify
      @SilverJackify  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually had the Dusty Baker overuse in my notes but decided to skip over it. That Juan Gonzalez card was huge. I'm surprised Juan Gonzalez doesn't get more love. He was a fantastic player.

    Everyone is the next Nolan Ryan. I stood next to Nolan in 1986 (Spring Training). I'm taller, but he still threw harder, his gift. Now I'm a semi-retired physics player who throws hard due to new ways to throw based on physics.
