I will speak a parable since you want to make differences. Do you think that is air you are breathing? Who among you has understanding and can discern !
Conformity of identity that is not at all required by Halacha exists in Orthodox world just as much secular Americanism sought conformity of identity as well. The issue is how one balances allegiances to varying identities in a modern world? For some no balance is necessary or sought (ultra-secular & ultra-orthodox [charedi]) but for most there is and will be. What “modern” Orthodox communities are figuring out in “real time” is how to preserve the Jewish Tradition while acknowledging that we are more accepted and often invited to participate in a larger world outside of the Jewish community. The Reform and Conservative movements thought they were the answer to this question but 1/2 century to a century of experience and data tells us that while Reform/Conservative may “work” for a small minority, overall these movements have not preserved the Jewish Tradition in a robust manner. Thus, how the Jewish Tradition survives in a world of philo-Semitism, and incredible personal autonomy and choice will ultimately derive from Orthodox Jewish communities. The data (pew study, others) is pretty darn clear in this regard.
The main difference is that Chabad follows a dead Rebbe who claimed to be the Mashiach and the rest of the orthodox Jewish world that believes that although the Rebbe was a great chasid and talmid chacham, was not and is not the long awaited Mashiach. and many practices of Chabad especially in 770 eastern parkway border avodah zarah and are similar to the practices of so the called "Jews" for jesus. don't get me wrong Chabad has done many good things for Jews around the world. b ut once you delve into their philosophy and believe, it's a different ball game.
You have become sort of new Christians because, since the passing of the late rabbi which you defined as Melech Ha'mashiah, you believe in resurrection which is a Christian concept. The only difference is that Christians believe in the resurrection of Christ while the Lubavitchers believe in the resurrection of Rabbi Shneerson., and by doing so, you have distanced yourselves from mainstream Judaism.
Wrong, wrong. Wrong. Resurrection is 1000 percent a JEWISH "idea". Its more than a belief, it"s a fact of life. It happens often enough, in every generation, as to be part of family's history. Sadly, the Jews that died and came alive again, had another death event. What we are looking forward to, as part of the promise and process of Geulah (Moshiach's era) is the end of death/mortality and a universal resurrection of ALL past generations.
I am MUCH older than you and it has NEVER been a mindset in MY family or anyone I have ever known that to be an American means you are LESS Jewish. That is absolutely not true. In fact, it is a compete falsehood and untruth. My family has ALWAYS been observant. In fact, many Jews, collectively, are MUCH more observant in America than those in Israel today. (Tel Aviv is FAR from full of observant Jews.)
I think that he degree of observance in America varies greatly by region, one survey for example found that overall, only 1 in six observe he laws of kashrut, intermarriage is rife. Say what you want about Tel Aviv but at least intermarriage is low and they do live in Israel!
@@richardmoss5934 It's a discussion about the 'observance factor' of the laws of kashruth. Not all 'observant' Jews, (like the Chassidim) understand the dietary laws well enough to eat by them on their own and depend on the verification of "hechsherd" foods in order to tell them HOW to follow these rather simplistic laws. For the more EDUCATED and usually fundamental Jews (as opposed to traditional Jews) - especially ones living outside of Israel and the USA, this is not an issue. So, there is a difference between Jews that eat ONLY hechsher food verses Jews that keep kosher and follow the laws and commandments pertaining to dietary habits. Let's put that into perspective as best we can: Approximately 17% of American SECULAR Jews (that's NON-religious/non observant) say they STILL keep kosher at home. That's actually quite a bit considering they don't actually study Torah or attend synagogue and shul to any extent. Nearly all Orthodox Jews (95%) report keeping kosher. Orthodox is a rather large category as the determination between fundamental Judaism and traditional Judaism isn't made. I am (for example) fundamental orthodox - but some rely solely on traditions instead of Torah Law. This is quite common in Israel. Additionally, many Jews that fall into the grey area of Conservative and Reconstructionist Jews, and a smaller number of Reform Jews, also observe Kashruth. So, while many may say that they 'don't keep strict kosher' what they actually mean is that they don't always purchase hechsherd foods if unavailable, but they still follow the biblical mandates of which foods they can and cannot eat along with the biblical instructions on the preparation of those foods. This is rather murky, but when added up it means that very close to 99% of OBSERVANT Jews (not contingent upon their level of observance) actually keep 'Biblically Kosher'! That's actually quite impressive! It is difficult to say how many Jews that intermarry actually keep their faith and raise their children accordingly. There are no clear cut statistics on this. We DO know that it is MORE LIKELY that Jewish females tend to raise their children within the Jewish faith, but many men today do as well. So, it seems that it may be evenly split 50:50. Marrying within ANY faith is not a clear cut indication of their religious status. There are MANY non-observant Jews that mary other non-observant Jews as well - and fail to "keep the faith", attend synagogue regularly, attend high holy days or read and study Torah. In my personal travels to Israel I was somewhat alarmed to discover how few Jews actually studied and understood Torah. Querying those outside of the more reverent communities I found few that ever read Torah in its entirety, much less understood its meaning. Speaking with many 'observant' Jews too was disappointing when I compared my results to American Jews. Many 'observant' Jews were exceptionally 'traditional' in their observance - but failed to have a 'fundamental' observance of Torah Law or an understanding thereof. In short, it's a mixed bag. But, to say that ALL AMERICAN JEWS are less observant, or as stated here, "less Jewish" is unfair and completely incorrect. Simply stating stats of who follow the laws of kashruth without determining specifically WHAT that may - or may NOT mean would be presumptive in the least.
@@Jubal.Harshaw Precisely, but you totally ignore the intermarriage factor and the fact that many in the galut do not attend Hebrew schools as compared to those who see the sanctity of Eretz Israel and actually live there.
