As I look back over the last eighteen years, when I picked up my horn after a forty year lay off - I had the good fortune to have worked - played and recorded with some wonderful Cats. Mort Weiss
Terence Love 'Steamers Jazz Cafe' on Commonwealth just a tad west of Harbor Blvd in Fullerton Ca, I spent many an evening in this tasty Jazz supper club... (Jerome Kern & Johnny Mercer) "I'm Old Fashioned" 'Such a beautiful rendering of this American songbook gold nugget' by these Supertalented passionate Cats as Mort Weiss reflects...
Not intending to take anything away from any of these talented cats, but what Ron Eschete does here all the way through is pure creative genius of the highest order.
this is so drenched with warm and sweet ideas... completely mesmerizing and seductive... love hearing the sax under the clarinet lead..... such a great sound... a stage full o' musical monsters! wowza!
I met Ron Eschete at the old Yoshi's in Oakland Ca in about 1992 while he was on tour with the late great Gene Harris. He mentioned he was born in the South but has lived in Southern California for decades. His combination of tasteful modern harmony with in my opinion the greatest "swing" of any living guitarist is inspiring.
Ron is constructively polite and wonderful on guitar, don't you think? I love the tender tenor saxophone mellifluity of Sam Most. Mort Weiss is a wonderful clarinetist, and an unselfish leader of collaborative and cooperative efficiency and effectiveness. Thanks guys, for making my day worth the living!
Actually I did. I come from a family woodwind cats, the Wilder Brothers. I know how hard that instrument is to play with an identity and you've done that well. I enjoyed it very much. Great feel and thanks for the post from jazzermw70!
Robert,Sam was 75 years of age that night in a battle with prostate cancer. (you didn't know.) eventually succumbing (died) to it not to long after this date. Sam Most. RIP t

Eschete's solo is just amazing. And his comping is wonderful too. Fine playing by all,.
Ron Eschete is just brilliant on this. His last chordal chorus is so clever and creative...kudos! A true master. Oh...and the group ain't bad, either.

You guys awesome!!! Only one person in this whole world can play that chord melody with that smooth and nice line, the person is Ron Eschete!.
Nice clarinet lead into the first chorus--carefully chosen 8th notes hold my attention--and that slow vibrato breathes life into the notes.
Thank you Docter,

RON ESCHETÉ steals the show! Wait 'til you hear his comping and the chords under his solo.

Good grief.. Ron must have had an Ed Bickert infusion before the gig... those rootless chords and voicings sound so much like Ed.
