How to Catch Speckled Trout Using DOA Shrimp and Popping Cork + Surprise BIG Overslot Redfish

- In this video, I explain how to use a DOA Shrimp under a popping cork. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest ways to catch fish when the water temps warm up and the fish are very active. Once you are able to locate the fish, it's quite possible to get days where you land 50+ fish. Hope you enjoy this video! Great video, and content...looks like another fun day. I use Four Horseman Popping corks (out of Louisiana), they pop SO loud, they are weighted and great to cast a far distance. Looking forward to the next video

Good video & great tips. I've been using DOA & Cajun Thunder combos for several years fishin' down in southern Florida. Move up to Georgetown SC near Winyah Bay and have found that using your favorite loop knot on the DOA or other shrimp imitation lure helps it look & act more natural and will score you more bites than tying your flouro leader directly to it. Keep up the good work & tight lines.
Yes that certainly helps with the look know. During the fall when the fish are smacking everything in sight, I don't even bother with the look knot. During the slower months with warmer warmer temps, I'll tie the loop knot on.

Great choice in Octoberfest! Spring fishing should be on fire again if the milder temps hold up this winter.

Haha. As summer approached, it gets harder and harder to catch multiple redfish in the artificials. Therefore, I throw the cork to get them from time to time. I’ll have some corks tomorrow if I get out with my parents.
Nice video! Me and my pop's used to troll for the trout . Used the red heads and a sack full of different color soft baits. We would have a different color on our rods. Now I like to use the popping corks. My wife wants to get live bait and stay in one spot. She's old school. Meh
Yes, I have trolled for trout too with grubs. Works well for me in late summer and early fall. If we made a couple of passes and caught fish each time, we would anchor up.
Cool but DOA'S have only been around for 20+ years lol. Yeah the beaded corks make more noise, prob produce a few more fish but you can use a reg popping cork as well. Those Cajun corks aren't cheap

Thanks man! I tried to get as specific as possible on how to use these baits. It’s super easy once you find the fish. If this video I am using an older G Loomis GL2 and an older Shimano Stradic 3000 reel. It’s perfect for throwing a popping cork.

Live on mosquito lagoon and indian river lagoon...even after all these fish kills and algae...they work.

Hey, thanks Tripp. Yes, I caught them a few days ago. I haven’t seen any shrimp in the creeks big enough for bait yet. I would say they will be back there by mid May/early June.

Hey Kevin another great video to watch you catching some nice fish. Question- do you think the cork poping draws the fish to the bait? Why i ask- is that there are cheaper poping corks but they don't have the brass beads on them and don't make as much noise. Thank, Lucky Larry

Sorry for the late reply. Your comment must’ve slipped past my view. The popping corks with the brass beads on them are the best ones to use. They attract the fish by the clicking noise they make. Although, if you are using live bait on a float, you don’t really need the beads.

Have you tried the VuDu Shrimp under a cork? They have a more realistic drop and look under water, though your spankin em with that D.O.A. Just Curious
Yes I’ve used those as well under the cork but mainly only use them without a cork when I’m covering ground and trying to find the bite by jigging it off the bottom.

That an older style Shimano Stradic 3000 reel with a G Loomis popping rod.

Yes, the only difference between a 2500 and a 3000 is the spool on the 3000 I'd bigger and can hold more line.
How deep of water are you fishing in ?
That day it was between 3-5 feet deep.
