It's a Christmas novelty-song, it makes us laugh and it reminds us of the bad and the good that come with Christmastime. But if it get's you in a good mood, than you know bloody damn well it's done it's job! Merry Christmas, to one and all!
The music video really sells it that even though your family is nuts and gets on your nerves you still love them in the end because hey, they're your family.
I listen to this song every year and think about my family Christmas get togethers. My fathers parents split and both remarried, my mothers mother had thirteen sisters and six brothers. Her house looked like the Griswold house on steroids for the last two weeks of December. Sixteen bickering aunts and uncles, tons of kids screaming and shouting, a few pets that couldnt be left at home but damnwell cant stand each other. It was a madhouse and drove us all nuts but we did it because it was tradition. And I am here to tell you, remember these years. Remember when your third aunt burned the hell out of her casserole but everyone had to pretend to stomach it. Remember the youngest cousin accidentally falling and crushing someone elses gift taking presents to people. Remember your granddad going back fifty years to tell a half-remembered Christmas story of his childhood. They havent felt normal in the last several and I dont mean Covid, I have a lot less Aunts and Uncles and no grandfathers left. The kids are all grown and starting families and live too far away to attend. I know these may make you wanna pull your hair out now, but when everyones dead, gone or unavailable, you'll miss it. I miss it. I miss them.
Foughtwolf; Your post made me flashback to my childhood, where we would all gather at grandmas. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because, we always did it that way. People came in shifts. It was so crowded you had to plan your movements. There was a kids table, and you knew you arrived when you got into the dinning room. Card table with all the booze on it. The kids trying to sneak a swig now and then. All fish on Eve, and pasta and roast beef on the day. Those were the best Christmas’ of my life. Most are gone. We really don’t appreciate those times fully until they are past. Thank you for your post.
Great sentiment. Every year as I get older I notice less and less people around at Christmas compared to my childhood. I'm only 28 but time creeps on all of us. I did not grow up Irish Catholic (non-religious Italian, here), but when Christmas time comes around and the melancholy of family dysfunction comes creepin' up, this song somehow makes it more manageable. Thank you, Dropkick Murphys, and Happy Holidays! 🎄⭐️ ❤️ 🇮🇪 🇮🇹 🇺🇸
As a life-long Mass. resident, and having lived in Boston for a few years, I've met all the archetypes here, and I can say these folks certainly *look* authentic Boston Irish. The step-dancing girls are just adorable. Grandpa getting a hug and kiss at the end - they have to be family.
I grew up in an Irish-Canadian family, and while our Christmases weren't quite *this* wild, they were close. Lots of whiskey, singing, arguing, and laughter. This video brings back the best memories of my childhood. We were savages, but not bad as savages go :-)
My mother is Scottish born and bred. The other half of my family is German. And the Scottish Christmases were, and still are, far better than their German counterparts.
Nah, it's purposefully over the top. The songwriter bitches about his family like everyone does, but just look at the music video. It's clear the DKM's have a deep fondness and love for their families too.
The Pogues would have had a perfect career and "...Fall From Grace.." could have been a perfect album if that horrid little bit of crap had never seen the light of day.

Was recommended this after listening to Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. I think this is another Christmas song I've heard when I was young and enjoyed for the music, but am only realizing now how hilarious the lyrics are. Glad to get another throwback.
That was so very sweet. You folks never cease to bring joy to us all through your music; I hope you and your families have all that joyed dumped back on you in heaps, this Christmas season! Be forever blessed!

Merry Christmas to all the Irish around the world love from Dublin. Stay safe and if this is all going on in the new year. Happy new year and happy paddy’s day hope you get home to see the family soon.
Especially the photograph of Jack Kennedy. It was usually accompanied by the current Pope. I remember when Pope John died, there was a three foot stack of 8 by 6 portraits of Pope Paul in the church atrium. At the end of Mass there was only a couple left. 🤓
A cop, a priest, a picture of Kennedy, and some sort of fighting are required. My little brothers were just like the kids in white polos. They used to loved to pee in the display toilets in Sears.

A traditional Christmas song in this family.
'
Still my favourite Christmas song. I've listened to it every Christmas Day since 2013
Ah, a fellow coinsure of culture.
@@bruisedhelmet8819 At least it's semi - sorta - kinda realistic, no families that look like they fell out of a Hallmark greeting card.
I will be listening to this song every day during December.
Can’t believe it’s been 12 years! Still great like day 1! Merry Christmas 2024!
Nothing kicks off the season like this song
Holy hell this was absolutely perfect.
As a life-long Mass. resident, and having lived in Boston for a few years, I've met all the archetypes here, and I can say these folks certainly *look* authentic Boston Irish.
The step-dancing girls are just adorable. Grandpa getting a hug and kiss at the end - they have to be family.
+Dave Stone Dude...I think I know some of these nut cases! lol
They are from Forbes Dance Academy in Quincy, Mass
Im from ireland and Bostonians are more irish that us haha
Dave Stone they're pretty damn straight up Irish.
dulez
No they aren't. Ireland is the most Irish place there is.
I share this on Facebook every year this song is timeless 👌
Already listened to this song 50 000 times and its still the best Christmas song ever.
@@markusalcudia Must be wonderful when she's screaming at you for something you don't even know what --- priceless!
@@GinoACosta ... and in an Irish family, when Mom screams, you bloody *listen* even if she's got grey hair, and you're 2 feet taller than her :-D
same here brother
Wesołych Świąt! Szczęść Boże!
This deserves its own full length movie ❤😂❤
I love listening to this every year, right up there with Robert Earl Keen's Christmas song. Merry Christmas to you all, may God's light shine on you.
Best Christmas song ever! Merry Christmas everyone in 2021! I'll be playing this every Christmas till I'm in the dirt.
The most brutally honest Christmas carol in human history.
My family's worse than this
Joseph Hunter you should see mine
Fourth year running I'm checking in here. Love seeing the new comments. This is a good one, Stephen.
Nah, it's purposefully over the top. The songwriter bitches about his family like everyone does, but just look at the music video. It's clear the DKM's have a deep fondness and love for their families too.
i prefer this over the weird silence
N I'm back again 8 years later.. have a great Xmas guys. Wishing whoever reads this long lives happiness n prosperity...cheers from thevuk...GAV.
Every year I come back to this and a Fairytale of New York they are my go to songs 🎸🎸🎶🎶💚☘️💚.
Back again 2023 🤣🤣
The Pogues would have had a perfect career and "...Fall From Grace.." could have been a perfect album if that horrid little bit of crap had never seen the light of day.
Beautiful. Having that many people over your house this year will get you in trouble. Merry Christmas and here is to a much better 2021
Merry Christmas!
Fröhliche Weihnachten from germany.
And to you too
Thank you noel to you seasons greetings
well...
This has to be the greatest Christmas song ever written.
True except for X-M@$ by Corey Taylor
It's brilliant, bit still holding Fairytale of New York's beer.
nope merry christmas i dont want to fight tonight by ramones is better
PboyB2010 is right
Every year, I’m here…and this one’s the first without my parents. Put a new lump in my throat and tear in my eye. Love this song more now than ever - Thank you, boys…Merry Christmas to you all. 🤘🏻🍺
I'm so sorry! I lost my dad a couple days before Christmas. I hope you find some happiness in other ways
Merry Christmas mate .
@@kassandramcpherson2839 Plenty of happy to be had, no worries - But thank you for the kindness ❤️
@@MERCURYSUNSET Thank ya kindly, friend ❤️
@@thecoarsegrindpodcast1645 Cheers my friend . I hope you day is well . I have had that lump in the throat for 20 years since Mum passed and Dad for the last 16 . Love and whatever feels like it is missing, finds its way to you in other ways over time . Power on 🙂🙏♥
Just stumbled on this. One of the greatest and accurate depictions of Irish-American life I've ever seen. Keepin it real so to speak.
It’s this time all. Time to share this great song and video. Raises a beer to all! And we all know it’s not too early for this masterpiece!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻
I play this for my hip hop loving family every year... I love their faces
It works well in 2024 as well! LOoks like a hell of a lot of fun making this video. Happy Christmas
God be Blessin' the Dropkick Murphys!!! Christmas to Ya'll!!!
I've never needed this Christmas song more
Greatest secular Christmas song ever composed. Should get major airplay every season.
Its no Fairytale in New York
For anyone reading this, if you’re facing challenges, please remember that it’s okay to not be okay. You don’t have to go through this alone. Keep believing in yourself 💖. You're doing better than you think, and you're going to get through this. Wishing you a Christmas full of warmth, laughter, and the love of family and friends. May the coming year be filled with new beginnings, success, and all the happiness you deserve. Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year! 🎄🎅🌟
Was recommended this after listening to Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. I think this is another Christmas song I've heard when I was young and enjoyed for the music, but am only realizing now how hilarious the lyrics are. Glad to get another throwback.
My father just showed me this on Christmas Eve. Living close to Boston I can say this is accurate. Go Red Sox
That was so very sweet. You folks never cease to bring joy to us all through your music; I hope you and your families have all that joyed dumped back on you in heaps, this Christmas season! Be forever blessed!
As someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas, this is the only actual Christmas song I'll listen to. There's always room for Dropkick Murphys, even if I don't understand the holiday this is meant to celebrate.
I can't get enough of this song. The whole group is having fun. I will always begin Christmas Day with this song. Thanks y'all!
No Christmas playlist is complete without this tune
Only seeing this for the first time just now, f$^*!n brilliant. 'Nollaig shona diabh' from Ireland
It sucks to me that they don't play non-traditional X-mas music on the radio. So many ppl would LOVE this.
@@amberryder7951 I've forwarded the link to multiple contacts to help generate some badly needed Christmas Cheer.
Nollaig Chridheil from your northern brothers!
Still my favorite Christmas song year after year.
Merry Christmas to all the Irish around the world love from Dublin. Stay safe and if this is all going on in the new year. Happy new year and happy paddy’s day hope you get home to see the family soon.
It's November, 10th, and I'm looking forward to binge-watch this untill Christmas🤩
Just hearing this for the first time, I love it! 😄
I was brought up Catholic on the South Shore. This is more true of my childhood Christmas than I would wish to admit. God, I miss'em. 😅
Especially the photograph of Jack Kennedy. It was usually accompanied by the current Pope. I remember when Pope John died, there was a three foot stack of 8 by 6 portraits of Pope Paul in the church atrium. At the end of Mass there was only a couple left. 🤓
A new Christmas classic.
I definitely wasn’t in the Christmas spirit this year until I heard this great song just now. Definitely my favourite Christmas song! ❤️❤️❤️
Mine too with "fairy tales of NY" by the pogues. Merry Christmas !!!
Same with me.
I’m in an Irish Catholic family. Can’t see anything you missed describing it.
Damn Straight!
oh my god you were switched at birth.
A cop, a priest, a picture of Kennedy, and some sort of fighting are required. My little brothers were just like the kids in white polos. They used to loved to pee in the display toilets in Sears.
A True Paddy’s household
@@unndunn1 all trinkets of a Boston Irish Household! It’s a but different in Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, and Tampa but not that different!
Remember when I'd hug you in front of others as a 6'4" grown man no matter where we were dad? I'm glad I did, because I can't anymore.
Love you boys from the 923rd logistics unit 2 deployments and you got us through it all
Joseph Felder I didn't know y'all are still deploying... it's been since the end of '08 since my last deployment. hope you're all well!!! they really need to keep you home!
