@@45pints87 ya I know that, but in a lot of circumstances it's progress off the back of debt. Constantly chasing bigger while small farms can hold their own just as well.
I have far more interest in this operation than the 200+ cow operations borrowed to the max with loads of staff.A good honest family farm that can still make a good living with no borrowings.
Fantastic to see theise old schools parlours still up an running, and nice to see just a small herd instead of all theise 3 /400 cowherds fantastic to see sir
Low cost system that’s well paid for it’s self, these lads are making money and not up to there eye balls in debt, abit work involved alright, cows look very happy a content. Great job 👏
I was born on a small dairy farm in Lancashire where the pace of life and the relationship with livestock were far simpler than now, subsidies were unheard and fertilizers were a matter of choice whereas now farmers could not exist without large inputs of inorganic fertilizers and the traditional grass sward had been replaced with a monoculture.
Wow this takes me back my first job after leaving school and before college back In 1980 was milking 35 cows in a 4 stall bail parlour on a small family run farm in Sussex Only theirs was one of the old field parlours plonked on the concrete with no step so cows were on same level as me I'm now 40 years later paying the price for that 2 years milking on my under developed spine
It's grand when you don't valve your time there's a certain level of simple setup that's OK this takes to much time granted the cows look excellent condition and are quit use to it but holding cows like that take 75 minutes to milk 30 its bonkers when there plenty of second hand parlours out there for small money that can half that time no bother anyway each to there own
Please build yourself a new milk parlour I built second-hand 8 unit parlour for 20,000 not big money and now i don't have to spend hours in a small parlour anymore i would never go back milking like this again. But you are clearly a very to farm by judging by your calm cows
Delighted to see this farm and family promoted and not another 200+ herd with new parlours and concrete everywhere. Maith sibh
Concrete is a sign of progress

Well said.

I done 250 cows in a 14 stall and it was no slower than a 15 swing over milking the same 250 cows and I found the cows more at eas as well
Fair play to both father and son two honest hard workers doing their best to make a living
The cows look so relaxed and content, pleasure to see
Contentment - cows and farmers. Not everyone has to chase big money to feel fulfilled. All the best to you.

A good set up and a very personal contact with your cows ideal for smaller herds 👍
Now that's a profitable dairy enterprise.
i had the same parlour my self and loved it its really good to see them still in use making money .
It all looks so happy and calm well
done how it should be done🥰💙💜

its a good system when the cows are trained to it, getting a first time heifer to hop up is a challenge
@@denisreidy8106 Of course with the heifers but abit of time and training before they calve ul get there.
There’s a man who calls himself the funky farmer on TH-cam and he milks in a parlour like this
Good man Brian it Good to see young lad and girls, that will keep working on the farms.
Great to see guys just getting the basics right good decent cow's and a very simple low cost system not burying themselves in death like a lot of guys
With buying unnecessary expensive tractors and machinery right?
Thats lovely to see, great system if ifs working for you
Great system..obviously very good farmers..cows so calm and easy to handle.keep up the good work
I milk 50 cows in abreast parlour it takes 1 and a half hours to milk 7500l average. In North Devon. Theres nothing wrong with it
Keep it simple is the best way, great job
Very well behaved cows! Brilliant video 💪🏻 🏴
A simple and cost effective way the cows are looking great and are calm and easy
Handy way of working. No massive overheads and crazy bills. And you can work off farm too. Well done.

Great system beautiful herd champ
With them cows looks a easy calm way of milking them .shiny new parlours a d new number plates on machinery dont mean money in your pocket.
milked 180 cows through an 8 stall one in the 70's/80's it was so great when we moved to a herringbone
Fair play... wish more small to medium farms got shown here more. How hard is it to get heifers to go up onto them steps?
Nice one.
If it's not broke, why fix it
Good auld leitrim bog land, leitrim should be the international emblem of emigration
A use to milk 250 holstiens way brown Swiss in 1 a these great wee setup an could knock the cows out in no time cows were never a bother
Some comments of good to see small herds etc - I agree, but who can make a living out of farming this way these days?

Would think the steps are not good for the legs, twice a day. 14 times a week. There is a risk of injury there. I personally couldn't do that.
