There's hope always.Remember one thing, while there's life there's hope.Every cloud has a silver lining. Please view some videos of Israeli farms and agricultural activities in a hopeless desert turned the dry arid land into a fertile ground.so your farm will make more successful stories in future, don't loose hope. Mixed farming yields wonderful results.

Love this video, i am also a small dairy farmer in Romania and here it's the same, people think that small farmers aren't sustenable, but it's not true. And yes this is the secret.... quality not quantity. Also people should know that the milk comes from our beautiful "girls", not from markets😅

You are a credit to the farming world, your stockmanship deserves an award, love the way you see something which needs attention/repair you get on with it.Always looking ahead to reinvest in the farm, I was involved in farming for 20 years, never owning one, but enjoyed those years the most. That was a small Dairy farm such as yours. I am 64 this month and my wife and I are selling up in the UK and coming to Ireland to live.

Hi Adrian, I went to Ballyhaise once upon a time and I milked cows for thirty years on my farm in Tipperary.
I’m living in Somerset now where my wife hails from but still have the farm.
I’d recommend watching Ryan Blacks videos, I think he’s amazing. He’s not from a farm background but he has the love and vision and a plan to farm in his own right, and he has to be admired for someone so young.

Great video and insight ! You should be seriously proud my man. I worked on a dairy farm as a kid with my uncle. Summer/October holidays and any other chance I got. Always always wanted to work on a farm my uncle always talked me out of it. 4 years as a car mechanic apprentice. 8 years operating heavy plant (which I love) and now 2 years into a complete career change (not loving it) I have a wife and kids and my job now allows me bundles of time at home which I love. God my heart still lies with farming/agriculture though. Your videos help me keep in touch and feel nostalgic and happiness watching. Thankyou

you have a lovely milking parlour & the right mindset about farming, the farmer milking 120 cows with no help has a hard life, its hard to sustain that, the advisory men are never the lads facing the job or the bank.

But sure Adrian says himself he hasn't had a day off from farming in 3 months or more
I couldn't operate like that, outside calving Sundays are just milking as much as possible and will get someone in to milk for evening if possible
And I'm no where near as established as Adrian 🤷‍♂️

    • @denisreidy8106

yes correct he hasnt had a day off in a while but most smaller farms are one man operations without labour, it may not suit you but thats how its done, the advantage is that costs are kept lower and the workload is manageable for one person@@philiptyndall4968

Great advice Adrian, all of it. My father hadn't much but whatever he had he worked damned hard for it, no easy breaks. His motto was "Let your eye be your judge, and your pocket your guide". Avoid debt like the plague and only borrow if you're buying land or for something that's going to make you money or at the very least is going to make your life easier. Sadly he passed away in 1990 at only 67 with prostate cancer. He left lots of good memories. I have now run the beef and sheep farm for 30+ years, got rid of 2 parasitic siblings out of the equation, expanded the farm a few times when land became available. But I will leave you with one word of advice, mind your health. A one man operation can be devastated if you take sick, particularly when the family is small. This almost happened to me last year, but thank God for the HSE and the wee country we live in, they fixed me up like new. I had 3 heart attacks in one day April 1st 2020, luckily I was in hospital when it happened. I was sowing fertiliser the evening before and felt bad and knew something wasn't right. Got into A and E 8pm, at 3am in coronary care I was dead for almost 8 minutes, 7am same again, 12 noon in helicopter heading for Galway, 40 minutes run from Letterkenny. 4 1/2 hours wide awake in theatre while they put in a stack of heart stents. 7pm another heart attack. They resuscitated me and 5 days later got home. Took a month before I got going right again. Avoid stress, keep people out of your life that stress you out, and take time to smell the countryside around you and make a bit of time for the young ones. It can all be taken away in a snap.

Really honest video. I’ve heard it said that a lot of farms are ‘only washing their face’ as in, they barely break even and that the off farm income is what the family lives on. I don’t know if your wife works but most small to medium farms that I know of can only enjoy some comforts such as a nice house, car or holidays because of the wife’s income.

Started out with very little machinery and bad housing but over the last 30 years that has changed through hard work and the odd tear! I have been told that You’ll never last! that farms are getting bigger, you need to do this and that! And truth be told av seen farms going from 50 cattle to 500 cattle in this area and most are not here now. Some of them haven’t even time to eat a ice cream! I have time with my family and the farm. Love working with my cattle, I know every move they make and they know every move I make. Like your self I hope that doesn’t change, because once it’s gone it’s gone for good!

Literally the best video you’ve made yet Adrian in my humble opinion, your always better off doing less better than a lot badly and for sure there’s much more pleasure to be had doing things properly than spreading yourself to thinly, thanks for all your hard work on the vids

I have only just started following you (I know a bit late to the party) but just wanted to say thank you as this is the only video I have found even coming close to this topic. I am potentially in this very situation and any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To keep it short, if farming was politics Adrian, I'd want you straight in as Taoiseach.! God bless and by the way, none deserves better than yourself for that tractor, y'er well suited. Great to here your flying the flag for small dairy farmers, and letting us in on your personal journey, I've said it here before, i am a retired uk dairy farmer now living here in Roscommon some 10yrs, i have also worked, as you did, in my early years on many other dairy farms and i can honestly say your operation is the nicest, cleanest, well set-up unit i have EVER seen, your passion for your stock and also for the cleanliness of your farm is a credit to you, and if there is any young farmer out there watching this and looking to start up they cold do no better than to emulate what your doing.

"Creagh farm".. a young lad from Wexford. Very small basic dairy farming family, 3 at a time in parlour. No greedy factory farming there. He's off to college at min I think. I enjoy his content. Good luck to him.

God bless you and all the Small Farmers for I believe you really do have a future. Big Ag is industrial, less concerned with the welfare of the Land , the livestock and the people who work it for them, even thought they claim to. Small Farmers are at one with the land and always have been to the best of their ability. Thank you for encouraging the younger ones to go forward with their dreams and hopes, they will as you know encounter dissapointment but they will also enjoy a fulfillment like no other.

Land price or rent is the biggest issue to most young Farmers. Having a farm handed down is a massive boost. Never take it for granted
