The bullshit alarm is going off. I'm still as confused as ever. Lots of talk of systemic racism but nobody can say how that system works. If there is a system identify the problems and fix them. What is the system?
So, I agree that Garland's responses were quite vague, and that 5 minutes isn't nearly enough time to answer such an important question, but from what I could tell, "system racism" is never in reference to 'the system.' It suggests that there are specific individual institutions with discriminatory conduct in key aspects. ie.. if an individual holding a particular job exhibits noticeably racist behavior in their capacity as employee of that institution. It doesn't mean their firm or organization is inherently racist, only that their conduct affects the business of the institution in a racist manner. And that why when talking abt institutional or "systemic" racism, Garland reiterates that it's not always abt racial proportions, since these cases are very situational, and that the "patterns" and investigations used to determine the extensiveness of racism in a particular institution differ from case to case. It's like telling someone to solve for "x," and asking them to tell you how they did it, except you don't give them a specific equation. There's no one "system." It's just a term referring to racism that is prevalent in corporations, organizations, or "institutions," rather than racism exhibited by an individual. This makes "fixing the system" effectively meaningless, since the term is only in reference to the many specific scenarios that fit the characteristics of "systemic racism." It's like saying, "If there are unsolved murders, solve them." You have to work on each individual one separately, and the means by which you solve each one differ situationally. I do agree though that the way Garland articulated it in his answers was rather confusing. But to be fair, he and the senator only had 5 minutes collectively.

If our Country is so "systemically racist" why are people literally crossing our borders illegally to GET HERE???????......
My grandfather was a green cloak and Grand wizard of a klu Klux Klan over the Western Virginia Eastern Tennessee Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia chapters and I can tell you right now, racism is not alive today. I remember and I was 7 years old saying a black man hanging from a tree with his balls in his mouth and my grandfather and his buddies sitting back with mason jars of moonshine, making bets on who'd be the first to shoot the rope in two.
That's actually not even close to the worst thing I saw growing up. Racism was so embedded in those mountains, specifically the Appalachian mountains from West Virginia down to Alabama that people commonly use the n-word today here and we are still segregated from Black people. Will you go to school together and still shopping the same grocery stores, but we do not live in the same communities. a place called bluefield has about 50,000 people that live there and around 90% of the people that live there are black. Princeton, lashmeet Spanishburg lake Shawnee and other places around that area are all white people. It's not racist it's just they never stopped being segregated. Southern West Virginia when the areas that I mentioned have some of the lowest crime rates in the United States even though it's some of the highest drug rates of anywhere else in the United states.

@@matthewsmith5374 please do.

@@ScrappyChrisT how the heck did you come to that conclusion? two ppl with the same qualifications but different race (or some other quality) should have the same chances of getting employment if they apply at the same time. it has nothing to do with how many of each type of person applies
Are you going to pack the court, Joe?
Remember that question by trump
Like Trump attempted to do?
No need for it. Supremes court is complacent ya know like the teachers unions
That was a dumb question because prior to that question Mitch McConnell posited that Obama should elect the Supreme Court judge in an election year. Instead he back track when similar situation presented itself just this last year. I guess you were out of the world when that happened innit? That’s just one allusion in several
@@Aries4uu we seen mitch McConnells loyalty to special interest and foreign interest first before citizens. Dude is a political tool like most of the elite democrats

"Implicit bias just means that every human being has biases. That's part of what it means to be a human being. And the point of examining our unconscious bias is to bring our conscious mind up to our unconscious mind" Appointee
I finally did just that and realized I’m actually not a racist! I see what I see and make assumptions based on those multiple observations. those biases are formed for against people no matter what the color of their skin. What a joke. This dude talks in circles and answers none of the questions.
Yes to the first. No to the second.
I'm still waiting for Bill Clinton to tell what the definition of is is.
Nazis started with this baloney pointing fingers at all but saying this group is this trouble coming or is it already here
It's also the first step to the reign of a thought police
This is actual, real world insanity.
Garland’s answers are full of waffle and wokeisms
And to think someone considered this guy to be equal to Justoce Barret. He is pathetic. Wouldn't last 20 minutes arguing a case against her. SHE made the people grilling her look unprepared and stupid. Just the opposite here. This is the best dementia Joe could do? Really?
It's so he can appoint someone to the DC Court of Appeals.
THANK GOD he didn’t become a Supreme Court Justice.
95 % of black people live in Democrat supermajority run cities ; and in some areas in the country , these cites have been run by Democrats for over a century. 99% of your local government is responsible for your daily life . Example : jobs ,laws, regulations, food , shelter , opportunities, tax , cost of living etc... It's not a racism problem , it's a Democrat problem.
Because we ran the fuck away from the Jim crow racist south to the north and Midwest which primarily hold large democratic leaning populace. Where is Merrick’s mask? Or he is exempt?
Oh dear Garland doesn''t seem to know about multivariate analysis.
He doesn't need to know this. He will follow Marxists orders. He is a Democrat.
Of course not. Democrats aren't data driven - unless they use SCIENCE FICTION to claim their lies about everything.
Get Peterson on the horn.
So tired of hearing about racism thats being used for politics. We are not racist tho some people are , most are not. There are so many bi racial families. Maybe blame the culture , education system . don't blame me.
there were biracial slaves so
How can someone argue for systemic racism when he doesn’t even know what systemic racism is.
He explained it perfectly well. See my other comment.
I just looked up Senator Kennedy's background. Vanderbilt, University of VA Law School, Oxford and he received high academic honors at each. On top of that he seems to be a good man, polite, and a strong advocate. We need more people like him. We might have an opening for President in a few years. He would be a cub in age versus Trump and Biden.
Senator Kennedy is WONDERFUL! Always love it when he's questioning someone!!☺😀
I cough when I'm lying too.
Ha ha ha!!
And stutter.
How do you measure a “pattern” without solely basing things on numbers or quotas. How about this for a “pattern” as to why a certain “group” isn’t represented. They don’t apply, and if they do apply their resume is poorly written, lacking in work experience in the field, lacking education, late for the interview, dressed poorly, and gave a horrible interview. Do we look at any of those factors when we want to talk about “patterns” or just quotas based on race and sex?? Everyone needs to start picketing the racist/sexist health care system for not having the quota of straight white male nurses!!! Systemic racism!!!! Like Jordan Peterson says, “Equality of opportunity over equality of outcome.”
Well, we had to have workplace discrimination laws because no people of colored were hired for clearly racist reasons. White people did mot hire black people because they thought they were inferior in the past. Is it not possible, many people today hire you based on race? They now have to obey the law, but maybe the employee of non-white color was better for the job than the white employee. I hate assuming the quota means they only hired you to fill a quota.
Kennedy soo cool😂 looks lame, but when opens mouth Amazing! Brilliant man 🎩 SIR ❤💛💙
Kennedy's questioning was ridiculous and ignorant - like he is. I was embarrassed FOR Kennedy making a jackass of himself. But I remembered the Republicans have no shame in their crimes against the Constitution. I am not a liberal.
The fact that Foghorn Leghorn seemed to have "amazing" questions speaks more about how little you really understood what was going on.
