      I miss my two hamsters! I started out in a crappy & overly expensive pet smart cage but quickly went into a bin cage! I recommend having vet money for checkups set back and to find an exotic hamster savy vet near you as one of my hammys became over weight and developed a tumor and the vet bill was a shock!

      Aubrie guinea pigs keep themselves very clean and also love a clean cage the only time they may have a slight smell is if you own male piggies because on their backs they have oil and sweat glands that is why I only have females you do want to bathe them every 4 months with head and shoulders shampoo that includes cleaning between their toes too this will prevent them getting ringworm which is common in guinea pigs but they must be completely dry after bath or they could get a respiratory infection which will kill them!

    Bunnies are generally very intelligent which means that you need to invest much more time and effort into taking care of them - comparable to cats and dogs. So not the best option for kids or people who dont have a lot of time.

  • @catguy4996
    @catguy4996 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'm more of a cat person all in all, but between these two guinea pigs are much better than rabbits in my opinion. Here's why.
    •Guinea pigs are easier to handle. Unless they're held incorrectly, they won't constantly try to squeeze out of your hands
    •Guinea pigs require less space. A hutch for 2 rabbits would be big enough to house about 4 or 5 guinea pigs.
    •Guinea pigs actually make sounds. Not only is guinea pig squeaking cute, it's also useful because you can tell when they're in distress. I also don't know who these people are that find guinea pig sounds annoying...
    So nothing against rabbits but I just personally wouldn't find them a very enjoyable pet

    • @k.bsworldofpets4574
      @k.bsworldofpets4574  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone has their own preferences when owning either! After owning both I would probs choose rabbits but piggies have a special place in my heart. I find their squeaks incredibly annoying but only when it's nonstop like my one girl likes to do hahaha

    I have a Mini Rex rabbit and he's the best pet I've ever had. He's neutered and was VERY easy to litter train, and so long as I give him a steady supply of sticks to chew on near his eating area he mostly leaves the furniture and woodwork alone. As you can probably gather from this, the little guy roams free, and he behaves like a little puppy -- he follows me wherever I go and sleeps with or on me at night. Wonderfully affectionate creature, sometimes the little guy scratches on my leg to be picked up and held like a baby.
    I've seen people who have referenced high medical bills and I don't know if I got lucky or if it's the breed but over 7 years (and going) the only medical bill I've ever incurred was the neutering. For the litter box, I went to the Container Store and got a plastic desk bin, and I use unscented pine pellets marketed for cats that's dirt cheap, PetSmart sells it $14 for 40 pounds. I modified a metal magazine rack to make an excellent hay dispenser -- fraction of the cost of purpose-built hay dispensers and works much better.
    I had guinea pigs years ago and while they're cute, my experience is that it's possible to bond more with rabbits and have rabbits be more a part of your everyday life. However.....if you are going to keep your pet caged, then guinea pigs might be the better choice because I think rabbits really come into their own when allowed to roam free.

    • @k.bsworldofpets4574
      @k.bsworldofpets4574  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely agree with everything you've said here! In my experience rabbits definitely do have a bigger and bold personality then guinea pigs and it is nice to have a pet that you can be with easily because they are free roamed!

    • @tinetannies4637
      @tinetannies4637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@k.bsworldofpets4574 People coming to this channel probably know otherwise, but my sense is that the general public misunderstands rabbits and thinks they're mostly just cute dumb poop machines. People are constantly surprised when I tell them my rabbit is litter trained, and only a bit less surprised when I explain the psychology of prey creatures and what is possible when connecting with them on that level. Rabbits have a lot of "personality potential" that will be missed if they're treated like cats or dogs, or are tossed in a cage. But treat them gently and with patience and they can almost become like little puppies.

      @Melovemouses 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tinetannies4637Hi there! 🙂 I know you wrote your comment 3 years ago, but you seem incredibly knowledgeable about small prey animals, so I’m really hoping that you can answer a burning question I have…? Do you know whether chinchillas are as capable of affection and cuddles as rabbits and whether it takes way longer to earn the love and trust of a chinchilla than a rabbit?

    • @tinetannies4637
      @tinetannies4637 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Melovemouses Glad to help as much as I can. I am much less familiar with chinchillas than I am with rabbits. My personal and limited experience with chinchillas is that they can be extremely friendly but -- again from my experience with just a few chinchillas so I don't want to universalize -- they don't seem as willing to be held as rabbits. Conversely, while I've often seen people say that holding rabbits on their backs like babies triggers a "playing dead" response and it isn't really good to do this, I've had too many rabbits literally scratching my legs to be picked up and held like this to believe it. Well, let me qualify that. It probably IS true that turning rabbits on their backs DOES trigger that numbing response, and people who grab and flip rabbits might indeed misunderstand what they're doing and freak the poor critters out when they think they're being kind. But my experience is that rabbits can become domesticated to the point where they genuinely being this affectionate and passive, even in the loving arms of a giant predator. But I've never seen this in chinchillas. They're cute, and can be cuddly, but I've not personally experienced them being lovable in the way that rabbits can be. As an aside, the mini rex I originally wrote about is still with me, 10 years old and still without any health issues. I fear he's pushing against his natural biological limits but when he does go, he will have lived a long and awesome life. He's flopped on his side at my feet as I write this.... incredibly affectionate.

    • @tinetannies4637
      @tinetannies4637 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Melovemouses I don't know if you're considering a rabbit vs a chinchilla but I can tell you that rabbits can be fully litter trained and I believe chinchillas can be trained to pee in one spot but will poop everywhere (assuming you let it roam out of a cage). This is because rabbits have sphincter muscles and chinchillas do not.

    Bunnies actually shouldn’t have too much kale and spinach since it’s high in oxalic acid. Most people feed romaine as a base for the meal and add other leafy greens. There’s lists online and you can research certain veggies. :)

  • @Luis-sz7ry
    @Luis-sz7ry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I used to work at a rescue for guinea pigs, cats and bunnies for 3 years and for me personally the pigs had all the personalities, they’re extremely loud which adds to their personalities as bunnies don’t make noise and they just sit there which was my experience. Guinea pigs r also much lighter and is an everyone’s pet, having a rabbit as a kid should not be recommended as they can kick and r heavy. Guinea pigs take up less room, u don’t struggle anywhere near as much with buddying up ur pigs as u do with bunnies, the bunnies at the rescue I was at were very kind tho and were all potty trained but beware the smell is revolting and u can’t not smell it lol. Guineas for me r a much better pet, I would also say as well that due to bunnies not making any noises, kids easily get bored of them

    I have 2 guinea pigs and have had them for a year. I love them! The only smell they have in my opinion is just hay. They are social animals which is great so need at least 2 which I thought was great. I would recommend using a fleece liner for your cage it's much easier for them to run on. I only say this because when I used paper bedding is was harder for them to run faster and cage cleaning was harder. Guinea pigs can be litter trained but will never always use the litter box. I have a litter box they use it mostly but still poop in other places. I'd say 8 square ft should be the minimum cage size for 2 pigs but, bigger is better! I'm currently upgrading their cage for the 3rd time. At first I had a store bought cage for 3 months because we were building their cage. Currently, they are in a 8 square foot kennel but we will be doubling it by the end of the year. They are loud! In the morning right before pellets I'll be in bed and then move my leg and they go crazy! It's hard to earn their trust but it is possible. Great pets! Would recommend!

    Rabbits are soooo easy to free roam! The reason why I don’t free roam guinea pigs is because they’re to small and they could get hurt. Rabbits are bigger and won’t let lost in small spaces but they do chew cords! I have guinea pigs right now but my aunt had a rabbit, sadly it was in a pet store cage and only got like 30 mins of free roam time. I was very young at the time and didn’t know any better...

I know it’s not a smart idea to have them in the same cage for safety reasons. But for both of them companion wise, if they had cages near each other to see and/or interact, but in a safe separate space do you think that would work for them to not be lonely or do they really need one of their own kind?

    My local shelter had a senior bun that was bonded with two guinea pigs. The senior bun's mate had passed away, and the previous owners thought to bond their rabbit with their two guinea pigs. Since they were successfully bonded, the shelter couldn't separate them as this senior bun had already gone through a lot with the passing of his previous mate. Moral of the story is that rabbits and guinea pigs CAN be bonded, but that does NOT mean they should be.

      Definitely, too many risks involved

    • @catguy4996
      @catguy4996 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it's an extremely rare circumstance, because most of the time guinea pigs and rabbits shouldn't live together. Rabbits with their strong back legs, could accidentally injure a guinea pig when moving around fast. Rabbits may also have tendency to "bully" guinea pigs, like how dogs can bully cats as they're bigger and stronger.

    Haiiii
    I am going to get two bunnies soon and my parents and I are looking into habitat’s for them. My parents will not let them be inside and I have tried convincing in loads of ways. So we have come to the conclusion that I have to have them outside, so a hutches are not safe we thought mabey a shed would be good with proper locks so foxes can’t get in and in the winter I will give more bedding a on the summer slightly less, in storms and other “extreme” wether I will bring them inside. I will interact with them as much as possible and will be cleaning it too the standard. So my question is would a shed with a the things above be safe and a good habitat for two rabbits?
    Thx x

      I'd say if you have a shed it needs to be insulated and there should be good ventilation and a good way to keep them cool or warm.

    I had guinea pigs but never a rabbit. Always wanted a rabbit so I could get weird looks walking it on the sidewalk lol. But I had no idea you have to train them. Im a nube I guess but great video! How are rabbits with dogs? My lab didn't mind my guinea pig they cuddled sometimes but, If she sees a wild bunny... Well lets say she's looking at food not friend.

      Typically you do not want to take your pet rabbit outside at this time, this is because of the potential of contracting RHDV, a very contagious and lethal virus. Unless you have the vaccine available the rule of thumb is to keep your rabbit safe indoors without having contact with random rabbits. Dog and rabbits relationship depends on the dogs prey drive. For example my dog has somewhat of a prey drive so I do not allow him to have access to my rabbits

      You can give them the whole belle pepper, you shouldn't give the two of them one full apple but maybe half of that. Sometimes leafy greens can cause an upset tummy so perhaps try to cut back on those and feed belle peppers one day to see his reaction. You could also separate to feed. There is also liquid vitamin c you can give daily directly to them

      Rabbits and guinea pigs should never live together. Rabbits can easily kill guinea pigs, they are not adequate companions for one another and rabbits carry a disease that can kill guinea pigs. You need to get your rabbit a companion and both must be spayed/Neutered. You can get a guinea pig but it should never live with your rabbit and must have another guinea pig companion. I recommend you do more research

      I personally think guiena pigs are easier, but they are not for you if you cant handle the constant noise. They will wheek to basically any sound you make or just from seeing you. Rabbits I think are a little harder, just due to a more leaf green diet and a larger size, but quiet.
