16:13 - Sorry to sound like a bit of a nerd here but my 3 years of doing a degree in aviation pushed me to explain this.
Basically the reason there is still an ash tray in the door of every bathroom on a plane is because people cannot be trusted, so if a person decides they would like to break the law and have a smoke in the bathroom, regardless of the fine, there still needs to be a safe place to dispose of the lighting cigarette because a person’s natural instinct would be to hide what they did wrong and ultimately throw it in the bin where there is tissue and other things that could potentially set on fire (even though there is a fire extinguisher in each bin). So if a fire extinguisher was to go off in the bin the flight would have to land and be refitted as it cannot fly without a fully functional fire extinguisher.
So there you have it. Sorry about the book but love the topic of aviation. 👍🏻

I was thinking it had to be for the rule breakers instead of them trying to get it down the sink or flush it down the loo or as you said causing a fire by throwing it in the bin.
WhatALiberty It’s a simple as that indeed. Even though the toilet is a vacuum and should literally extinguish anything that needs oxygen it can still damage or clog piping. It was one of the most “that makes so much sense” moments throughout my time in college!

Tom, just a suggestion, since you’re on planes a lot I would recommend that you get the AirPods pro they have a noise cancelling feature that I think would be very helpful

Hey TOM! I just came back from cayman, from staying at my uncles. He lives on south sound. Something I would definitely suggest, is going on a jet ski safari. My friend Garry does it, near 7 mile beach it’s the yacht club. Amazing deal and so much to do! Definitely recommend doing stingray city if you’re going to do anything though (the jet ski-safari includes that)

The reason they have the ash trays in plane toilets is so there is a safe place to extinguish a cigarette if someone does smoke. They have them to deter people from using the bins which have flammable tissues/items in them. Helps to prevent a fire on an airplane which is a big big risk (Ex airline crew here) :)
It’s actually so crazy how much life changed since the last time I watched this vlog, and it hit me when he said he didn’t want to go to China/Japan... I looked at the date, feb 3rd 2020 wow Kobe died a few weeks ago and there was this news of a virus going around.... I came back for some nostalgia and happiness, look at the state of the world now man... wow😪I wanna be a kid again...

Not sure if your aware Tom but you can fill out the ESTA application online and it's good for two years and costs $14 US. So when you get to the port of entry you'll just get the 90 day one stapled into your passport

My grandparents are in the caymans currently and they/ I would suggest getting the rum cakes at the airport right before you leave because they are bigger and you don’t have to worry about security.

Hi Tom. The ashtrays on aircrafts are a mandatory item. If someone will fail to obey the rules, you need to have a place to extinguish the cigarette. That’s also why the wastebins are provided with fire extinguishers.
There is an ashtrash so that if someone do smoke they dont throw the last bit in the bin which is a firehazard, so you can out it out in the tray instead.
And you can’t call in an airplane because it interfiers with the flight deck equipment and the frequencies they communicate on.

The ash tray is there in case some on does smoke, they still need somewhere to dispose of it safely as it’s obviously a lit flame

theres two reasons why there's an ash tray in the toilet. its either because the plane is old enough that people did use to smoke on it or that in the event that someone ignores all the warnings, they can still put their cigarette ash somewhere
American Business class is one off the best experiences especially if sitting in the 2 row mini cabin at the front.

The ashtray in the lavatory is there because despite the fact it’s not been allowed for a long time, people still smoke in the bathroom so it’s better at least that there be a safe place to ash a cigarette rather than say a trash can where a fire might happen

We had a few beers in Calico Jacks on 7 mile beach when we docked in George Town on our cruise recently. Cool place, nice vibes but damned 'spensive! Enjoy mate.
Secretly wanted tom to come to Australia as it’s nice and warm here thought he might have been doing some charity stuff here for the fire relief but it’s okay☺️👌🏻
Tom I asked the air hostess about Ash trays last time I was flying. And she said. Smoking is banned obviously, but people still sneak to the toilet for a cigarette. And just for safety when they do it’s better they have somewhere to put the cigarette out rather than throw it on the floor and possibly causing a fire on board

about the no smoke situation,, every plane got that "ashtray" onboard so the passenger can still express (however you say that) their cigarette. because do NEVER throw your cigarette in the trash bin, cause the trash bin is full of toilet paper and other waste.
